Running a slight fever in Health ·
😢

Last week was a mess—Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. Just a low-grade fever, some chest tightness, a bit of a cough. Nothing catastrophic, but I wasn't exactly thriving either. That weird limbo where you aren't quite healthy, but you aren't fully bedridden yet.
Then Tuesday afternoon hits, and suddenly my fever spikes to 102. Flu. Just great.

Take some Bayer Aspirin (the effervescent kind). If the fever climbs, grab some Advil to knock the temperature down and deal with those aching bones.

Good luck.
Hot vs. cold showers: what's your take? in Health ·
Once I work up the nerve 😁 I’ll do it, but strictly on foot. Circulation issues and bad veins make anything else out of the question.
Anyone have experience with acupuncture? in Health ·
A few years back, my mother was struggling with a herniated disc—nerve compression, barely able to walk. We decided to try acupuncture. The practitioner wasn't even sure how much progress we’d see, noting she was quite light at only 110 pounds (I'm not sure if body weight actually impacts acupuncture efficacy or if that's just talk).
Anyway, she went through several sessions with him. No real shift in her condition, though some people claim acupuncture has a delayed effect. Then, she saw a specialist in the office next door for two nerve blocks. After two months of being bedridden and needing constant assistance, she finally stood up on her own feet.

If you ask me, it was the nerve blocks that did the heavy lifting, not the acupuncture... though I can't say for certain.

Tips for quitting smoking! in Health ·
Angela Hill said:I don't really need anything from this thread, I just wanted to share a win. After 15 years of smoking two packs a day, I’ve officially gone over 24 hours without a single cigarette.
And honestly? I feel great. 😎

Bravo 👍
Jeans recommendations? in Fashion ·
Picked up some jeans in Chicago at Bolero. It’s an obscure brand, but the cut is sharp and the price was right: $80.

This is my fifth pair from them. Honestly, they were starting to feel a bit 👍
Sunglasses in Health ·
I have these classic sunglasses where I had the lenses swapped out for prescription ones. They’ve still got that blue tint, which is great. They aren't those photochromic transition lenses; just standard shades. I rely on them mostly when I'm behind the wheel.
I tried the photochromic route once, but it wasn't my thing. It wasn't even about how they worked—it was that gray wash they leave on your face. Honestly? I felt like they made me look old. 🙂 😬

Well, Merry Christmas to everyone.
Starting today, I’m going back to war against Candida... for the nth time now. Stocking up on Canesten, Geonistin suppositories, and boric acid.

Since I’m also on Amoxil for other issues, this current "attack" is likely triggered by the antibiotic—they tend to mess with vaginal pH levels.

Hormonal Contraception: The Pill [General Discussion] in Women's Health ·
Well, after five months of taking Triquillar and preaching its benefits, it turns out this pill might actually be causing me some issues. 😢

Regarding my period, everything is significantly lighter and less painful 👋, which is the one silver lining. After thirteen years, I’m finally not risking an ER visit every single month.
However, a lot has happened over the last few months, and I think I've finally connected the dots back to the medication.

It looks like my hormones are a bit out of whack. I say "looks like" because I have a full check-up scheduled for next week, so I won't know for sure until then.
For starters, this is the second time I've dealt with an incredibly painful subcutaneous cyst. I've been trying to draw it to the surface with antibiotic ointment, then moving to black salve to clear it out entirely. The pain is brutal, especially since this "little ball" is located in a particularly inconvenient spot. 🙄
The first time this happened was two months ago. I assumed it was a one-off. My GP didn't even consider a hormonal link; he just suggested that if it doesn't drain on its own, I should see a surgeon—though even he couldn't promise it wouldn't flare up again. I skipped the surgery and managed to handle it with antibiotics instead. I really hoped that would be the end of it. For the next two months, things seemed fine; the lump had vanished.
Then, out of nowhere, it resurfaced, and here I am, suffering through it again.
When I spoke with a nurse, it turns out she dealt with almost identical issues, which turned out to be caused by prolactin levels. Our symptoms are a mirror image: breast swelling (anyone looking to buy a slightly larger cup size? 😂 I'd gladly trade mine away...), skin deterioration, these horrific subcutaneous breakouts, and so on.

So, once this flare-up passes next week, I'm heading to an endocrinologist to get my hormone levels tested.
Hopefully, it’s nothing serious.

I honestly don't understand why gynecologists don't advise us to get a full hormonal panel alongside standard blood work and liver tests before starting birth control.

Best to everyone. Wish me luck. 😢

Caught it in theaters myself. It was alright, nothing special.

Hair washing tips? in Health ·
I wash my hair every single day. Literally daily. And yet, it stays healthy and looks great. I blow dry it too. I don't crank the heat up too high, but the blow drying is non-negotiable.

I’ve been on Triquilar since May. No side effects to report, other than the good ones—periods are practically painless and much shorter now.

Now, I have a different question for anyone who can weigh in..
Here’s the situation: I’m currently taking Klavocin antibiotics, and according to the instructions, they can decrease the effectiveness of oral contraceptives. It isn't a pressing issue for me right now, seeing as sex isn't really on my radar at the moment 😁 ...but I am wondering: when will my Triquilar be reliable again? Once I finish the course of antibiotics, will everything return to normal, or should I bother using backup contraception for a while afterward?
Thanks 😎
Kenneth Hernandez67 said:So you're saying they're basically twice the price of the standard ones.😕

Standard birth control pills usually run about $17.

Triquilar$12.
37 x 3 months = $37.

😳
Can someone, 😁, please explain something to me.

According to the instructions for Triquilar (and probably most other pills), it’s recommended to take them every day at roughly the same time. Does this apply strictly to a single dose, or when you start a new pack, should you also ensure the timing matches the previous one?

Thanks... 🙂

ninanana said:Look, here’s my experience. I was on Celeste for two years straight, no breaks. Then I switched to Triquilar and stayed on that for another three years without stopping. After all that, everything just went haywire. I ended up dealing with heavy bleeding that lasted twenty days. On top of that, I developed a fibroadenoma—that’s a lump—in my breast with atypical changes. Now that I’ve taken a break from the pill, things have stabilized. I'm not saying pills are bad; they actually made me incredibly happy because my periods are usually a nightmare. I'm just suggesting you should probably take a break every six months or so. Your ovaries need to handle some hormone production on their own once in a while.

That’s exactly what I’m thinking... taking breaks every now and then.
My periods are brutal too, so I'm wondering if it'll actually get easier...
Thanks! 😉

Robert Walker2 said:Look at it this way:

When it comes to birth control, I can tell any woman to stay far away from the pill.

I was on the pill for a year, and the yeast infections were constant. Beyond that, the hormones seemed to wreck my local immune system; I became incredibly sensitive, dealing with bladder infections after sex all the time. Because of those infections, I was constantly on antibiotics, which just tanked my entire system. Eventually, I wasn't just dealing with issues down there—I had yeast infections in my throat too. Not exactly a pleasant experience.

I went through all that, and even when I considered going back on it, I decided against it. A friend of mine took them for ten years, and now she’s facing a suspicious liver tumor. Her doctors claim it’s a classic side effect of long-term pill use. And don't even get me started on breast cancer.

CONDOMS ARE THE ONLY REAL OPTION!!!

Were you on Triquilar or something else?

I've been taking mine for a week now😳 and, for the moment, I haven't had any issues. No water retention, no weight gain. FOR NOW. 😎

Has anyone dealt with water retention from being on the pill? Or maybe some unexpected weight gain?

That's my main concern. 😲 😲

Maybe it is... but whatever. It’s here. 😉
Steven Ruiz, first off, my apologies... I'm still relatively new to this group, so...🙄

Ashley Vaughn, dear... bingo. That’s all I’m saying; you’ll put the pieces together. 😁

Thanks to everyone for the input.
It’s only day three on Triquilar. Woke up this morning feeling absolutely wretched. Stomach cramps and lower back pain. It gave me a bit of a scare since it’s a new sensation. Given that I’ve been dealing with some allergies lately and taking Claritin—though the label doesn't mention any interaction with birth control—I went ahead and called my OB-GYN just to be safe. He told me not to sweat it, said the nausea isn't from the Triquilar, and advised me to stay the course. Usually, my period is painful only on the first day, never the third. Maybe it's just spring and the hormone shifts working in tandem... anyway... the pain hit on day three... 😕
Everything settled down after about half an hour.

Moving forward. 😁 😁
Hey everyone.

Took my first dose yesterday... spent some time scrolling through various forums today... feeling a bit rattled.

Thanks for sharing what you've been through.
Look, I know there have been countless threads about oral contraceptives and birth control pills. But instead of digging through the archives myself... I just need a few quick details.

So, yesterday I officially took my first Triquilar pill. I read the entire novel they call an instruction manual... but I want to know if anyone here actually uses this specific brand. What has your experience been? Any side effects? Or is it smooth sailing?

Basically, this thread is strictly for Triquilar users! :-D

Thanks in advance 🙂
