Alternative medicine: thoughts? in Psychology ·
Kate Diaz said:On the flip side, I think people gravitate toward alternative medicine because they’re desperate for something different. They want those quick fixes wrapped up in flashy slogans—you know, stuff like "we treat the cause, not just the symptoms"—even though there isn't any actual evidence to back those claims up.

It feels to me like, even though you could easily see both sides, you're just flat-out refusing to believe that alternative medicine could offer any kind of relief. I can't tell if you're just doing this to be contrarian, or if it stems from some old-fashioned fear of anything unconventional, but I don't really see the point in me trying to explain this when you're just going to dismiss everything with empty rhetoric.

Kate Diaz said:I’ve honestly never been able to wrap my head around this argument. No matter how much I try to process it, I just can't get behind the logic used by homeopaths and those other folks who claim modern medicine only treats symptoms rather than causes. I mean, if that's true, what exactly does medicine deal with? Someone please enlighten me.

If you get hit with TB bacteria, you treat it with drugs designed to kill that specific bacterium—you address the actual cause. You don't just suppress a fever and chug some cough syrup and call it a day...

Of course.
If you're dealing with tachycardia, you'll just pop some Lexapro or take those little yellow pills. That’s "medicine" for you.

Meanwhile, alternative medicine will try to tell you *why* you have tachycardia in the first place. They'll claim that through their methods, you'll become aware of your emotional voids, your deep-seated issues, or past traumas. According to them, once you resolve those emotional struggles, the tachycardia will simply vanish. That's the pitch, anyway.

Sanja 😳) said:In your opinion, why are people turning more and more toward alternative medical treatments? What are your reasons, assuming you've personally tried any of them?

I guess it's because mainstream medicine tends to just scratch the surface of a problem rather than actually digging into the root cause. Plus, let's face it—people today have way too much downtime on their hands. They don't really know what to do with themselves, so they start looking around for something to fill the void, or maybe they're just looking for ways to spend their time. And of course, there are advertisements everywhere. Advertisements, advertisements, advertisements.
That's basically it... that's why.

I mean, seriously? 🤣

You clearly don't know the first thing about intimacy. 🙄

Think of each chakra as a hub for a specific cluster of emotions, life scenarios, and physical traits... essentially, they govern distinct sectors of a person's existence. For instance, depression is often linked back to the first chakra...
The theory suggests that almost all psychological or physical ailments—and just general life struggles, really—stem from energy flowing through the body being either too sluggish or way too intense. The specific issue or sickness usually manifests in relation to whichever chakra is out of whack. So, you might see issues regarding intimacy, finances, or pleasure tied to the second chakra... then there's self-esteem tied to the third, and so on...
The idea is that you can actually resolve these problems by utilizing specific types of meditation or by directing bioenergy toward a particular chakra to clear the blockage...

i - what’s the actual issue here? (sorry for asking, but I guess I just don't quite follow your question)

What kind of (specifically) alternative psychotherapy are you even talking about here?

okay, brightnomad0: basically, they’re just banning believers from doing it themselves, all under the guise of staying true to their "faith."

it feels like you haven't been around for ages, or maybe I'm just losing track of time.
anyway: welcome back! 😁

The Blair Witch Project in Movies ·
vesnakuša said:Yesterday, while watching Rocky II, I happened to catch The Blair Witch Project. Honestly, I was completely shaken. I don't think any movie has ever terrified me quite like that one did. It’s just three people lost in the woods who eventually stumble upon some house... It was gruesome. There weren't even any aliens, mutants, witches, or ghosts—just them and the darkness. And yet, it was absolutely terrifying.

What are your thoughts on this movie?

I don't think I'll ever forget it. Actually, I felt the exact same way you did. I was scared out of my wits. Now, I guess I still have moments where I can't even bring myself to walk into the woods at night because I'm too freaked out.

Using lines like that just exposes how insecure you really are, and honestly, that supposed modesty doesn't mean a thing 👎 . If you're being modest, it’s clearly just a defense mechanism. And if you aren't, then maybe just be upfront about why you lack any real substance.

Exactly, and I couldn't agree more. I guess sometimes people just convince themselves they're something they aren't—totally certain of their own brilliance and opinions—only to end up looking like complete fools. It’s basically just a total lack of self-esteem masquerading as pure egoism. 🙂
