slydriver52 said:Muscle glycogen definitely gets burned through during anaerobic training. We're talking about the glycogen stored right in the muscles here. If you actually wanted to completely drain those stores, you'd need a very specific diet paired with your workouts, and after maybe 3 or 4 days of that kind of regimen, your reserves should be tapped out. That state is what we call ketosis.

Look, I understand perfectly how glycogen is depleted, but you aren't going to burn off the glycogen from your entire body unless your diet is an absolute disaster and you're training like some sort of mindless maniac... and honestly, I'm just going to stop there, because I really don't have the energy for a full-blown debate.

2. And where on earth did you even get the idea about ketosis from? Seriously, how many athletes or regular gym-goers do you think are actually living in a constant state of ketosis? 😁

Mark Sullivan64 said:I think it doesn't really matter, because those carbs are presumably meant to replenish the muscle glycogen you burned off during your workout.

Honestly, glycogen is probably the least of any lifter's concerns. Those carbs aren't even there for glycogen replenishment—unless you’re, I don't know, a marathon runner training like a maniac every single day, or someone hitting the gym twice a day with insane intensity, or maybe a pro cyclist...

You have to realize that you can't just "empty" your glycogen stores that easily. Not many people actually grasp that. To make things even more ridiculous, glycogen replenishes so fast that this constant obsession with it is actually kind of hilarious. 🙂

Then you head over to the Art Institute of Chicago to find some cable and hang yourself... honestly... 😬

Just train, eat or drink whatever works for you, and call it a day. You don't necessarily need to gorge yourself on 30 grams of glucose or a massive slice of cheesecake right before hitting the sack. 😁

For most lifters—especially the newbies—the issue isn't actually about carbohydrates. It’s something much more ridiculous: a mental roadblock where they start thinking, "Man, I need my whey and some damn glucose from Walmart, but since it's bedtime, I should probably have casein too... what do I do now? If I take casein or something fatty, it'll slow down the whey absorption and catabolism will eat me alive until I look like Lucky from Malnar's crew... 🤣 So, the "logical solution" is to just stay awake for another 3 or 4 hours after training instead of sleeping." 😬

That’s the struggle for most people when they deal with late sessions. It’s pretty sad, really, because people read all this nonsense online and just swallow it whole without questioning anything. Our brains are right there in our heads, just waiting for us to actually use them. 😉

What are your thoughts on Dr. Sears' research regarding the Zone Diet? Specifically, the idea that spiking your glucose intake right after a workout—especially if it’s out of proportion with your proteins and fats—might actually be counterproductive. The theory is that those high insulin levels could end up stalling the release of growth hormone, which we all know is vital for muscle recovery and growth post-training. Just keeping it brief. Thanks 🙂

Look, if you're hitting a carb+protein drink after a session, you're likely to see a rise in growth hormone, and some studies even point to an increase in Somatomedin C (IGF-1) levels
. Essentially, you get a similar effect from consuming carbs alone.

On the flip side, eating carbs right before bed tends to suppress that growth hormone release.

So, to put it simply... carbs after a workout? Fine. Carbs before sleep? Not so much.

Rebecca Jackson86 said:So, I finally picked up a 750g tub of micellar casein from Pro Nutrition. Honestly, was it worth it? I’ve been playing around with different protein sources lately, trying to see what actually sticks, you know? Sometimes you just want something that feels substantial, something that keeps you full without feeling like you swallowed a bag of sand. Has anyone else made the switch to this specific brand, or am I just flying solo on this one? $70 I’ve been wondering about the best way to actually time this stuff and how to take it. Like, what's the ideal window? And more importantly, what should I be avoiding? For instance, with whey protein, most people say you're better off mixing it with water or milk rather than something else, so I'm curious if there's a similar rule of thumb here.

How am I supposed to just stop? It’s not like it’s just a standalone thing. You’ve got it with sugar... you’ve got it sprinkled over bread spread with lard... you end up dusting it over desserts... and so on. 😁

Just drink it, man. Mix it with water or milk—whatever tastes better to you. Honestly, there’s really no debate to be had there.

It says right there. All of these supplements should be taken with water. Simple as that. It’s a pretty straightforward claim, really. It feels like everyone falls into that trap of thinking The Chinese are all exactly the same.".

You can take it whenever you feel like it, really. But honestly, I think the bigger question everyone else keeps asking should actually be directed at you: why are you even drinking it? What’s the end game here?

Matthew Richardson81 said:I don't know, man. After taking eight days off from the gym, I went back today to knock out some squats, military presses, and rows—all on a 5x5 program. Since I hadn't lifted all week, my legs started shaking like crazy right after the squats, and finishing the session was a total struggle. It’s been six hours now, and I can already feel that soreness creeping in. Tomorrow morning is going to be brutal. I'm definitely going to need some serious recovery time after this.
Just a quick tangent, but this whole thing about widening disc spaces is actually a smart move. Here in the States, there's even talk about expanding the standard width of hallways because Americans have put on quite a few pounds over the last few years. I've even heard a couple of stories about people getting stuck in corridors because some huge guy collapsed in the way and blocked the path.

Look, the soreness is coming regardless of whether you take whey or not. 😉

As for Americans, it's a mixed bag... they've even started widening seats in arenas and stadiums to accommodate everyone. Personally, I tend to think Americans aren't significantly larger than people in the rest of the world, but hey... that's just my two cents. 🙂

Casein DOESN'T actually slow down whey. It’s not like we’re talking about a crowded nightclub where some big guy blocks the door just to stop a sprinter from getting inside, 😬

As for recovery... honestly, I think "recovery" is a pretty silly term. It always makes me think of some grueling struggle, but I don't view training as some kind of torture or a massive burden 😛

And let's be real, PWM is way overrated. People go way too overboard with it. You aren't going to wake up with depleted muscles the next day if you skip a heavy dose of PWM, and you certainly aren't going to start catabolizing overnight 😉

PWM is really just there to speed up the muscle "recovery" process, rather than being the thing that actually kicks it off
Why do my eyes swell up after drinking? in Health ·
I mean, if you’re actually struggling with an alcohol problem, you really ought to talk to a doctor 😬

Personally, I suspect it might just be a spring thing—maybe some mild allergies acting up in tandem with the drinking.

Paul Hernandez8 said:Also, I’m sure my weight being over 200 pounds plays a part, but after digging through some running forums today, I realized the biggest culprit might actually be my running form.

Look... the first thing is definitely the weight. Trust me, I know—I’m about 35 pounds heavier than you and I dealt with the exact same issue.😉

Your legs just aren't "conditioned" for this kind of impact yet... though honestly, even pro football players deal with this.

Last year, I finally stopped dealing with the pain after I took a little break. Instead of running, I switched to power walking, and I made sure to walk heel-to-toe (in my shoes, obviously). Give it a shot; you'll feel that tension in your heel muscles and realize why it helps.

Then, naturally, I stopped running entirely, only to start back up again this year... and of course, the same problems popped right back up because:
- I don't stretch nearly enough
- My brain is a bit broken, so I push too hard, too fast 6.2 miles. Since it didn't hurt immediately, I just kept going (apparently my brain pumps out way too much dopamine during exercise, so I can't seem to 😁)

As for running technique... yeah, you're supposed to stay on the balls of your feet, but don't kid yourself—that alone won't fix shin splints. And be careful how you land on your toes; if you overdo it, you'll burn out your calves and end up feeling absolutely wrecked on both shins.😁

So, I'm taking another break. I'm moving to walking... with some really intense running intervals mixed in... and more heel-to-toe walking. 🙄

frozencanyon4 said:What kind of full price are we talking about here? Are you thinking retail or OEM? The pricing varies quite a bit depending on where you look http://store.microsoft.com/microsoft...7/category/102
Personally, I’d be perfectly happy if I could just buy an original product key—you know, something that lets me install and register everything just like I bought a physical box. I’ve already seen plenty of those listed on eBay for around $50http://cgi.ebay.com/Window-7-Ultimat...item33571cc590 👍

I honestly think that would be the best way for anyone wanting genuine software to get a good deal.

Microsoft is pretty shady when it comes to this stuff. They make it seem like you have a choice between getting Windows shipped to you or just downloading it, but if you look closely, the price is exactly the same. Watch out.🙄

It’s just ridiculous.

frozencanyon4 said:Man, I just realized how much the prices differ over there compared to here 🙂 it's actually wild!

But what exactly do you mean by "wild"?

The full price for the Ultimate version is $320, or maybe around $0.52, but even here it sits at about $0.50

Look, obviously I’d prefer a lower price point, but this whole idea of "abnormal" gaps is kind of funny to me... considering how much the government takes and that insane sales tax, I'm honestly surprised it isn't even 🙄

Amy Nguyen86 said:wiredpilot30, so what's your take? 🙂

I’m hardly an expert when it comes to judging vocal range, but she is pleasant enough to listen to. That said, since being "pleasant to the ear" isn't exactly the golden ticket in the music industry anymore—unfortunately—I suspect she'll end up right where she started.

What 🤷

All I'm saying is the poor woman is basically a product of massive hype designed specifically to boost the show's ratings.

Now she's convinced she's a superstar, but once everyone forgets all about Kelly in a year or two, she's going to have a total meltdown or something. She always seemed a bit unstable anyway. 🤷
Kelly Clarkson in Music ·
It’s a beautifully packaged story about the success of some completely average, nobody of an individual.

Personally, I don't think she deserves even half this much hype, given how mediocre—if not outright underwhelming—she actually is.

But anyway, there you have it... So, did you catch that? Apparently, the Apple President thinks Windows 7 is nothing more than "antiquated technology." It’s a bold claim, isn't it? I mean, we all know how much they love to position themselves as the future while looking down on everyone else's toolkit. It makes you wonder if they’re actually serious or if it’s just more of that classic Silicon Valley bravado. Is Windows 7 really that far behind, or is this just Apple being Apple? And there's some truth to that too!

The hype is definitely building up, isn't it? Everyone's getting worked up because they have a feeling Windows 7 is going to smash all the records—and honestly, I think they're right to feel that way.

After dealing with that absolute disaster of a Windows Vista, it’s actually quite refreshing to finally see a decent operating system.

I really wish both Apple and Microsoft would spend a little less energy obsessing over making their OS designs look "candy-coated" and instead put some actual effort into making them simpler to use and easier to configure.

All in all, it’s a surprisingly solid move. Now, I'm just sitting here waiting on .NET 4. 😛

Thanks to the guys, and thanks to the sportsbooks for giving us such a pathetic underdog multiplier on an American win—as if we were some tiny little nation like Albania or something. 😬
