Inland Empire by David Lynch in Movies ·
Look, I honestly think Lynch is a director made specifically for true fans—those people who take pride in actually grasping his vision and want to show they get what he's doing.
The reason I love him is that he crafts these twisted fairy tales for adults. You just know that eventually, some gentle, uplifting music will swell, and there'll be some kind of happy ending... in that classic Lynchian way, of course.

Like I mentioned before, this particular film didn't really do much for me, but I have to say, his choice to shoot with a digital camera felt surprisingly fresh. It didn't bother me at all; if anything, watching those tight close-ups on the faces was pretty engaging.
I don't really agree with the idea that those shots—you know, those long, dark hallways—would have worked better with a "traditional" camera. To me, the digital look adds this extra layer of unease.

Oh, I forgot to mention—it feels like his obsession with transcendental meditation is bleeding right through this movie. A couple of times, I found myself trying to imagine what his actual stream of consciousness looks like while he's meditating.
I guess I ended up getting bored then.

I don't regret watching it, especially since I’d been looking forward to it for months, but honestly, this one felt a bit aimless. That said, Lynch didn't disappoint me. 😕

So, where does Lynch go from here? Are we moving toward full-blown experimental features, or is there some kind of massive pivot coming our way?
I'm dying to see how it all wraps up!

What can I actually say about the film?
If you aren't already a die-hard fan of Lynch's work, I don't think it's worth spending three hours on this.
And once again, we're dealing with themes of the space-time continuum.
I feel like that was more engaging when it was in LH, or even TP, and the whole Hollywood scene vibe actually landed much better for me in MD.
The music is still fantastic, and I still get a kick out of Lynch's weird little habits, like the tongue movements and those specific accents.

I found myself reading so much into everything.
"Oh, this is such an MD moment."
"Ugh, this totally reminds me of TP." —I had so many moments like that.
I even caught myself drifting from thinking about Kafka to wondering about Sleeping Beauty just a few minutes later. 🙄
It almost feels like this movie is a sort of synthesis of Lynch's entire body of work.
Or maybe I've heard that theory somewhere before?

I know I’d love to find a deep-dive study on the 'woman in Lynch's films.'

It falls into that category of his movies that I just don't have the urge to watch again.

I suppose I shouldn't really complain since it actually made its way to theaters
but the screening times for 👎
well, having them at 9 PM this past week seemed like a solid choice
I mean, at least they didn't pull it from the schedule after just one week
Inland Empire by David Lynch in Movies ·
It takes about three hours, and then they just give it once a day at 9:00 PM.
🙄
I mean, I really hope it stays on the schedule for more than a week.

Wonderful, just wonderful
I'm heading to the movie theater

Did I hear that correctly on the radio? Is this actually coming to theaters?

Are vegetarians actually smarter? in Psychology ·
Regarding this—whether they’re actually more intelligent or not, I really don't want to get into an argument about it here.
What I just can't wrap my head around, and honestly, what gets under my skin, is why there seems to be such a constant need to attack vegetarians.
I mean, if nobody is forcing a plant-based diet on you, why does it bother you so much when people just make that choice for themselves?

I think I might actually show up for the PJ, Björk, and Amos listening session 😁

Lately, though... man, I've just been really feeling Amy Winehouse 🙂

You might want to give goat milk a shot since it’s supposedly a bit healthier 🙂
Besides, I've heard that as we get older, we start losing that enzyme needed to break down dairy, so for some reason, goat milk seems a lot easier on the stomach

hm, I guess approaching someone on the street or on the subway isn't always the smartest move. I mean, you might get lucky, but still...
it actually happens to me quite often, where I'll catch someone's eye a couple of times while riding the train, and usually, it’s just pure coincidence—they just happen to be in my line of sight
but honestly, you can tell when someone is sizing you up 😍 if it lasts longer than just a fleeting glance

so, are we talking about 'serious' relationships here or something more superficial? What are you actually looking for? And are you even ready? Like, emotionally mature enough for that?

playing a part is probably the worst thing you can do if you want something real, and the same goes for laying all your secrets bare over a first cup of coffee
that first coffee—or whatever the first meeting is—should really feel more like meeting a new friend, so you can just take things slow

though, that's just how I am, I tend to be pretty slow and methodical 🙄

the real struggle is just finding the right person

I was reading about how one of the forum members is always helping others even at their own expense, and I couldn't help but think how wonderful it would be to fall for a girl who is exactly like that😍

everything feels so rushed these days, even romance; it's like everything has to be instant, but I don't think there's anything better than falling for someone as you truly get to know them

Is that a utopia?
No, not if it's with the right person
then again, you do risk a lot by doing it this way, and you might end up alone

😵

placidwalker53 said:it's a pretty common thing—that whole idea that "the more jerkish you are to women, the more they'll chase you" 👎—which is sad, but I guess it's true

I don't really see it that way; I think what you're describing just applies to insecure people, regardless of whether they're men or women.

well, urbannomad12, what can I say? I suppose the right one will come along eventually. 😁
at least you run into interesting women once in a while, which I think is already a good sign.
but tell me, have you ever noticed one of those quiet, shy, almost invisible girls who looks away the second you catch her eye somewhere nearby? 😍

I think they’re pretty good, and I’m actually really digging their latest single
I haven't picked up the new album just yet, but once I do, maybe you'll find it grows on you more after a few listens? 🙂

Maybe give it a shot at the hospital
Stomach issues - help! in Health ·
A friend of mine is dealing with some excess stomach acid—she actually has that one specific bacterium, though I can't recall the name right now—and she says sticking to things like crackers, white rice, white bread, and iced teas helps her out. She’ll throw in some chard and fish occasionally too, I suppose. 😬
So, since she's avoiding whole grain pasta and whole wheat bread along with a ton of other stuff, I was wondering if anyone else here deals with similar issues? Does anyone know which foods might actually help dial back that acid level?
Ideally, she should probably just see a nutritionist, but honestly, she's been struggling with this for three or four years now, so I'm not sure she'll ever actually make the appointment. 👎

I’d definitely suggest doing a bit of window shopping first, just to get a feel for things, because prices can vary quite a bit from one shop to the next

Well, I suppose anything is possible, really.
To be honest, those Natural Wealth supplements always made me feel a bit nauseous.
I'm sorry to hear Noni isn't working out for you.
Actually, you can find Noni tablets all over the US from several different brands if you're still looking.
Maybe give spirulina or some green algae a shot instead?

I just noticed today that they actually have those bamboo juicers over at Whole Foods. 😁
I guess I feel like they’re just around the corner. $5.00

Feferonka 😬 you're probably going to 🙂 me, but I've heard that metal can actually mess with the flavor of the tea
maybe try using bamboo strainers instead
man, who would have thought people got this worked up over tea!

Sensitive skin tips? in Health ·
Gosh, I totally get how you feel 😘
I deal with some pretty similar issues myself
Just please be careful with those steroid creams; I actually had a bad reaction to using Elocom 🙂 😠
Maybe you could try really deeply nourishing your skin with just a basic moisturizer?
Like, apply a thick layer and let it sit for a bit, or even try wrapping the area in plastic wrap 😬
Calendula always seems to do the trick for me 😍
Some of those Freeman shower gels are soap-free
And the Alverde stuff doesn't have any artificial preservatives, dyes, or fragrances...
I mean, you probably realized by now that just because a cream is expensive doesn't mean it's actually good
Cerave isn't pricey at all, and it works wonders!
You might want to try spraying perfume on your clothes instead of directly onto your skin
I'm really crossing my fingers that you find some relief soon 👍
And make sure you're eating well too, yeah 😁
