Does anyone have a solid list of private music schools in NYC that actually follow a formal curriculum? I’m looking for places where the training is legit enough that you could actually transition into a public conservatory or state school after finishing a year or two. I really want to avoid those hobbyist spots where some college kid is just teaching kids how to play chords for extra cash—I need actual professionals who know their stuff here.
I'm mostly looking at schools on the West Side.
Thanks!
Latido Music School over in the West Side area... highly recommend them.
So, did she actually say the cake was thrown in for free? If that's the case, the cost is already baked into the menu price, meaning they’re still being asked to shell out an extra $45 on top of that.
As for La Torteria... their pastries and cakes are notoriously pricey to begin with. I’m honestly curious how much he’d end up paying for that specific cake—I wouldn't be surprised if it clocked in well over $150.
coastalowl212, come on, it’s a forum after all... We're all entitled to our own perspectives. Even today, when the girls were giving me a hard time in line, I managed to make it through unscathed. What one person experiences one way, someone else will see entirely differently, and that's the whole problem
I might just throw my two cents in here... Honestly, I have my doubts about whether MAGA actually meant everything they wrote to their godmother, but when emotions run high, people tend to say things they don't really mean.
It’s the same for me—I wasn't exactly losing my mind at my mother-in-law this morning, but yesterday? I felt like I could have ripped her head off. So, yeah... sometimes your fingers move a lot faster than your actual thoughts.
So, I showed up to work yesterday, trying to get through my to-do list, when a coworker walks up and just asks me, "So, did you have the baby yet?"... Yeah, well, turns out the kid is right here under my desk
Yesterday, the grandmother of my partner started talking complete nonsense... she's 83, so her thoughts tend to wander all over the place, but suddenly she’s fixated on cat hair. We don't have a cat, nor are we planning on getting one, yet she starts telling us how someone—who knows who—found cat hair in their lungs. Honestly, who cares? It's just bizarre...
So, I told my partner we should head out for a walk through the hills... I mean, why stay stuck here? I can't be expected to sit around in this "rut" forever, especially since I'm actually looking forward to starting a family myself... and so on...
But then everyone leaves, and I can't exactly be the flake who walks out, so I'm stuck sitting there listening to her ramblings. My patience for this kind of thing is pretty much non-existent lately.
Bryan Gomez90 said:Why does this look so familiar? I must have scrolled past your photos or 🤷. The cake is the giveaway. You must be a pro soccer player, 😉
Well, it’s entirely possible you saw the pictures...
As for me and soccer, it's about as likely as a cow performing ballet... my partner is a massive fan of the LA Dodgers, and I’m pretty much right there with him, so we ended up featuring the Dodgers logo right at the top between the bride and groom...
Plus, blue is our favorite color, which explains why we went with this specific cake combo...
For those curious about the flavors, the bottom tier was chocolate raspberry, the middle was cheesecake with mixed berries, and the top was a strawberry yogurt parfait... actually, I might have swapped the middle and top tiers in my head . Oh, and since this is just one angle of the shot, you can't see the two large fondant decorations on the other side—one white and one blue... they were made from sugar paste .
Our desserts were honestly perfect—really delicious—but I guess people were just more preoccupied with the appetizers, the main course, and that lamb dish than they were with the sweets...
Even though, for instance, nearly the entire cake was polished off and everyone had nothing but praise for it.
Look, there isn't much you can actually do about that... I mean, you can't just decide to put desserts on every other table... you have to provide them for every single table, and if people don't end up eating them, that's hardly your fault.
Ladies, please don't go overboard with the cookies... I personally cut back as much as possible (neither my husband nor I actually had any at home, and we didn't pass them around either), yet we still ended up with so many leftovers that we were able to give some to our neighbors and the crew at the office...
At the end of the day, you've got a massive platter sitting there—maybe a couple of pounds worth—so there's really no point in overdoing it. Between all the other food available, those cookies usually end up being the thing people eat the least...
So, I made it to the OBGYN today. Honestly, I almost wiped out hiking near Mount Rainier, but whatever... I'm 36 weeks pregnant, so I guess I still have some mountain left in me.
First off, my sister couldn't even find me among her patients—it was like I didn't exist. Apparently, I had vanished without a trace, and then she realized she’d been entering the wrong name into the system. Typical.
Eventually, I walked into the nurse's station, and naturally, just like every single time, they've wiped all my records. She asks me which week I am, and I say "36." She looks at me and goes, "But you were 36 weeks last time." I just calmly replied, "No, I was 32 weeks last time." Then she tells me, "Before your pregnancy you weighed 135 lbs, now you're 152." I’m just sitting there thinking, "No... those aren't my numbers." Seriously, who is actually crazy here?
She finally tracks down the real Sean Long4. When I ask, "Do I still need to get a shot considering I'm 36 weeks along?" she tells me, "Well, there's a possibility; it really depends on what the doctor says." And I'm just like... are you kidding me? Why on earth would I get poked while trekking toward the hospital? I'm done heading up that way. They can deal with it themselves.
Someone always manages to chime in with, "Oh, it would be just wonderful if you could give birth a little earlier." Like, excuse me? It’s not as if I have some kind of master switch I can just flip to make my little one arrive on command. People are truly something else.
It honestly drives me up the wall when I’m working at the clinic. You get these guys coming in to pick up their lab results, and then the nurse will clearly announce, "Pregnant patients, please head to window three; everyone else, please use window two." Immediately, you’ll have two or three people who suddenly think they’re experts on queue management, stepping right in front of everyone else to cut the line at window three. It's such an unnecessary headache.
It’s the same type of people you see on the subway—those ones who refuse to move an inch even when they see someone struggling with a heavy bag or trying to squeeze through a crowded car. They see you're stuck, they see you can't get past, and yet they won't budge for anything in this world.
It’s just one of those things... While I was lying in the hospital in Chicago, one of my friends had to make a quick run to the restroom. She was there because her baby was having some developmental delays, and honestly, she couldn't even hold it for a second, let alone wait. It’s such a shame, too, because everyone knows she’s smoking in the bathroom, yet absolutely nothing is being done about it 😢
It honestly grates on my nerves how everyone starts acting all sympathetic the second I mention I’m due in a month, especially when they insist my bump looks way too SMALL
Jerry Fisher3 said:My sister-in-law is driving me absolutely insane—and I mean, truly, deeply, irrationally losing my mind here. Honestly, I’m about two seconds away from just throwing a punch just to get some peace and quiet. 🙂
Mine hasn't stopped getting on my nerves either... I don't even know what to say when she's been against me since day one. We just can't stand each other, period.
And the worst part? She acts like such an angel to everyone else, but deep down, she's a total snake...
Yeah, we finally got it sorted out... though I spent the entire day overthinking how to apologize without making it weird...
On another note, there’s this neighbor of mine who has an office right next to mine, and honestly, he’s driving me up the wall. He's just incredibly irritating, and I feel so awkward whenever he's around. He constantly tries to strike up these bizarre, forced conversations with me, and it’s just so grating. It’s one of those situations where you just want to say, "Look, I'm really not in the mood to talk, please just leave me alone."
Jerry Fisher3, look, the thing is, she isn't necessarily a bad person, but she just doesn't know when to stop sometimes... and honestly, I have zero interest in getting into a fight with her. I'm just sitting here waiting for my husband to actually say something to her, but he just stays quiet...
I mean, just look at me—I ended up in a huge blowout with my own mom yesterday (it was Mother's Day, after all), and I was feeling pretty low because of it. Then, late that night, my husband calls his mother to wish her a happy Mother's Day... and yeah, that was the breaking point that sent me into a total meltdown.
