Inland Empire by David Lynch in Movies ·
here 😲 goes my attempt at a 😲

I should probably report that ever since I watched the film, I've been plagued by incredibly vivid nightmares. The first night, it was this scene with kids on dirt bikes crashing into my yard and running over one of them until they died 😁, and then last night, I dreamed that some "them" arrived to decontaminate the whole area, stripping us of everything—our house, our dogs, just everything 🙂. To top it off, my dad actually told me we need to move out to California; any guesses where the Inland Empire is?

The last time I was hunted by these kinds of horrific nightmares was when I got too deep into studying those satanic images hanging on the wall back in Apple 😁

My apologies for the off-topic rambling, but I’m genuinely curious if anyone else has had similar experiences. Also... am I going to die anytime soon? 😁
😍 Honestly, I was just messing around 😳

Seriously, did I ever mention that being at that concert felt like being in a total trance? 😕

But hey, just tell me one thing: how does it stack up against Mulholland Drive?

Look, I always cite Mulholland Drive as one of my absolute all-time favorites, but this one? This is one of those films with a real message 🙂—it's all about that internal damnation and the sheer impossibility of escape, that kind of shit. 😁

So, I stumble upon this headline online the other day: James Cameron finds Jesus 😲. Naturally, curiosity gets the better of me, so I click through, only to find out the whole thing is actually about some documentary regarding the tomb of Christ 🤣.

As for me, there is absolutely no way I am sitting through Titanic again. Honestly, I think I lost ten pounds just watching it; my tear ducts were working overtime, and I swear I developed goosebumps from pure shock. No way, man :fakin mimoza:

quietdriver3 said:I don't think I've ever seen a piece of art that felt truly evil. Maybe it's because, you know, art comes from the soul, so the assumption is that it can't be malicious... so, yeah, I guess I really need to see this film😬

You aren't going to find "evil" in a movie; what you'll likely find is art. Honestly, Jason Gonzalez7 explained perfectly what we're looking at here. And clearly, I was wrong—some people are just completely drawn to repulsive ideas. Personally, I have a huge soft spot for things that are unhealthy, but pure evil🙂? No thanks. Sure, even evil can be aesthetically pleasing, but that isn't the case with this film. To me, this movie feels like a spiritual sickness.😁
I mean, when I watch movies, I look for insight into the world before I look for "art." I want to know if I actually *need* to be confronted with a discovery as horrific as the one this film offers. If you ask me, the universe is probably already dealing with enough serious bullshit😁 without this kind of senseless butchery.

I’m honestly saying the same thing: Kyle Watson8 and placidlynx23 really need to stop acting like such total idiots. 🙂

Anyway, here is my take on this, since I can't find a better way to put it:

There is an undeniable, dark energy at play here. Maybe it's just an illusion, maybe it isn't some distinct entity existing outside our own minds—though if you ask me, watching those kids on their motorcycles... 😲 even if it is just an illusion, it’s so persistent that it practically screams for a deeper explanation. Is that what Lynch was chasing with this film, searching for the ultimate mystery of life? Did he write a letter straight from "hell"? I don't know if that actually answers any fundamental questions; I won't presume to step in there, because frankly, I failed to grasp the film myself. Regardless, Lynch has crafted something profoundly spiritual, but don't expect enlightenment, because it is inherently evil 😁. I’ve always held the belief that art is the only thing capable of revealing certain facets of life—of the soul, or whatever—that everything else fails to touch. But that relationship hits a wall the moment I become its victim, even if we are talking about the most brilliant film ever made. You can call me a coward if you want, but I call it wisdom 😁
. There are ideas that draw us in, ideas from which we can mostly gain and extract meaning, but in this film, the ideas are presented in a way that actively repels us. The real question, then, is what on earth compelled Lynch to make this film in the first place 😁

placidlynx23 said:It depends on who you mean by "average person." But considering the tastes people have lately—given the literal epidemic of ADHD sweeping the country, given how hyper-pragmatic everyone has become, and seeing as most people lack any real intellectual depth, emotional capacity, or aesthetic sensibility—I’d say this film isn't for the "common man." Not our true contemporaries. This is a work of art. It doesn't care about "entertaining" us (though we all know what "entertainment" actually means these days); its goal is to enrich the viewer in some way or another.

And no, the movie isn't "messed up." No Lynch film is. You just have to approach it differently than those plot-driven, narrative-heavy movies. You have to watch all his work that way, even the ones that seem more traditional, like Blue Velvet for instance.

If I'm being too vague, look—if someone is genuinely interested in Lynch and his body of work but feels like they "don't get it," I suggest buying and reading this:

Lynch on Lynch

As for those who don't like Lynch, it would be better if they just stayed away and didn't embarrass themselves with their "comments" and "ratings."

awwww 😁

I honestly wish you could convince me that I haven't lived ten more lifetimes than you have 😘

I absolutely adore every single one of the three Lynch films I've managed to sit through—Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet, and Wild at Heart. But this particular movie? It’s just pure evil. And look, I come from a rougher background, so I’m certainly not naive enough to fall for its tricks 🙂 😁

Stick to those persistent Magellan enthusiasts who are obsessed with the metaphysics of evil 😁

I honestly can't do that. I'm more of a light attractor myself—an art enthusiast first and foremost 😁

I just sat through some pretentious moralizing chick flick, and honestly, I hated every single second of it. I’ve effectively wasted three hours of my life watching nothing but absolute garbage masquerading as high art. Just what I needed today, really. 🙄

quietranger14, darling 😘 I’ve been sitting here reading your story, and honestly, it’s so heartbreakingly moving that I actually broke down in tears. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

I’m really not one for handing out unsolicited advice—everyone’s journey is entirely unique, and we all have to find our own way through the woods. I could certainly write out what helped me rebuild my own self-esteem, though I suspect I might as well be speaking a foreign language to you right now.

I just wanted to reach out and say, HEY LOVE 😘 it's a beautiful world. A deeply sad, yet beautiful world. 🙂 🙂

The path ahead of you will be an uphill battle, my dear, but you’ll be the first to reach the summit because you were the last one to start the climb.

Jose Miller17 said:Truth. This tiny corner of the internet is the perfect example of that... though I have to admit, I don't really get the "checkbox" mentality myself. What does it even mean to "watch" a movie? Is the goal just having functioning eyeballs? When you sit down to swap ideas, you want to talk about what that piece of celluloid actually did to your soul. Honestly, I’d much rather talk to someone who's seen five movies but actually has an opinion, rather than some zombie rattling off a list of everything they watched since yesterday.

I disagree. 😁 Opinions are often total garbage. Personally, I would never look down on someone just listing what they've watched; maybe those people are actually wise 😁. Perhaps they understand that the most accurate way to judge a person is through what they love 😛. And besides, you don't need to ruin that sense of mystery by over-explaining exactly why you enjoy something 😳

I have to say, I can't stand Holden Caulfield either. 😈 Look, it isn't exactly a cinematic disaster, but I find the way it tries so desperately to look "deep" or "edgy" incredibly grating. Honestly, it makes me immediately skeptical of anyone who falls for that kind of pretension. That said, life is rarely black and white, and despite my personal grievances, it happens to be one of the absolute favorite films of my best friend. 😁
I had an absolutely wonderful time too, though deep down I knew it was going to be 🙂

Honestly, I have no idea what drew her to America 🙏. We were actually quite respectful about personal space, mostly. Aside from maybe those two guys hovering around with their cameras 😁

For me personally, the absolute chaos of Xanax, Good Charlotte, and Clean Bandit was just totally overwhelming
