Back pain help? in Health ·
Besides the tablets, did you mention which ones? And have you actually done any research yet?
Honestly, getting an exam at specialist clinics is definitely necessary
Regarding that lichen issue, you really ought to hit up a dermatologist so they can get you some actual meds. Honestly, dreadlocks are awesome and all, but they’re basically magnets for every random bacteria under the sun. My son actually gave up his nearly butt-length locks specifically because of that kind of stuff.
Your dad is kinda right about certain things, but 😉 don't sweat the "thinning hair" part too much. Just keep in mind—and you probably already know this—that if you decide to ditch the dreads, you're looking at a pretty short haircut to start over.
But seriously, the most important thing is that first bit: go see your doctor or a dermatologist to get that lichen sorted out.
Which hormones are we talking about here?
UTI test results/culture results in Health ·
Zachary Thompson9 laid it all out pretty clearly, but honestly, I’d still say getting a urine culture done would be a smart move.
It's just the best way to pinpoint exactly what's causing any inflammation so you can treat it based on actual results rather than just guessing—though, if I'm being real, my gut tells me the culture might come back clean. 😉
Since you aren't really feeling any discomfort right now, there's no reason to panic.
Maybe just run a urine sediment test again in about ten days to stay on top of things.

Could we be looking at an inflamed Bartolinijev gland here?
Look, if you really want to see those GGT levels spike, just go hard on the drinks tonight.🙂

Just kidding! In reality, having low ALT and GGT doesn't usually mean much clinically. However, seeing low platelets combined with high iron and a slight fever could definitely point toward something else. It’s tough to say for sure without the full picture, though—like knowing your white blood cell count, reticulocytes, or B12 levels.

That combo could potentially suggest some mild anemia. My best advice? Definitely check in with your doctor to get the full rundown.😉
Metastasis: Any hope for treatment? in Health ·
Hey Zlix, if you want to dig deeper into what this disease is actually all about, just shoot me a DM!
Ivanica

Even though I’m fighting my own battle right now, and I’ve got nothing but unconditional love from my family, I honestly just ADMIRE you.
I really hope you can stay this brave, but please, try to find some kind of balance—don't let your incredible selflessness and big heart end up costing you your health.
Ivanic, you saw what I meant when I mentioned that "God complex" some doctors have. I totally agree—giving out any kind of prognosis, whether it's six months, a year, or even just a few weeks like Nicole Edwards76 mentioned, is completely inappropriate. Honestly, it feels unprofessional and just plain inhumane. Regarding the stats, our neighbors in Canada have a super organized cancer registry that tracks everything down to the tiniest detail. Unfortunately, here in the States, our data is all over the place; it’s partially tracked, but nothing is centralized or kept up to date. We don't really have a single, unified national cancer registry, and it’ll probably be a long time before we get one that works. So, when a doctor cites statistics, it really just comes down to how much training and education they actually have. I saw this firsthand when my husband and I sat down with a pathologist who happens to be our neighbor. We asked him how many sarcomas he’d seen throughout his career and how many pathologists in the US actually specialize exclusively in this field. His answer was incredibly vague. He said he’d seen a few (very few osteosarcomas), and that Professor Devcic, who was an expert in the field, is already retired. Sadly, it feels like there's barely anyone left specializing in sarcomas right now (and honestly, I won't even go into the error rates for PhD sarcomas because the percentage is shockingly high). Anyway, that's the deal with the statistics. At the end of the day, hope always dies last. It’s up to us and our loved ones to stay fully mobilized and fight these illnesses with everything we've got. Having the right psychological approach and solid support from those close to us is absolutely vital.

I have no idea where the post I wrote yesterday went.😲
Prostate Cancer Discussion in Health ·
When it comes to prostate cancer, a guy's age and the specific stage it's at are huge factors—you really need more details to get the full picture.

It’s actually pretty common for guys to pass away from other stuff rather than the cancer itself.
I'm sure there’s fresh research out there, but there’s no point in diving into it until you give us a bit more info on the situation.

Some studies have looked into diet, and the results suggest that high-fat foods might play a role in triggering prostate cancer.
Lately, though, everyone seems to be leaning toward a vegetarian lifestyle.
Has anyone tried Phase 2 yet? in Health ·
Honestly, asking your GP about this isn't exactly the best move😉. I won't even get into why right now.
You can either follow a diet plan exactly as it’s written, or tweak things a bit—but obviously, you need to know what you're doing if you go the custom route.

My husband actually uses a customized version of the Wainhofen diet, and man, does it work! He doesn't even give the UN diet a second thought😉 and honestly, he's pretty much over it🙂. I should probably give him some credit here😎 because he’s been helping others tailor their own plans too; if anyone's interested, just shoot me a DM.

Regarding calories, one of the authors of that UN diet manual says this:
"What about calories?
One of the perks of this diet is that you don't have to deal with the headache of counting calories, since there aren't really any restrictions on food portions."
From what I've read, everyone's favorite part is the "carb day"🙄. Because of that, I actually think taking two Phase 2 tablets on carb days is a pretty smart move.

Look, the product isn't dangerous at all (you can safely take up to 6 tablets a day), but as for how well it actually works? You'll just have to try it for yourself and see!🙂
Honestly, I can't give you a definitive answer on that, but I'm pretty sure you'll score a better deal than buying directly from Advent—not to mention the quality will be way better too 😉.
You can check out the info over at www.cbp.gov, though I've no idea how much that'll actually help you 😉.
Psychotropic medication discussion thread in Psychology & Therapy ·
Zyprexa and Zoloft are basically next-gen antipsychotics🙄

Zyprexa is super trendy 🙄 so psychiatrists just toss it out there like it's nothing. Apparently, it doesn't cause those nasty movement side effects because the way it hits the receptors is super selective.

The whole mechanism behind how Zoloft works on receptors isn't totally figured out yet, but usually, it's used for psychotic states where hallucinations and delusions are the main issue.

Regarding that "mild sedation" thing, that’s usually more of a Zoloft side effect rather than Zyprexa, but honestly, if you're already stuck taking antipsychotics, you probably already know which one actually works for you.

As for the cost, yeah, Zoloft is priced exactly how you'd expect since Pfizer makes it, but from what I can tell, Zyprexa is sitting right up there with it.
Stiff leg... help! in Health ·
And honestly, my illness kind of dictated the username 👎. It’s definitely a bit weird and maybe even a little dark, but I actually wrote a whole post about it on my blog because so many people kept asking why I picked it.

Hey Mary, hope your leg is feeling better!👍

Give this one a shot. Honestly, if you're browsing eBay, you can usually snag them way cheaper since there are tons of sellers out there. Prices start around $39.
You could also check here, but it’s sitting at about $215.http://www.perfektegesundheit.de
Still, that’s a better deal than that stuff from Advent, which I think runs close to $700
Has anyone tried Phase 2 yet? in Health ·
A friend of mine just grabs it straight from their official website, and even with shipping, it lands around $87. Honestly, there aren't many side effects to worry about, maybe just a little bit of "bloating."
But hey, we all know how companies sometimes "forget" to mention certain side effects of meds or supplements when they need to. Just so you know, one bottle comes with 60 tablets, which lasts a month
. As for precautions, it’s not recommended for pregnant women or anyone dealing with diabetes.
By the way, Phase 2 pops up under different names, which is why prices vary so much. Most of the time, you'll see companies from England selling it across Europe.
It's actually pretty tough to explain exactly how it works, but basically, it targets the carbs you eat so you don't have to be super strict with your diet. 🙄
Usually, people pair Phase2 with the UN diet 😉
Metastasis: Any hope for treatment? in Health ·
I’m pretty sure this isn't just some propaganda stunt. If you actually take a second to read through all the posts, you'll see that Amy Roberts6 is genuinely looking for help. It's not just about the mushrooms either; Megamin gets brought up too.

Seriously though, if this doesn't chill out by Monday, just head straight to your doctor. Don't overthink it—they aren't going to kick you out or tell you you're being an idiot. Just go.😉

You aren't making these symptoms up. They're real, and your doctor really needs to take them seriously.
Honestly, if you're dealing with pain and swelling, that’s more than enough reason to go see your doctor. Get checked out, and they can send you to a specialist if things look serious.

I really want this pain and swelling to clear up ASAP, but hey, if it doesn't happen by the end of the weekend, I guess I'll just deal with it. Hey docs! Let's aim for Monday. After that, we can just keep the conversation going right here in this thread.😉
Ivanica, you hit the nail on the head👍
Trying to lecture doctors about being rude is pretty much a lost cause.
It’s not even really about their medical training; it’s just basic human decency and how people talk to one another.
But if we want things to actually change, we as patients need to hold our ground. From the very first meeting, we shouldn't let any doctor develop a "God complex." I actually struggled with this myself when I first got sick, but my husband—who’s also in healthcare, though he hasn't worked in the field for over 12 years now—really helped me figure out how to handle the doctor-patient dynamic.
First off, doctors should never be allowed to hide behind mysteries or throw statistics in your face. They take piles of data—which isn't always even accurate—and use it to build a psychological upper hand. It sends this clear message that they know everything and we, the patients or their families, are just here to sit and listen.
When a doctor speaks openly and publicly the way they spoke to your dad, it’s honestly shocking. At that point, it’s not even about empathy or being kind; it’s just a straight-up professional failure.
That said, we can't just generalize and say "all doctors and medical staff are the same."
Throughout my own illness, and from my 24 years working in ICU, I’ve seen some incredibly heavy situations. Sadly, there were times when I had to tell the "truth," even when I wasn't in a position to predict how much time someone had left by citing stats. I always tried to stay professional. Sometimes, when I say "professional," it might come off as "cold" to people who are extra sensitive in those moments, but it really makes you wonder where the line is for doctors and medical staff regarding how much emotion they should show.

"Here's the situation, it involves this and that, the stats look like this, I am so sorry, but please don't lose hope, stay strong and do everything you can, miracles happen, why couldn't your wife be the one, we will do absolutely everything medicine allows? Are you okay, do you need us to call someone to drive you home?..."

I totally agree with most of what you said, but I can't get behind a doctor talking about miracles—especially implying that maybe one of us or our loved ones could be "the one." And then there's that whole bit about the statistics.

Look, miracles do happen—spontaneous healings are well-known—but let's be real. We shouldn't expect a doctor to talk about miracles because they'll lose all credibility. It makes them look unprofessional and unreliable.

Don't be mad that I'm rephrasing your sentence, but personally, I would have written it like this:

The situation is such-and-such, it involves this and that (the situation or the illness? I'd probably go with the illness), I'm sorry, but we will do everything possible within the scope of medicine.
And definitely include that last part: Are you okay, do you need us to call someone to help you get home?

It’s not like Phase 2 is some brand-new thing or anything. A buddy of mine has been trying it out alongside the UN diet, and she says it actually works 🙄 Like, if you pair UN + Phase 2 and take two pills a day, you can drop about four or five pounds a week.
