To sleep with or without a pillow? in Health ·
I’ve always been a two-pillow person. I need one big, substantial one—none of those pathetic, thin things you usually find at a Marriott—plus a smaller one for support. If my head isn't propped up just right while I sleep, I wake up with a splitting headache, not to mention the neck pain. And don't even get me started on the lower back; if I happen to roll onto my stomach during the night and stay there too long, I wake up feeling like I've been hit by a truck. So, what Rachel Brooks63 wrote actually makes sense to me. Though, maybe this is all just down to individual biology.

Thanks, that’s what I figured. I just hadn't heard that particular phrase before, so I wasn't entirely sure if I was just missing the point or if it was some kind of old cliché I'd never encountered.

And what exactly defines a screw? 😕
PMS madness: any tips for coping? in Health ·
Look, I wouldn’t take him if you offered him to me for free, thanks but no thanks. 😁
Just don't use that as an excuse for how people treat me. Sorry, but I have bad days too—whether it’s due to hormones or whatever else—and I don't go around snapping at everyone like a lunatic because of it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying everyone dealing with PMS acts out, but I've certainly had my fair share of run-ins with people who use the "it's just my according to them PMS" line to justify being jerks.

If we're talking about PMS being the culprit, then honestly, I'd take him back in a heartbeat. Between my massive chocolate stash and the sheer amount of caffeine running through my veins, there’s absolutely no room left for him. 😛

The topic itself isn't stupid, but you all have drifted so far off-track with these responses. Honestly, it’s hard to tell who’s more stubborn here. It seems like everyone with a sense of moderation has checked out, leaving behind only the most rigid, inflexible people. As a neutral observer just following along from the sidelines, it’s glaringly obvious that there isn't actually much difference between you all—only the specific angles of your arguments.
To the girl who originally asked the question: I’m sure you found all this bickering incredibly helpful.

For instance, when > chimed in earlier, she made a claim that had absolutely nothing to do with reality, simply because she doesn't understand the subject: "We know what a 'Catholic' can and cannot do. If they are a true Catholic, they WON'T be hooking up before marriage. End of discussion."
If you understood even the slightest bit about the actual essence of faith (specifically Catholic, since I don't know enough about other denominations to comment), you'd realize how nonsensical that statement was. But I won't lecture you; I don't attend religious studies just to get dragged into debates like this.

And to those of you acting like judge and jury: "Judge not, lest ye be judged, for the same measure you use will be used against you."
My life is my own. How I live and what principles I follow is my business, but I have no right to dictate how anyone else lives or what they must do. In fact, judging others is fundamentally contrary to Christian values.

Anyway, that's all I have to say. Regards to everyone. 👋

I honestly have no clue why the mods haven't shut this thread down yet. 👎
Friday posts only in Health ·
Look, I should probably clarify one thing, even if it’s not really central to the point. For religious reasons, Fridays are meatless days, not fasting days. You don't eat meat, obviously, but fish doesn't count as "meat." Actual fasting only happens a handful of times a year during major holidays.
I stick to that tradition myself—you could call it religious, but honestly, it just works for me. And it's not just Fridays; I also skip meat on Tuesdays (around here, Tuesday is another meatless day for religious reasons).
So, it all boils down to making sure I eat things like fish, cheese, or mushrooms instead of meat. Sure, I slip up occasionally because it's not some rigid rule I'm bound by, but when the tradition is already there, I find it easy enough to embrace those two days a week.
I can't give you some generic recipe or tell you it's "good for this" or "good for that." At the end of the day, you have to see what your own body can handle.
Personally, I couldn't survive a day on just water and some light snack; my system isn't built for that. I don't have much of a reserve ( 😁 ), so if I don't eat enough, I start feeling pretty terrible. Your situation might be different. You really have to find the specific way that works for you—everyone else's experience won't help you much in the long run.

I haven't personally used any of those "miracle" remedies ( 😁 ), but I’ve never dealt with PMS—nor do I ever expect to—and frankly, it drives me insane when someone tries to brush off a bad mood by saying, "Sorry, it was just the PMS," after, say, a chicken decides to flap its wings right in my face.
I realize nobody here cares and I haven't exactly contributed much to the discussion, but I felt compelled to mention it so we don't fall into the trap of assuming every single woman suffers through this "unbelievable nightmare" of a condition. 😁

Oh, and granitegull3, from what I gather, it’s got nothing to do with circulation; it's all about hormones.
We’ve seen this exact same song and dance at the World Bank before. Honestly, it's just more of the same old rhetoric. Nothing new under the sun here. 😁

Thanks, Raymond Bennett9. Honestly, this went so much better than the last two times I had to do this. I should probably mention that I’ve already been back at my computer after just a few days—not for long, obviously, but I am back. The anesthesiologist was the complete opposite of the ones I dealt with before. We actually talked. He walked me through every single little detail, leaving nothing to chance. Even when I was waking up, he stayed there, explaining everything that happened during the procedure and just chatting about life in general. It made a difference.
Aside from the inevitable nausea following the anesthesia—which is just my luck, really, since I've always been prone to getting sick—everything else was miles ahead of my previous experiences. The surgery ended up lasting four hours because things got a bit more complicated than they initially anticipated, so I was "under" a little longer than planned. Even the anti-nausea meds couldn't quite stop the vomiting entirely, but truly, everything else was so much better. As for any throat or dental soreness? Nothing. Maybe a tiny bit of discomfort for an hour or so once I came around, but nothing worth complaining about.
And the staff... I don't even know where to start. They were a total dream for anyone facing surgery. No ego, no confusing medical jargon thrown around to sound important, just pure professionalism and kindness. I hope you get the same experience when your turn comes.
(Hopefully without the vomiting part.) 🙂
My eyes are killing me in Health ·
Look, my screen time has been significantly higher than yours for much longer than you've been at this (don't ask me how I know 😁), and since my daily staring sessions aren't any shorter either, I can tell you this: the computer might be aggravating your issues, but it’s likely not the sole culprit. Personally, I don't wear glasses or contacts—never needed them—and I haven't run into any vision problems.

All I can really tell you, just like everyone else here, is to go see an eye doctor and let a professional tell you what's actually going on.
That’s nothing. I guess you’re just one of those morning people. 😁
I hit my stride around 2:00 AM, usually staying wired until 4:00 or 5:00. It’s a massive headache, honestly, because nobody around me seems to get it. I find myself wondering why. 😁

Thanks for the reply, Bradley Chavez4, even if you weren't actually talking to me. I’m headed in for surgery this Saturday—unfortunately, though I suppose it’s actually a relief since I’ve been waiting on this forever. There's no dodging it. It’ll be standard general anesthesia (I don't really know how else to put it; I graduated from MIT, so all this medical jargon is completely foreign to me). They’ll be "pushing" me to head home after about half an hour, thankfully. There aren't any alternative methods available for my specific situation, but they did point me toward some anti-nausea pills. That's a huge deal for me because the physical strain of vomiting could absolutely wreck everything. As for pain management, there isn't much wiggle room beyond the standard meds; I asked the anesthesiologist, and they basically said there’s nothing else they can do there.
But honestly, the pain is the least of my worries. I handle pain just fine—I'm not one to sit around and whine. My main priority is making sure everything is done correctly so I'm not losing my soul on the recovery floor afterward.

Back when I had my first surgery, the internet wasn't even a thing yet—we were still stuck in the dark ages of information. There was no way to just look things up online.
But let’s be honest, some things are just plain absurd. I ended up finding out the most critical details by pure accident.
Anesthesia experiences? in Health ·
You know, you’ve really hit on something there, Betty Rivera14. It’s funny how that works. I never actually had anyone mention the whole nail polish thing to me—I found out by complete accident from some random person who isn't even in the medical field. Apparently, they were the one who got warned about it right before their surgery.
Anesthesia experiences? in Health ·
It wasn't even an emergency for me; I actually had my procedure scheduled two months out. Then again, I made sure to grill my surgeon about everything. We talked extensively, and honestly, I felt like I knew every single detail because they didn't leave a stone unturned. I can't really complain and say the whole thing was just some mindless routine, but that part regarding contact with the anesthesiologist? Yeah, that was definitely way too superficial.
Anesthesia experiences? in Health ·
In my experience, the whole pre-op assessment was basically just a quick blood draw and an EKG. I didn't even lay eyes on the anesthesiologist until they were actually administering the meds in the OR. If I wanted any real answers, I had to go out of my way to do my own research beforehand.

Elizabeth Miller8 said:Thousands of people wake up from anesthesia without any issues at all. Now, here we are, obsessing over the idea that we might be that one-in-a-thousand outlier who gets screwed over... I mean... maybe today is just the day a piano falls on your head. So let’s all sit here and stress about the piano falling on our heads, because hey, it’s technically possible. 😉

Oh, goodness, that wasn't what I meant ( 😁 ). There were some very specific cases about a year or two ago—just a handful of them in a short window. I know there was an investigation into why, how, and what happened... I can't recall the exact details anymore, so I thought maybe someone else here would remember.

As for the anxiety, listen, I don't fear most things that seem dangerous to the general public, but there is one thing that doesn't exactly terrify me, but rather fills me with this intense, deep-seated unease. And that is anesthesia and the dentist (my boyfriend is my dentist and he does a perfect job, which really highlights how irrational these emotions are 😉). Of course, it's not quite the same thing, but when you feel that way, hearing about other people's experiences means a lot more if they just stay quiet.

By the way, after both of my surgeries, I was wide awake like a rabbit the second the anesthesia wore off, though I couldn't move an inch because of the pain, so I wasn't much of a "rabbit" in that sense (Look, these were very specific shoulder surgeries, so I don't want to scare anyone). Then the nausea hit immediately; it didn't even take thirty minutes. And now, here we go again.
Anesthesia experiences? in Health ·
To whole situation honestly has me a bit on edge. I can’t quite put my finger on the exact timeline, but there were those incidents maybe a year or two back. Anyway, the thing is, I basically lost my soul after both times I underwent anesthesia—I couldn't stop throwing up. And the second I came around? I was wired, jittery as hell, just completely on edge. So, yeah, I'm fully expecting a repeat performance, and likely sooner rather than later. 😢
