How to become a total film snob in Movies ·
You might as well have titled this thread "How to be a total jerk."😁

What a total disaster!

I guess you think it’s some kind of tragedy for the young woman. 😁
X-Men 2 (2003) in Movies ·
I’ve been counting down the minutes until I can see X-Men 2 ever since I walked out of the theater after the first one.

Honestly, that first movie is easily one of the best sci-fi superhero flicks out there.

It was a little slow in parts, I guess, but I don't really see that as a flaw since it had to set the stage for everything else.

My expectations for this sequel are huge—I'm really hoping this turns out to be the "real" X-Men experience.

The only thing that's got me a bit worried is the plot. I heard some rumors that the good mutants and the villains might briefly team up or something. To me, that feels kind of lame for a direct sequel, but hey, who knows.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it plays out.

I mean, how can you honestly claim you don't realize how much people listen to all kinds of folk music and how massive it is across the whole USA?

driftingeagle27 said:I don't get this... Are you seriously implying that folk music is just "Mexican" music or something?
Does America even have a real sense of nationhood or any actual folk music anymore? I mean, honestly, it feels like we've lost it all.

Fair point.

When people talk about "folk music," I rarely think about traditional acoustic stuff or old-school folk songs. Usually, when someone brings that up, they’re actually talking about those mainstream, overproduced country-pop tracks you hear on every radio station.

When it comes to folk music, everyone knows exactly who calls the shots. It’s always the Americans and people from the Midwest.

To respond to Timothy Cox2—unfortunately, your friend hit the nail on the head, but he might have the timeline a bit mixed up. It hasn't just been happening lately; we're talking at least five or six years, maybe even longer.

Look, can we please just drop the whole "redneck" insult and the other low-brow labels? It’s getting old. If someone actually knows what they're talking about, I'd appreciate it if they could just step up and explain the logic to me without all the name-calling.

Dream all you want, I guess. Go ahead. 😁

By the way, Elvis Presley, aren't you actually based in the States?

Forget about it.

Look, Pokémon actually follow certain rules. I guess the problem is just that these idiots don't know how to properly dub anything, so they just end up messing everything up for the users.

The Bare Necessities
The simple B. N.
Forget about your worries
and your strife

I mean the B. N.
are Mother Nature's recipes
That bring the B. N. of life

Wherever I Wander
I couldn't be fonder of my big home.

the beez are buzzing in the trees
and make some honey just for me
when you look under the rocks and plants
and take a glance at the fancy ants
and maybe, try a few
the bear necessities of life will come to you
they'll come to you

Man, that cartoon was such a classic. 😁
And then I start thinking about those scavengers 😁

(Speakers cranked to the max. I'm bouncing around the room, dancing and mimicking Louija's moves)

"Now I'm the king of the swingers
Oh, the jungle Verizon..."

(hanging from the chandelier and swinging back and forth... my old lady is yelling at me to pipe down)

"I've reached the top and had to stop
And that's what's bothering me."

(my wife walks in to see why I'm making such a racket and starts screaming at me to get off the light fixture)

"I wanna be a man, man cub
and stroll right into town..."

(the neighbors are complaining about the noise)

"And be just like the other men
I'm tired of monkeyin' around."

(the chandelier snaps under my weight and I go crashing down, smashing whatever happens to be nearby)

"Oh, doo-be-doo
I wanna be like you.
I wanna walk like you,
talk like you too"

(they're trying to calm me down but I just can't help it, the rhythm is way too good.
The police break into the house)

"You see it's true
An ape like me.
Can learn to be human too"

(they lead me away in handcuffs)

as the patrol car drives off, you can hear it, getting fainter and fainter:

"Now don't try to kid me, man cub
I made....."

There is just no way that Jungle Book 2 is even remotely as good as the original. 😁

I guess Jungle Book 2 is definitely going to be a total miss when it comes to the actual story and the quality of the animation, but it’ll probably rake in a ton of cash. Honestly, it feels like making money is the only thing Disney actually cares about lately.

Actually, thanks for reminding me.

The last Disney movie I actually sat through was "Lilo & Stitch," but I think I meant the last Disney disaster I saw in theaters, which would probably be "Treasure Planet."

"Lilo & Stitch" is miles ahead of "Treasure Planet" when it comes to an Oscar...

I honestly have no clue.

I saw some clips on my phone suggesting it was finished, but I had no idea it actually hit theaters here in the States.

Anyway, I don't think I'm up for seeing it in a theater... I'm still recovering from that last Disney disaster.😲

I'll just wait for it to drop on streaming or Blu-ray, though honestly, I'd probably just grab a cheap ticket at a local Broadway theater if I did go.

Besides, I caught some of the teasers recently and can you believe how fake it all looks?

I'm pretty sure it's going to be even worse than the first one. Hmph... maybe I should rewatch the original just to refresh my memory.

I'd much rather just wait until it hits DVD/streaming.

Lilo & Stitch in Movies ·
So, I just finished watching almost all of the animated films that were nominated—and please, pay close attention to how I word this. 😁Regarding the Oscars, aside from that one "wild card" nominee I really don't expect much from, I feel like the whole thing boils down to this: it's basically "AI" versus "Human Artistry."

slyrider16: I guess I have to ask... why does Hayao Miyazaki always have to be such a pain?

And why on earth is Hayao Miyazaki so worked up about it? Look, you know as well as I do that the Oscars are basically an "American awards show for Americans." They're designed to honor American films. If they want to recognize international cinema, they have their own specific categories for that, right?

It doesn't really work that way with animation. I guess everything that manages to snag a nomination is just somehow tied back to what the big American studios are pushing.

So, here we go again... Disney bought up the distribution rights for "SA" in the States, which basically gave them the leverage to nominate it for awards—otherwise, I guess they wouldn't even have the standing to try. It’s pretty much a rigged setup. If "SA" ends up grabbing a piece of the pie, that money just flows straight back to Disney. And let's be real, they had almost nothing to do with the actual film, and they barely even bothered to give it a decent theatrical run here. It’s honestly ridiculous when you look at the numbers. In Japan, the DVD was out before the movie even hit theaters in America, and it actually pulled in more than Titanic did.

I mean, wouldn't you be absolutely livid if you poured all your time, your hard-earned money, your creative vision, and your actual soul into a project, only to watch a bunch of people who had nothing to do with it swoop in at the end and grab all the credit? It’s infuriating, honestly. I guess it just makes you wonder why anyone would even bother anymore.

I guess there’s actually another reason why Hayao Miyazaki might be pissed off. Disney went ahead and nominated two of their own films, yet they still don't stand a chance at winning. It honestly makes me wonder if Disney even has any confidence in their own work, considering they have to lean on other studios just to stay in the running.

slyrider16: hmmm... I mean, I could eventually see him understanding it IF: Disney is actively covering up the fact that Studio Ghibli isn't actually their studio, they're trying their best to avoid mentioning Hayao Miyazaki, and the financial side of the deal is set up so that Miyazaki won't see a single cent... wait a second, we're talking about Hollywood here... so honestly, that possibility seems pretty realistic.

It’s like Disney isn't even trying to hide the fact that they didn't actually make this movie. Instead, they just act all proud of the distribution side of things, as if being the middleman is somehow their greatest achievement. It's honestly kind of ridiculous.

I guess I should probably clarify if that movie was actually shown in the States or not, because honestly, it’s such an incredible film.

OFFTOPIC:
I just remembered... there aren't exactly a ton of flight scenes, but I guess the few they actually included are totally worth it.

That scene where Haku flies alongside the building, shown from a first-person perspective... man, that's something else.👍

Steven Ruiz said:What? I thought Lilo & Stitch was a perfect movie too. I even cried when things got rough, sitting there watching those duck cartoons with my family... and I'm way past that stage of life.

Oh God...🙄 🙄 🙄

I actually just watched it yesterday... and honestly, it was terrible.

I mean, look, it's probably fine for kids up to about 13, but for me, it just left a bad taste in my mouth.

It feels like Disney just goes around stealing ideas left and right.

I still have no clue how this even made the Oscar nominee list.

slyrider16, if you're wondering why Hayao Miyazaki is so pissed about that "Spirited Away" Oscar nomination, just go watch Lilo & Stitch and Treasure Planet... then everything will make sense to you.

that's basically it.

Lilo & Stitch in Movies ·
Whoa, whoa, whoa... let’s dial back the "perfect animated masterpiece" labels just a little bit, shall we?

First off, I haven't actually sat down to watch Lilo & Stitch yet—I'm planning to catch up on my watchlist over the next few weeks—but based on everything I've heard and seen about it, it seems like just another one of those "typical" Disney movies.

I mean, sure, it’ll probably be fine to watch if you just want some mindless entertainment.

If you're honestly that obsessed with it, 👍 ...well, I guess I'm glad there are still people out there who have that much faith in Disney. (Personally, I lost hope a long time ago). But I'm pretty sure this thing will be completely forgotten in a year.
