The revolving door of veteran players in Fans ·
Is it just me, or does it feel like players at a certain age just start circling the same big clubs like moths to a flame? It feels like they can't stand being away from the spotlight for more than a season.

Kate Young56 said:It’s an intriguing animation, one that I found quite engaging... I was actually surprised by how effortless it is to watch; it lacks that frantic, exhausting energy you see so often, yet manages to leave a lasting impression because it refuses to settle for being just another mindless cartoon. Regardless, if you can track down a copy on DVD, I’d certainly suggest adding it to your collection...

Good grief, look at this absolute deluge of nonsense... This individual easily earns a spot in the top ten most clueless posters on this entire film forum. We really ought to just start a dedicated thread specifically for these moronic takes...

Do you people actually bother reading the previous posts, or do you just spout random nonsense whenever it suits you? I honestly don't understand how someone can drop a comment like that after everything that’s been discussed at the start of this thread...

Noah Watson4 said:A brilliantly crafted film... incredible sets, a cast of then-unknown actors... and yeah, the soundtrack is killer... I honestly feel like Kaufman hasn't produced anything substantial since that movie... 🙂

The soundtrack is "killer" for one very simple reason—it was stolen. It’s straight-up plagiarism of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto, Holst's Planets, Debussy's Clair de Lune, and Handel's Hallelujah Chorus...

The reality is the film was already finished by the time he was assigned the score. So, he just draped other people's work over it...

(Not that he doesn't steal regardless)

Kaufman hasn't done anything substantial since then!?!?
You think so??
Think again...

newcomer said:...that specific kind of artistic license where they attempt to grasp the essence of Jesus—assuming such a thing exists—by placing his life in entirely different circumstances, attributing to him certain vulnerabilities that make him feel human, and therefore, relatable to us...

EXACTLY. And this is precisely where the narrow-mindedness of the Church becomes apparent; they failed to see the merit in it, viewing any departure from their scripted fairy tale about Jesus as nothing short of heresy.

After watching the film, I spent quite some time wondering what the Church’s actual grievance was, because to me, it felt like a profound sort of apologetics regarding Jesus' suffering; even when presented with the chance to lead a completely different life, everything inevitably drew him back to the cross... one could almost argue that his sacrifice and agony are so intrinsic to his destiny that even the Father, despite pulling him from the cross, wouldn't protect him from it. In the film, his sacrifice is essentially part of his identity, his very fulfillment as the Son.

But, hey, the masses don't care about that nuance; they're too busy being scandalized by Mary Magdalene.

P.S.
And let’s be honest, Jesus would have been just another one of those many lunatics claiming to be the Messiah if she hadn't sponsored his travels... but the Church conveniently forgets to mention that part.

Caught it tonight, and I have to say, it was quite enjoyable.
Cate Blanchett’s portrayal of Audrey Hepburn was nothing short of impeccable... she captured everything from the vocal nuances to the subtle facial expressions perfectly.

The cinematography is also rather intriguing...

Has anyone else had the chance to see it yet?
Pure garbage...

Melissa Moore32 says:
Because this just isn't one of those rare cases where a sequel could actually match the caliber of the original movie.
What I’m really hoping for—if we can even call it that—is for Pixar to maintain this specific momentum and stylistic approach. Essentially, they should take a core theme, a conflict, or just some central concept... it doesn't strictly matter... as long as the film possesses a genuine point or an underlying idea... whatever... and then construct the narrative using that same toolkit of action, drama, and visual style found in The Incredibles, but simply transplant it into an entirely different setting... if you follow my drift...

So, yeah, exactly, Incredibles 2 would only really work if it functioned as a standalone piece rather than a traditional sequel.

Honestly, this is just nonsense—it reads more like a grocery list than a curated selection. You’ve completely overlooked Gabriel Bryn, Paul Newman, Charles Bronson, Jan Michael Vincent, Kevin Bacon, and even Kevin Costner... and look, say what you want about him, but he was effortlessly cool in Bull Durham and Perfect World... Not to mention Michelle Pfeiffer, Cathy Moriarty, Sigourney Weaver, or Barbara Hershey, just to name a few...

And finally, there's MR. COOL, - Sam Shapard

Well, you certainly nailed it. Just like that little bit of "validation." I honestly have no idea how you managed to pull that together so seamlessly... 😉

Melissa Moore32 said:Comparing "Finding Nemo" to "Lord of the Rings" or "Harry Potter"... it’s a bit like comparing apples to oranges...

Wow, slow down just a second, let’s not go too hard on Nemo... So, regarding the entire cast of The Incredibles—and I'll give credit where credit is due to whoever actually started this thread with all those compliments—just please stop comparing them to the rest of the Pixar lineup... You should really be measuring them against DreamWorks, Warner Bros., or even the usual Disney fare instead...

P.S.
Nemo is essentially a cartoon for adults that kids happen to be able to watch, rather than the other way around... 😁
Don't tell me you're actually laughing at a joke meant for children...

DUBBED?!? Are they actually out of their minds? This isn't some little Mermaid flick for five-year-olds...

Oh, really, well, damn it all... I suppose this is one of those perks of living outside the States, being able to actually watch animation without the dubbing...

But honestly, I’m just curious, because I’m certain they just grab random voices from a guy in New York, someone from Chicago, maybe a kid from Houston, and a local from Miami... but what about the West Coast people?...
The Incredibles in Movies ·
So, what are everyone's thoughts?

The Incredibles feels a bit different from their previous stuff, and honestly, kids might find it a little jarring—it isn't quite Finding Nemo.
There’s definitely humor, sure, but it lacks that specific comedic punch you get in something like Monsters Inc.
Personally, I thought it was brilliant... there are moments where you completely forget you're watching an animation. If this were live-action, people would be raving about the cinematography, the editing, the sound design... perhaps that's the best way to describe The Incredibles, a cartoon that carries the weight of a real film, filled with phenomenal scenes... and it's just incredible how much life they breathe into these animated characters...

P.S.
Yes, I am one of those people who strictly sticks to Pixar films and considers Dreamworks productions, like Shrek, to be total garbage.

It’s likely floating around somewhere on the internet if you're looking for a download, though I can't say for certain... As for actually buying a copy, I don't think that's an option...

Look, you're starting from the assumption that I actually live in the States and have any intention of hunting down a legitimate retail copy... 😉

Alright, fine, I suppose I'll write down a few things that are actually worth watching... from one perspective or another...

Adam Wright56,

Perfect, I was starting to worry I might actually get crucified for my opinion... :-)

Anyways, if you didn't quite vibe with Akira, maybe give "Memories" a shot... it's three standalone sci-fi stories by Katsuhiro Otomo, with Koji Morimoto and Okamura Tensai handling the direction for two of them.

I've seen them, and yeah, I actually enjoyed them.

I've had Ghost in the Shell sitting on my shelf forever, but I just... I CANNOT... bring myself to sit through the whole thing.

I just catch them on my phone, watching one episode a day whenever they pop up...

I'm just waiting for a decent version of Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence to drop.

Oh, thanks for the reminder, I think I'll go hunt for a copy tomorrow if I can find it...

Anyway, I know you've touched on this before, but would you be up for putting together a list of, say, 10 essential must see anime films?

Finally finished watching Akira.
A bit disappointed, if I'm being honest...

P.S.
I still find myself dipping into "Stand Alone Complex" every once in a while, though it feels like they took a cult classic and turned it into some cartoon series for kids...
