"Hello? ... Ah ... I can't hear too well. Do you suppose you could turn the music down just a little? ... Oh-ho, that's much better. ... yeah ... huh ... yes ... Fine, I can hear you now, Dmitri. ... Clear and plain and coming through fine. ... I'm coming through fine, too, eh? ... Good, then ... well, then, as you say, we're both coming through fine. ... Good. ... Well, it's good that you're fine and ... and I'm fine. ... I agree with you, it's great to be fine. ... a-ha-ha-ha-ha ... Now then, Dmitri, you know how we've always talked about the possibility of something going wrong with The * Bomb. ... The * Bomb, Dmitri. ... The *hydrogen* bomb! ... Well now, what happened is ... ah ... one of our base commanders, he had a sort of ... well, he went a little funny in the head ... you know ... just a little ... funny. And, ah ... he went and did a silly thing. ... Well, I'll tell you what he did. He ordered his planes ... to attack your country... Ah... Well, let me finish, Dmitri. ... Let me finish, Dmitri. ... Well listen, how do you think I feel about it?! ... Can you *imagine* how I feel about it, Dmitri? ... Why do you think I'm calling you? Just to say hello? ... *Of course* I like to speak to you! ... *Of course* I like to say hello! ... Not now, but anytime, Dmitri. I'm just calling up to tell you something terrible has happened... It's a *friendly* call. Of course it's a friendly call. ... Listen, if it wasn't friendly ... you probably wouldn't have even got it. ... They will *not* reach their targets for at least another hour. ... I am ... I am positive, Dmitri. ... Listen, I've been all over this with your ambassador. It is not a trick. ... Well, I'll tell you. We'd like to give your air staff a complete run-down on the targets, the flight plans, and the defensive systems of the planes. ... Yes! I mean i-i-i-if we're unable to recall the planes, then ... I'd say that, ah ... well, ah ... we're just gonna have to help you destroy them, Dmitri. ... I know they're our boys. ... All right, well listen now. Who should we call? ... *Who* should we call, Dmitri? The ... wha-whe, the People... you, sorry, you faded away there. ... The People's Central Air Defense Headquarters. ... Where is that, Dmitri? ... in Omsk. ... Right. ... Yes. ... Oh, you'll call them first, will you? ... Uh-huh ... Listen, do you happen to have the phone number on you, Dmitri? ... Whe-ah, what? I see, just ask for Omsk Information. ... Ah-ah-eh-uhm-hm ... I'm sorry, too, Dmitri. ... I'm very sorry. ... *All right*, you're sorrier than I am, but I am as sorry as well. ... I am as sorry as you are, Dmitri! Don't say that you're more sorry than I am, because I'm capable of being just as sorry as you are. ... So we're both sorry, all right?! ... All right."
Just got my hands on Sick of It All - Spreading The Hardcore reality trajati 11>> It’s only about 11 and a half minutes long, but somehow they squeezed 12 tracks in there...
Justin Taylor said:Yeah, seriously... I totally get where you're coming from... it’s actually pretty tough to sit through a band that maybe messes up only two or three times during a whole three-hour set!!! Man... what a load of crap... real bands mess up at least ten times, if not more. 🙂 🙂 😵 🤮 🤮 👎 👎
wyrm said:Man, this is exactly why I ended up looking like such a hack... comments like these just ruin everything. Cheers, Gianluca! I am 100% with you on this one. 👍
You wouldn't even be able to write a comment like that.
wyrm said:P.S. Just a heads-up, this is strictly my own take on things. If anyone wants to start an argument about it, don't expect me to sit here and explain my reasoning, how I got there, or why I feel the way I do... I'm just saying what I think.
First off, sorry for being so slow to get back to you, but my internet connection is absolute garbage today. 😠
They played their own original stuff (live), but you could honestly call it classical in a way—those Jordan Rudess keyboard parts and the acoustic sections give it that specific vibe. The guitar and keys just weave together; the music feels really fluid even though the tracks run pretty long (around 9 minutes). It gets a bit frantic at certain points, but mostly it’s all about building those melodies. And man, you don't even need to talk about the technique when JP is involved. There are moments where it reminds me of Al Di Meola, but then again, that’s just his style. He mixes acoustic and electric guitar so well. It’s basically Petrucci in a different light, showing off how much range he actually has. If you want, shoot me a PM and I'll send it over to you.
I’d also suggest checking out two things by Jason Becker—Air and Altitudes; just so you can see how metal guys can play incredibly beautiful, light, and atmospheric stuff too.
As for Steve Vai and Joe Satriani, sometimes (okay, often) they tend to go a little overboard with the technical "self-indulgence," but it doesn't bother me that much. I value technique just as much as feeling, since they're really two sides of the same coin.😉 I think it's a different story with John Petrucci (listen to the solos on Voices, Learning to Live, Under a Glass Moon, and Take the Time); he’s managed to perfectly balance insane technique with actual soul.
I’m a huge fan of Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and John Petrucci. Also love Dustin Johnson, Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin, and Pat Metheny. Oh, and Jason Becker too. And Jeff Beck. Honestly? I just really love myself.
Not really my thing, though—Yngwie Malmsteen.
Alex Martinez4, you might actually dig An evening with John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess. It's got a bit of that classical vibe to it.
Maria Morris5 said:Of course it makes sense, but if a song goes longer than five minutes, it needs some repetition or something like that.
ABSOLUTELY WRONG! Where on earth are you getting this idea that it "has" to happen? Look, take Dream Theater, for example—and yeah, I’ll admit it, I’m a bit of a music snob, so what? 🙂 ) They have a ton of tracks that run 7 or even 10 minutes long, and almost none of them sound the same from start to finish. Maybe they'll hit a chorus a couple of times here and there, but that's about it. Honestly, most songs that are only 5 minutes long actually have way more repetitive choruses. You really need to listen to a lot more music before making claims like that.
Count me in on this one. Honestly, did you guys hear they actually had a dedicated coordinator just for the butt scenes? I mean, that pretty much tells you everything you need to know about the quality of this movie.
I didn't even catch the first one, and goodness knows I’m definitely skipping the sequel.
