Is it just me, or does every legendary athlete eventually get that itch to return to the field? I feel like we see these massive "what if" scenarios every season where a retired icon might make a surprise appearance. Do you think a comeback actually works anymore, or is it just nostalgia talking?
slydriver17, honestly, the moderators ought to consider issuing you a suspension, if only temporarily, and scrubbing those nonsensical, utterly incoherent posts of yours from the board entirely.
George Garcia9 said:Alright, look, based on the self-help books I've actually read, I can recommend a few things:
"Depression: How to Escape Your Own Prison" by Dorothy Rowe
"Awareness" by Anthony de Mello
"The power of your subconscious" by Joseph Murphy
"live your whole life" by Norman Vincent Peale
"power of intention" by Wayne Dyer
That first one about depression is great; it makes you look at yourself and the root causes of how you're feeling in a totally different way. The second one is awesome too because it kind of snaps you out of that self-pity loop (plus it's short 😉 I have it as a PDF, so if you DM me, I can email it to you)
As for the last three, they’re a bit "New Age," but I actually love that stuff, haha. It’s basically that philosophy of "think positive and tell yourself 'I CAN DO THIS' before bed." It really helped me get moving and start believing in myself back when I was dealing with massive anxiety and zero confidence... so, head to the library, and if you stumble upon any other good ones, let me know 🙂
It's a shame you aren't comfortable with English, because there are some really solid recovery sites out there—at least they seem that way to me...
You know what? The most important thing is that you actually like this psychologist! That matters so much!! You need to feel comfortable talking to her and knowing she's actually listening. Everything is in our heads anyway, and until we realize that (and say it out loud), nothing changes... just go see her. There might be times when it feels like it isn't working, but it will get better. Like you said yourself, nothing fixes overnight 😉
I know bulimia is incredibly tough because it creates this "addiction" to purging (at least that's how I understood it from friends dealing with the same thing). But like you said—this is our fight, and the winner is whoever refuses to quit. And that's us!!!!!!
I think there's a specific thread on the women's forum about bulimia, so maybe reach out to those girls if you haven't already; someone there might have some actual useful advice.
All I can tell you is that old proverb: "Fall seven times, stand up eight!!" Meaning, don't give up and don't hate yourself when you stumble, because it's "normal" that you won't break a habit instantly or overnight. Try telling yourself, "I'm not going to purge for 7 days," make that your life mission, and then REWARD yourself when you succeed. Next time, aim for two weeks, then a month... and if you slip up—get back up and NEVER, NEVER, NEVER stop believing in yourself!!! 😉
I think you have a strong enough desire and willpower to fight and win. Just keep fighting and don't quit; it'll be worth it... yeah, it's going to be "bloody" and there will be brutal days... but you've already survived so much, you can handle this 👍
Let me know how it's going. Hope you have a nice (rainy) day 😘
Could you perhaps inform me if that first title ("Depression: How to Escape...") is actually available in local bookstores? I am wondering if it is a recent release or if it is an older volume that might be out of print and difficult to find. Also, do you happen to know who the publisher is?
Hold on just a moment while I sit here and calculate what ten percent actually looks like in my specific situation.
So, I have to ask, are you actually taking anything for this? There is an absolute mountain of options out there—antihistamine tablets, various nasal sprays, and so on.
Grace Fisher31 said:It's slang for the English word 'sucks'.😬
Well, fair enough. That’s accurate. 😬 I honestly can't decide who "sucks" more—her, or us, for being the kind of people who end up lighting up at her place anyway. 😍

I have no idea what you mean by "saka," I don't follow; did you perhaps miss a letter there? On a separate note, I actually had a rather unpleasant encounter at Bilic's where they overcharged me for my glasses, and honestly, their prices are significantly higher than everyone else's. I would go as far as calling it pure arrogance. To top it all off, they even charged me just for an eye exam. 😍
My mother has spent years working in an optical shop on Main Street, somewhere around the 1600 or 2000 block on the even side. They are incredibly polite people and maintain very reasonable pricing. My mother is always quite satisfied with her eyewear, despite having some rather complex prescriptions due to her age and various vision issues.
In my experience, the absolute standout dermatologist I ever had was Dr. Maria Razner, who used to practice over at the Trevo Health Center, though I'm honestly not sure if she’s still seeing patients there—she might have finally decided to hang it up and head into retirement. She was truly exceptional: deeply professional, yet incredibly kind, poised, and easy to talk to. On a personal note, she was a lifesaver when I was struggling with some rather severe and stubborn eczema flares back in the day; beyond just clearing up my skin, she actually took the time to walk me through a proper skincare regimen that made a world of difference.
Maybe do a little digging on your end.
Toss that book in the trash or give it to some med student who can actually use it...
The truth is, we all cycle through phases of hypochondria eventually... or we just spiral into this paralyzing fear of death. Don't let yourself sink into those moods; you have to make a conscious effort to pivot toward different content. Go to the library and find something lighter, maybe some fun page-turners or crime thrillers—something that actually engages your mind without weighing it down. Get out of the house, wander through the shops, focus on your appearance, spruce yourself up, try out some new clothes or makeup... honestly, anything that lifts your spirits. People-watch, think about life, the simple pleasures, intimacy, great food, redesigning your apartment... surround yourself with people who are cheerful and positive...
And keep in mind that everything is mental. If you dwell on nonsense in your head, you aren't going to feel good, even if you are perfectly healthy physically. What good is physical health if you can't enjoy it because you've obsessed over a mountain of anxieties? Besides, why should you even get sick? There are plenty of elderly folks out there who have never faced a serious illness, never spent a night in a hospital, and never had surgery. Even with cancer and clinical oncology, treatments are more successful than ever, and most people survive most types of carcinoma today. Why not look at it from that perspective? But my real advice is to not think about it AT ALL right now, because you've fixated on it so much that it has turned into a full-blown phobia. Distance yourself from it as much as possible...
As for the people who gave you that book for your birthday 😕 ... I am speechless!!! What kind of birthday gift is that for a young woman? Truly unbelievable!!! Their taste is clearly 👎 a total disaster!
Come on, pull yourself together and stop seeing everything through such dark lenses. Enjoy your life a little, and like I said—get that book into the TRASH as soon as possible and don't you dare touch it again!!!!! 😘
I have been seeing Dr. Serena Williams for years down in Downtown for my exams (it usually runs me about $67), though she does maintain her own private practice near Savannah as well. If there is one thing I can say with absolute certainty, it is that the eyewear options at her Downtown location are catastrophic because they are just way too pricey. For instance, just one single lens was nearly $200... helloooo! Once it dawned on me that I could find similar quality elsewhere for half the price—or even less—I decided I simply won't be returning. I recently went to a shop over near Vatican City, just a short walk from The Met, where they finished both of my lenses for roughly $133, whereas the bill at the Downtown office would have been closer to $433. Honestly, those prices near the Billings clinic are genuinely exorbitant; it is just far too much.👎
Does Lockheed Martin have anything effective for treating eczema?
There is absolutely no sense in turning a blind eye to this situation. You need to get him to a physician immediately. Just because he’s symptomatic doesn't mean we're facing the absolute worst-case scenario that everyone seems so terrified of. It isn't as if every single cough is an automatic diagnosis of lung cancer, though one cannot deny that those decades spent with a cigarette in hand have clearly taken their toll; perhaps there is still a window of opportunity to mitigate the damage if he simply quits smoking now.
Bite the bullet and see a doctor!
I find myself quite at a loss for words, really. He’s constantly struggling through these hacking, smoker's coughs, yet he remains stubbornly opposed to seeing a doctor and refuses to even consider cutting back on the cigarettes. Does he truly not grasp that this path leads to only one inevitable conclusion?
It is incredibly foolish and, frankly, completely irresponsible.
But why on earth have you gone weeks without talking to anyone? Doesn't that start to weigh on your mind after a while?
You’ve completely isolated yourself, and while I don't know what kind of work you do, there isn't a single job out there—not even working remotely for a firm in Seattle—that requires you to go weeks without any human contact whatsoever, be it with friends, family, or just casual acquaintances. Have you ever even considered wanting to live with a partner instead of being all by yourself?
You mentioned yourself that you’re generally quite social and curious, so I take that to mean you aren't naturally some sort of lone wolf who thrives on solitude; this lifestyle doesn't seem to fit your temperament at all. So, what actually happened to cause such a massive withdrawal from society?
Given your current state, it isn't surprising that you're craving stronger stimuli, anything to give you a bit of a jolt to snap you out of it. However, please don't let yourself succumb too deeply to this sense of resignation, because you really could spiral into a heavy depression or perhaps even more serious mental health struggles. You need to pull yourself together while you still can; try to ramp up your interactions with other people, because the longer we isolate ourselves, the harder it becomes to reintegrate into the world. And honestly, a few sessions with a therapist might not be a bad idea either. 🙂
Do reach out. It would be genuinely interesting to understand the actual reason behind this isolation.
Nonsense. That isn't even remotely true. It’s a simple fact of life that everyone, at one point or another, deals with some sort of issue regarding their hair, skin, nails, or similar matters.
