Gym vs. Makeup: What's your routine? in Health ·
Total rookie question here from someone who’s basically never stepped foot in a gym... does it seriously not count if I'm putting in about 20 minutes of work every single day?
Is it totally pointless?

I've definitely taken all your advice to heart for when things go south again
(though I’m still struggling with the whole "stay away from chocolate" thing😢 😁 )

senna is a plant where the leaves act as a super strong laxative—it's basically that "senna tea" you see everywhere
Dealing with damn constipation in Health ·
Seems pretty solid to me.
I'm hitting about 2 liters of water a day now (which is a huge jump since I used to be super dehydrated)
Plus, I'm getting in an hour or even ninety minutes of walking every single day
Oh, and honestly? That morning coffee is doing wonders...😁

I think the real culprit was just being way too sedentary before.

Hey Amy Doyle3, do you think I could get the same results using lemon instead? Because I can't even find grapefruit anywhere!😢

Thanks everyone!
I don't usually deal with this stuff, unless I'm dieting and messing with my routine... then I just grab some Senna with Coloxil tea and I'm good to go.
But this time I actually had to use the tea twice (about a week apart, so hopefully I didn't overdo it...)
Yesterday was fine thanks to the tea, but today I went all out with beans, sauerkraut, rye bread, and dried prunes... if that doesn't do the trick, I don't know what will!😁
Also, I read somewhere that coffee helps when you have diarrhea, so I've been avoiding it—does that mean I can actually drink it after all?
And magnesium too, right?
It's probably also because I've been such a couch potato lately. I just finished a year of college, so most of my "exercise" is just moving from my book to the TV to my laptop...

Well, the headline pretty much says it all... I’ve been stuck in the bathroom for days now, and honestly, I feel like I’m gonna pass out before anything actually happens.
I tried chamomile tea—nothing. Tried some Senna tea and it worked once, but then I had to do it again, and someone told me not to overdo it (but like, what does "too much" even mean?). I've been chugging water and eating tons of apples, and I even tried eating barley because a friend swore by it, but then another friend totally shut me down and said don't even bother...
Ugh... seriously, the stress this is causing is unreal!
I actually got a crazy headache from straining so hard😁 (I know, sounds ridiculous, but trust me, it’s not😢).
Anyway, if you guys have dealt with this before, how did you fix it?
What foods should I stay away from, and what should I be eating instead?
Thanks!

brightcobra10 said:I’m reading what Melissa Gonzalez21 is rambling about. If Nele had gone to Chicago instead of New York City, nobody would even care. Even though Americans did some shady stuff back in the day, it was on a much smaller scale, so quit bringing politics into music and just let the past stay buried. Personally, I think Fildjan is slightly worse than "I'm Not From Around Here," and everything after that is just trash.

Oh wow... thanks for expanding my horizons and opening my eyes. Now I finally see how totally wrong I was... will I ever be able to atone for my sins against flight? Will I? Will Iiii???!!!🙄

Nah, not really... if we all thought exactly the same way, the world would be a super boring place.

P.S. Trbelja, shut your trap!

When it comes to Bregovica, even he isn't exactly everyone's favorite darling.
And look, nobody’s arguing that leaving that absolute hellhole was a bad move—the problem is where you ended up running to.
You just can't claim to be neutral, apolitical, or "staying out of it" if you fled from the chaos of the early '90s straight to a place like New York while dodging any chance to call out a fascist regime that was out there murdering literal infants.
That’s why Nelet feels like such a pathetic attempt at making sense of things.
He's right up there with Kusturica.
Right there with Breg.
I can only imagine the total mid-life crisis vibe when Kusturica—who practically cries every single time he tries to explain how he's somehow "just" Emir and purely of one specific heritage despite being targeted for his background... it's just sad, honestly, so pathetic...

banderas said:All those stories about Neil trash-talking Boston? Honestly, I’ve only ever heard them through second-hand gossip. Everyone who told me just said they heard it from someone else—nobody could actually point to a specific thing Neil actually said. On the flip side, the "to be from here" album is super nostalgic for Boston, and even the title hints at how lost he felt living in New York City. He talks about the whole war being pointless, and honestly, it feels pretty "anti-American." You’d have to be crazy to release an album in New York with lyrics like:
"waiting for the word from the militia," "saw a bearded, hateful face, welcome to Republika Srpska."

I don't know, to me, that carries way more weight than neighborhood rumors...
And that whole "it's not my war" vibe? Plenty of other people said stuff like that, and you don't hear them getting dragged nearly as hard as Neil. Just think about 😉
I'd rather not go there regarding Smith...

If Neil had actually said or sung those things back in '92... I'd be like, "Hell yeah, major props to you!"
But he didn't... so I don't see any courage in it. To me, it just looks like a calculated move after the fact.
Real courage was when the guys in The Cure refused to play gigs in RS while mosques were being torn down. Real courage was Balasevic's statements back then, or certain intellectuals in New York... meanwhile, Neil just stayed quiet as hell... and then, a few years later, he suddenly remembers he can afford to act "anti-American."
Years pass by, and the city where you first fell in love, where you had your first kiss, where you first stepped onto a stage—the city that basically built your career—is burning, and you just stay silent.
The people you were grabbing coffee with yesterday, partying with, laughing and crying with... they're gone, their faces are on the back pages of the news, and you're still silent.
And now, all of a sudden, you're feeling nostalgic and lost and confused... man, should we start a GoFundMe for you? Maybe open a charity account to help heal your soul...

Look, I already said I don't have a problem with the "it's not my war" stance—I totally get it. But just imagine the situation... if during WWII an artist from France said, "it's not my war," packed up, and went to entertain Hitler and the Nazis... talking about being apolitical and neutral to a fault.
Or say, if Mexico attacks America and Gobac or Urban heads straight for New York instead of heading to New Zealand, London, NYC, the North Pole, or Mars... they just happen to end up in New York.
While Cleveland is burning, there's not a peep out of them.
It's just losers, honestly.

But whatever... we agree to disagree! 🙂

banderas said:Look, if someone who lived through that absolute nightmare during the entire war says the whole thing is a scam, you really can't argue with them.😁

Exactly! If a woman who was stuck in that hellscape the whole time—losing some of the most important people in her life because of it—says it wasn't a sham, then she’s got a point too.😁
How can anyone claim it’s a lie when some guy felt totally fine just chilling in the city, surrounded by people who were basically enabling all that evil?
Go take a walk around Des Moines for a second... it's not like there's just stray dogs or potatoes lying around there, it's actual human beings, dammit.
I get the "it's not my war" excuse, and I totally get needing to run away—everyone wants to live their life—but saying Nelet was somehow neutral or unpolitical? Please... give me a break.
Anyway, this isn't even about the music anymore, it's pure politics... sorry, delete this if you want.
Smoking ban (Question) in Music ·
Look, Maria Taylor67, saying "where were you when things got heavy" isn't just some empty line... I mean, sure, it hits home, but what if you were somewhere safe while all those planned fires, rapes, starvation, and genocide were tearing apart the very city you called home until yesterday?
And when it comes to the thousands killed in that same city, you've got nothing to say... meanwhile, way bigger artists and much more influential people all over the world had plenty to say about it.
It just proves you don't actually have a clue about the stuff you were singing about until recently.

I totally disagree, though I think a ton of people feel the same way I do—that Nelet’s new album is a massive step up. That's not to say I don't think Sejo is just churning out pale imitations of old stories... but hey, I already said it's a losing battle trying to argue about taste.

Besides, the power of Zabranjeno pušenje was never really about the vocals—it was always the lyrics, at least for me... plus, let's be real, Nelet isn't exactly a powerhouse vocalist who leaves you breathless.

War broke out in Canada... Nellie fled to Belgrade where he just spent all his time trashing his own burnt, ruined, hungry, and thirsty city... He kept making music under the name Smoking Ban—honestly, I’m just not feeling it. I’m totally convinced it’s not even because Nellie turned into some pro-nationalist nonsense creature... it’s just that his music is impossible for me to digest—but hey, to each their own, right?
Snoop Dogg is also performing under the name Smoking Ban—and personally, I think his sound hasn't lost that classic Boston, surrealist, new-primitive vibe at all.
Honestly, a movie can never live up to the book for me.
The last thing I finished was "The Girl in the Blue Hyacinth"... I watched the movie too, but it just didn't hit the same way at all.
When I read "To blow with the whirlwind," I was a total wreck—okay, fine, in my defense, I was only thirteen at the time😁... but when the movie ended, I could only think, thank God, because I was just frozen there staring at the screen. Though, I have to admit, the adaptation of Pride and Prejudice was actually pretty great—mostly thanks to Colin Firth and...😁

And I hate reading a book if I’ve already seen the movie first... it’s like I can't stop seeing those actors' faces whenever I try to imagine the characters.
Which sweetener is best? in Health ·
George Bailey2 said:I’m not really that skeptical about "artificial" stuff or science, and I don't buy into any conspiracy theories. Honestly, we shouldn't be splitting things into natural vs. unnatural—it should just be good vs. bad. Not everything found in nature is actually good for you, either. I mean, marijuana is totally natural, yet look how some people react to it...

This sounds exactly like something I’d say👍

I have this friend who smokes like a chimney, drinks way too much, and lives on caffeine, but then she’ll be doubled over with cramps or a massive headache because she refuses to take an Advil. She’s all like, "No thanks, that’s not natural, it’s just chemicals..." Or she’ll be dealing with constipation for days but won't touch a Senna pill because she "doesn't do medicine—ever."
Thank God for modern medicine!

Kimberly Williams, I'm not even talking about your situation specifically since you actually stick to a healthy diet... but my mom is definitely one of those people who will drink her coffee black rather than use any kind of sweetener.

Man, I still remember how much of a nerve-wracker it was doing those microbe labs. We were messing around with stuff like anthracite back when that whole thing was blowing up in the news here in the States... but honestly, looking back at our school years, nobody actually got sick from anything (unless you count a two-year incubation period 😕). Plus, we weren't even wearing gloves because they never bothered to give us any 😠

Weight Loss Challenge... in Health ·
That zone sounds cool, but honestly? Way too complicated for my brain... 😁
For me, the big thing is not having to constantly obsess over what I’m allowed to eat or counting every single gram and calorie. If I start doing that, I spend my entire day thinking about food, and then weight loss just goes out the window.
And nothing can be totally off-limits, because if it is, that's exactly what I'll crave... someone mentioned avoiding bread entirely, but I don't even try that because my body just feels off, plus cutting out bread completely would basically drive me insane... 😳 ...but I always stick to whole grain or sourdough (I bake my own bread using a mix of flours exactly how I like it)... I haven't totally quit sweets either, because if I did, I'd become a danger to society! But if I have some chocolate while studying, I'll make sure to balance it out with a lunch of tomato salad, fresh cheese, slices of prosciutto (a huge bowl!), and a slice of bread, or maybe just a veggie soup.
Not mixing carbs and protein... I love cooking up two or three potatoes and eating them with fresh cheese. It's low calorie, super filling, and sits perfectly in my stomach—my body loves it.

What I totally stay away from... soda, chips, all those greasy burgers, and any kind of pastry made with processed white flour... basically anything that doesn't actually fill me up and just ends up sitting on my hips. 😁
I wouldn't hesitate to grab a homemade whole grain sandwich with salami at the university... I'll look like some hiker who just came down from the mountains after tending to sheep all day. 😁
I've learned to listen to my body and what it actually needs. Like, if someone tells me I can't eat more than 1200 calories but I'm starving, I'm eating 1800. My body asks for it, and I don't end up feeling stuffed or heavy afterward.

And obviously, staying active... that's the fun part because you can actually see the progress. You can literally feel your body "working" better.
When I first started, I could barely do 8 crunches... now I can knock out about 70 without even breaking a sweat.
There was no way I could touch the floor when I bent over... now I can put my palms on the ground without feeling that painful muscle stretch.
If I walked for more than 20 minutes back then, I'd be gasping for air like I was running a marathon, but now I spend hours hiking various mountain trails. The best part is I don't work out for super long or intense periods... just enough to challenge my body so it pushes its limits.

Seriously, I eat almost everything, but whenever I feel like my next bite is just for taste rather than actual hunger, I stop... and there's no more unbuttoning my pants after a meal or feeling sleepy.
Oh, and... someone mentioned cabbage soup. I have never tasted anything more disgusting in my life; I bet even the food in Australia tastes better than that. 😁 ---The mere thought of having to eat that just to lose weight makes me reject the whole idea of dieting.
Weight Loss Challenge... in Health ·
I mean, there’s no way she dropped 20 lbs just by walking her dog.
But you’re totally right—it’s so much harder when you're constantly obsessing over what you can or can't eat and counting every single calorie... I tried one of those crazy diets once and ended up gaining 4 lbs in a single month! I'd hold out all day, but then around 11 PM, I'd just lose it and raid the fridge...😁

So, I switched things up and started eating smaller meals more often (like 5 times a day), and I made sure to walk for at least 50 minutes daily (basically, I take the long way to catch the bus, which adds about 25 minutes to my commute). I stopped eating heavy stuff after 8 PM, though if I got super hungry, I'd just grab a bowl of carrots and an apple... Plus, I started waking up about 15 minutes earlier to do some morning workouts—abs and stuff. Those first seven days were brutal, my muscles were so sore I wanted to scream, but now I can't even imagine starting my day without it!
The worst part was definitely the first 20 days because I didn't see any progress at all. But since this lifestyle didn't feel like total torture, I stuck with it and the fat finally started melting away—slowly but surely (I lost about 2-3 lbs a month) and eventually dropped 10 lbs total.
That was two years ago and the weight hasn't come back...😎

The best part is that nothing is "off-limits"—it's just about controlling the portions... If I know I'm going to a birthday party tonight and I'm definitely going to demolish chocolate cake and some burgers or whatever, I'll just stick to salads for the rest of the day leading up to it. I just listen to my body and make sure I don't overdo it.
