Ring is better—though this one isn't exactly garbage either. My biggest gripe? There’s zero driving plot here. It lacks any real substance. Everything else holds up fine enough. It’s a damn shame the American remake still hasn't hit theaters.

IMO, no remake can ever touch the original—except maybe Ocean's Eleven I prefer it simply because I can't stand Japanese actors, the language, or that cheap production style... The Texas Chainsaw Massacre... the remake isn't even a bad movie, but the original is still my favorite.

The original Halloween is boring—the second one barely saves the concept, the third is completely irrelevant, and the rest are just unnecessary filler (though I've only actually seen the 6th or something, so maybe I'm not qualified to comment 😁). Then you have Halloween: 20 Years Later—which is just a convenient commercial extension that feels pretty monotonous compared to other modern slashers—and Halloween: Big Brother in the creepy house (where Jamie Lee Curtis dies in the stupidest way possible; they just extend the series so they can churn out another 30 sequels).
Freddy is overrated. The first one is decent, the second is mediocre, the third is okay, and they should have stopped right there—but they didn't, and that's the tragedy of Freddy Krueger and A Nightmare on Elm Street.
I love the Scream Trilogy.
Alien vs. Ash turned out alright. There were a million ways they could have botched it (some people will say they did! 😁)
Jason is incredibly monotonous. I watched two minutes of the second one before giving up. And I have zero interest in watching Jason.
The issue is that you go into a movie expecting something specific and immediately pigeonhole it into predefined patterns or genres.
Wrong Turn isn't horror, but it's a phenomenal thriller and I really dig it.
And did anyone mention The Exorcist? I wasn't particularly impressed (not even when the kid is freaking out with the cross and shouting, "Fuck me! Jesus, fuck me!"). It feels like the entire movie boils down to a guy sitting by a lamp in the dark, plus that terrible parody in Scary Movie 2 (which is a bad parody regardless!). Still, I might check out The Exorcist: The Beginning—some show recently got me interested in it 😁.
Unfortunately, I agree—Michael has BECOME pure commercial trash that just won't die. If the first Halloween was boring, then Scream is boring IMO. I don't get how you find Halloween boring but Scream entertaining... I saw Alien vs. Ash and now I'm worried that Freddy is also just commercial trash that refuses to die. As for Wrong Turn, I have nothing against it. It's fun and unobtrusive, but unfortunately, nothing special or groundbreaking. The Exorcist hit me HARD. Best movie ever, IMO. It’s about the struggle between good and evil, not some guy under a lamp lol. Please, DO NOT watch The Beginning or any of those garbage Exorcist sequels. 😉

The teenagers at the start felt pretty bland—totally lacking character compared to those two girls from the unit who were genuinely creepy (though, let's be honest, they were also attractive). That opening scene wraps up way too fast; it felt like a cheap imitation of the unit scene, just swapped for a guy and a girl. Throughout the rest of the movie, I noticed the director leans heavily on jump scares—which, in my opinion, is more irritating than actually terrifying. The whole film feels disorienting, hovering in this weird space between a dream and reality—something that didn't happen in the unit. Samara’s character is way too overbearing; it sounds ridiculous, but she reminds me of Freddy Krueger. A buddy of mine—who had already downloaded the film online a month ago—told me not to expect another "The Ring," but rather a story that might actually flesh out Samara. Looking back, he gave me solid advice. There are two scenes that actually hit the level of the original: the hospital scene (with the kid and the social worker) and the moment Samara crawls out of the well near the end. As for Scream—Wes Craven actually said it himself.
