Jesse Sanchez4, I have to be honest, I’m having a hard time following your logic here at all Is this forum actually going to hand over your username and registered address, or maybe even your AOL Instant Messenger info? Because in my experience, when people reach out to me on Skype, they just show up using their actual Skype handle
unless someone actually screws up, then suddenly everyone on the forum thinks they're responsible I think Brenda Cook4 hit the nail on the head with her point: if you’re dying to hand out your private email address to one specific person, nobody is standing in your way and stopping you from doing it. Sure, go ahead and post your photo or your bank account number too, if that's your thing... But there is a massive difference between that and making your phone number, email, or home address public for the whole world to see. A forum just can't really allow for that kind of selective privacy where you get to decide that saying "Person X is an idiot and will mess this up" is okay, while "Person Y is smart and knows what they're doing" is also fine.
feralpilot6 said:Some of us use a single email address for everything (like me), and obviously, I used that same one to sign up for this forum. Naturally, my full legal name is attached to it. And of course, any of you creeps can see it. So when a moderator reaches out via PM and addresses me as an actual person using my real name, what’s the deal? Who is actually protecting my privacy then? 🤷 There is a massive difference between voluntarily posting a photo or an email address and the other, shady stuff you guys have agreed to. If I decide to post pictures of my tits on this forum, that's my choice. Right?
It’s a total violation of privacy when someone starts addressing you by your legal name. But look, since you went ahead and put your name, your boobs, or whatever else out there in the public eye—well, that's on you. Then again, nobody can actually prove whether it was really your breasts, your name, or anything of the sort that you posted. By that same logic, you could just post someone else's email address and invite anyone who wants to f***ing sleep with them for free. What happens then? Just imagine some person who knows you and absolutely hates your guts posts your phone number claiming it's their own. That person is nothing more than a username on a forum, yet you'd be the one dealing with the fallout, likely blaming or even trying to sue the forum for harassment.
total bullshit from Anthony Collins4 I mean, seriously, the mods have access to everything—your photos, your home addresses, even the names of your pets—and on top of all that, they’re sitting there reading through your private messages, your emails, and your freaking bills
Yeah, look, it’s not just the banned users—it’s actually off-limits for every single person on this forum Dealing with private info is a massive minefield here, honestly
this whole thread ended up being basically just a glorified chat room, much like so many other threads on here and honestly, turning a forum into a space for aimless small talk is a terrible move if you actually value the forum as a distinct kind of medium
Look, we’ve already got a dedicated lounge area for hanging out and grabbing a coffee, so there really isn't any reason to clutter up every single corner of the entire forum with every random thought that happens to pop into someone's head
mistyhound94, did Tyndall give you any word on when you can actually reach out about appealing that partial ban? once that window opens up, we can finally start looking into it.
Yeah, the thing is, once you drop a post on a site like Reddit, you can't suddenly claim ownership and demand they delete it, try to charge you for using it, or start banning people from quoting you... that post belongs to Reddit. but, if I or anyone else actually published a book or ripped off your post and passed it off as our own work, you’d have every right to sue us for copyright infringement, because at the end of the day, it's your creation.
Technically, a forum might be the owner of some specific post or manifesto, but they don't actually hold the copyright I think it’s pretty easy to wrap your head around why things work that way without us having to dive into the weeds of every single individual case
Let’s just stick to the actual issues being discussed here on the forum rather than wandering off we all have that one acquaintance who is... yet somehow nobody ever specifies who this "someone" actually is or which specific group we're talking about and honestly, how exactly do you expect people to react when you won't even say who the target is?
Look, it’s a yellow card, which means they’re handing out warnings for a reason, and honestly, anyone with half a brain should take that as a sign to chill out but apparently, some people on here have done their own little math equations and decided that since a yellow card doesn't actually physically hurt, they can just keep doing whatever they want usually, when you see those one-day bans, there aren't even any warnings or cards involved, it just happens you know how the rules work around here—if you step over the line, you get tossed into the penalty box without any formal warning or second chances
It’s also entirely possible for every single one of you to be slapped with rape charges in real life and trust me, you aren't going to enjoy that even one bit.
That’s only possible in some perfect, theoretical vacuum, because you can't just look at one single variable in isolation and call it a day It’s way more common to run into someone spinning a yarn about how their buddies from the office or their college roommates wrote the post, or maybe it was their mom, or even the family cat... And honestly, if we’re being real, the fact that someone would even give their mother or a pet access to their personal account is a massive security red flag in itself But sure, let's just totally ignore the part where the cat is somehow more invested in national politics than in a thread about premium kibble or hunting season
