You can also just shoot a private message if you want, which then goes straight to the admins The thing is, you either report the post through the site's moderation tool or just hit up an admin via PM using this link

Every single lock can be justified if you look at it from a certain angle, but the real question is whether we want the moderators to act as the ultimate arbiters of when a conversation has lost its utility, or if they should let users talk their heads off while simply stepping in to clean up the trolls, spammers, and people drifting off-topic. Back in the day, the latter was actually how things functioned.
Honestly, wouldn't it be a much better move to just close a thread once the substance is gone and everyone's just talking nonsense? I mean, who actually benefits when a discussion devolves into a mess where mods are constantly deleting posts and handing out bans? It’s a lose-lose situation—it sucks for the community, it’s a headache for the moderators, and it’s especially bad for the newer users who haven't quite learned how to spot a troll or a spammer before getting caught in the crossfire.
It’s been received, applied, and officially awarded triangular_guy sent an application over to the subforum moderators, but since nothing’s popping up on my end, I figured I’d just go ahead and ask
😁 alright, if that’s really how things are playing out, I guess I'll be spending some quality time digging through the FBI's files over the next few days nobody actually wants to see threads getting locked for no damn reason
Lisa Hernandez3, I suppose that kind of logic works fine in your neck of the woods, but if you tried that on other parts of this forum, people would immediately see right through it as just another desperate attempt to blame the mods and play the victim

Nah, I don't think it's strictly necessary. The whole issue of how a post looks or whether the quality is up to par is really on the user, not the moderators. If someone posts something that's total gibberish, you can just delete it without a second thought, or honestly, just leave it there because most people are smart enough to just scroll right past it anyway. Sure, mods have the ability to edit, but they should probably use that tool as little as possible. Even if you're just fixing a couple of line breaks or a tiny grammatical slip-up, you're basically handing ammunition to some malicious user who wants to start a rumor that a "power-tripping" moderator is out to destroy their literary masterpiece. Sadly, I've even heard stories about mods editing a post just to make it look like the user was being offensive, using it as an excuse to hand out a ban. So yeah, having good intentions doesn't always cut it when things get messy.
dustypuma5, seriously, give the melodrama a rest, will you? you aren't going to impress anyone with this act. I spent some time today reading through the entire thread, and honestly, I think the moderators did a stellar job, especially when it comes to keeping things from spiraling out of control. They even left in a few posts that probably would have been nuked under different circumstances, but because they’re woven into the responses, deleting them would just gut the whole discussion and wipe out a bunch of solid content that actually helps clear up the confusion people were having.
as you can clearly see—things have shifted a bit here 🙂 look, locking a thread is an inevitable tool for any moderator to have in their kit, whether it’s just a temporary fix to clean up a messy conversation or a permanent way to stop people from beating a dead horse, much like we're seeing in this specific case it honestly makes zero sense to let a thread stay wide open when everyone starts circling the wagons and attacking one another, just collecting digital reprimands and bans left and right, especially since the original poster has already checked out and stopped contributing nearly as much substance as they did when this all kicked off if the discussion had actually gained some momentum and started heading somewhere productive, then shutting it down would be counterproductive, but as it stands, a thread that has lost its purpose is, err, just pointless

But hey, if you want to play it that way, fine—you're a grown adult, so I'll respect your wish to leave your posts untouched from here on out.
Ryan Vaughn7 and the rest of the mod team: listen, can we all just agree not to touch anyone's posts unless they're leaking private info or posting something actually dangerous or harmful? If a post contains something inappropriate, it gets deleted, period, but it’s really on the person writing it to make sure they don't post garbage in the first place. Even if you mean well, micromanaging people's edits just isn't good practice.
The images look perfectly fine to me They’re a tiny bit larger, sure, but they aren't going to stretch out the page layout or mess with anyone's ability to navigate the site any more than those random, pointless chat posts already do
wiredviper said:How am I supposed to stay calm when the goalposts keep moving every single time? It’s pretty obvious—one minute they tell you one thing, then the second you actually start following those rules, they pivot and hit you with a penalty. And honestly, I’m not just talking about this specific thread; I mean, how are you even supposed to participate on Reddit at all if the rules change mid-game?
What do you mean, "different rules"? Are you seriously under the impression you got flagged just because you were chatting with another user on here? You didn't; you got flagged because you wouldn't let the subject drop, and frankly, you would have run into the same wall even if you had directed that energy toward the author instead. That’s usually what happens once a discussion hits a dead end, which is precisely why the mods decided to lock the thread.
Give it a rest, seriously, this whole thread died out the day before yesterday because it just turned into a massive circlejerk of pure boredom and stupidity. If we're talking about what the future actually holds, it’s basically just going to be people bickering over trivial nonsense until they start scavenging through cardboard boxes in the streets. Everything has already been dissected, debated, and questioned at least five times over.
tsk tsk, we aren't exactly big fans of cloning over here I honestly have this nagging fear that every single conversation eventually spirals right back to that exact same point
Can we get something actually substantial here? Like, maybe some specifics on those mother figures, or just throw out another link or an actual example?
