Which ones? When you're looking at things from the American perspective, the whole landscape looks different The viewpoint and political agenda coming out of Mexico is really something that concerns people living in Mexico, I suppose.
Daniel Ward87, you’re totally missing the mark here. If someone actually wants to be taken seriously instead of just shouting into the void, they have an obligation to back up their claims with actual evidence. You can't just toss out theories without any foundation; if you don't ground your arguments in something real, people are perfectly justified in calling you out for trolling or straight-up lying.
These are topics specifically about America, so I'm not sure why you're acting surprised. The way Mexico decides to handle its relationship with some third party isn't really something that belongs in this discussion.
dustypuma5 said:But that doesn't even apply to politics. I guess if you just leave a troll hanging, that's basically all there'll be left on the thread. 😁
And honestly, what is a moderator even supposed to do with a thread where someone drops one single provocative comment and the next forty posts are just a chaotic mess of insults, personal attacks, and endless bickering? If they delete it, everyone complains it was unfair; if they leave it up, it's a disaster; and if they start handing out bans, you lose the one provocateur and ten totally innocent people who just happened to take the bait... 😁
I always give this same bit of advice to anyone who lets themselves get worked up over being pushed to "troll bait" or who just sits there letting some random person derail the entire conversation So far, this has been my go-to strategy for two very specific reasons: 1. It leaves the troll shouting into the void, which effectively strips them of any relevance while simultaneously protecting the rest of the community from getting caught up in the drama or facing accidental bans 2. It actually allows the discussion to stay focused on what we were talking about in the first place rather than devolving into nonsense.
I honestly can’t wrap my head around how this topic even belongs on a forum like this, let alone what it has to do with anything we actually talk about here.
Look, this whole topic is a total mess, and honestly, both sides have basically retreated to their own little corners to dig their heels in. It’s actually wild to me how people can just completely derail a thread like this, pivoting away from the actual point to argue about something totally trivial or just plain irrelevant.
If you ask me, the moderators have actually done a pretty solid job keeping things under control here.
Culture isn't going extinct, and it’s certainly not a sign of weakness 🙂 On the contrary, people tend to fall into this trap of thinking that "culture" or basic decency only exists when someone polite is present to buffer the rude ones, or when you're forced to tolerate the obnoxious But that's not how it works; true decorum is actually about demanding—not asking, mind you, but demanding—that the rude individuals clear out and stop being an eyesore Because at its core, etiquette is just a shared playbook for how to act when you're stuck sharing the same space with a bunch of other people
Given that we live in a society where we're effectively forced to inhabit the same crowded environments, learning how to behave isn't optional; it's a necessity The only real question left is how long this learning curve is going to take, and whether we'll choose the path of least resistance or the hard way
When you’re hanging out with decent people, it’s just common sense to act like one and keep the conversation classy 🙂 And honestly, showing a shred of respect for the people around you isn't exactly rocket science; it means not standing right in the middle of a sidewalk, not blocking an accessible entrance for someone in a wheelchair, and not screaming into your phone while you're packed into a subway car...
But since we live in a world where expecting basic manners feels like chasing some impossible utopia, I guess you have to learn how to speak other "languages"—different ways of handling things—which unfortunately sometimes includes the one language only the most primitive types seem to understand: raw, blunt force.
Phoenix was handed a golden ticket that absolutely nobody else has been given even though there’s a permanent ban on his account, we actually let him keep his own thread just so he could write in it but apparently, that wasn't enough of a deterrent for him to stop creating clones of himself just to jump back into Politics and well, since everything in life eventually hits a wall, patience and tolerance aren't any different, and now Phoenix has joined the ranks of everyone else who simply lacks the basic ability to communicate on a platform like this
Well, looks like the thread got nuked, along with the author, who apparently couldn't figure out how to follow basic rules or honor a simple agreement for more than five minutes
Drew Gomez, you're more than welcome to go ahead and set up a new account there’s actually no need to shut this one down, provided you don't try to run both identities simultaneously in the same threads
Olivia Mendoza35, honestly, why does it even matter which moderator hands out a ban, provided they actually have a legitimate reason for doing it? It’s the same deal if the ban is unjustified—you just push back, and eventually, it gets overturned, regardless of which mod was behind it in the first place.
I didn't quite follow what you were getting at regarding the PM situation, so I'm going to need you to clear that up for me.
Look, let's skip the small talk, please hollowdriver18, look, politics here is basically stuck under the mortgage of some crazy house, so everything just happens all at once in volumes that the mods simply can't keep up with cleaning up we're actually working on getting rid of that mortgage right now, and once we do, politics will finally live up to its actual name, and the partisans and the rest of them can go back to the woods where they belong obviously, we aren't going to, and can't, ban anyone from coming to the Reddit, but I totally agree that things should be based on topics we actually care about, rather than using this place as a playground for people to bicker over stuff like Americans fighting with Albanians or debates that have nothing to do with American politics
