driftingeagle27, honestly, this constant bickering with everyone and your endless whining is getting a little old, don't you think? if you actually have a point to make, then just say it. and as for the "quality" here—if what you’re presenting is our standard—thanks, but we really don't need it.
the moderators are volunteers; they spend their time cleaning things up and trying to make this Reddit a decent place for all of us to hang out. if a mod isn't online, any user can always reach out to a supermoderator or an admin with a complaint. besides, the quality of the content depends entirely on the users themselves, including what kind of topics get started and how those discussions actually play out. all a moderator can do is hand out warnings or bans to bad posts and toxic users; they can't magically turn people into sophisticated thinkers or high-level debaters. these kinds of sweeping, blanket judgments lead absolutely nowhere and serve no purpose other than to give airtime to people who complain the moment they get flagged for breaking the rules of the community or basic etiquette. if you want something changed, put a specific issue on the table and we'll see what can be done about it. writing like this—just being vague and generalizing everything—isn't right, and it certainly isn't fair to the people who actually dedicate their time and effort to this place.
Yeah, look, if you’ve got something to complain about, this is the spot for it, not some random thread where it doesn't belong And honestly, I’d suggest sticking to the explanations a bit more if anyone feels they're needed—it never hurts to be thorough, right? Besides, telling someone they wrote something stupid isn't exactly the same thing as calling them an idiot
Jason Campbell70, and based on what exactly am I supposed to take a penalty for? The mod issues a warning and then, just four minutes later, you’re right back at it acting like absolutely nothing happened.
Well, damn, she’s actually gone I’m assuming the sysadmin grabbed her for some routine maintenance or whatever, though I certainly didn't get a single heads-up about it.
ondine , I can see the deleted posts 🙂 and honestly , I don't have the bandwidth to keep up with every single thread popping up on this forum anyway , nor do I particularly feel the need to that whole bit where stefy is talking to someone else is strictly between her and that person , so it's none of our business if you’re under the impression that a post is out of line , you're more than welcome to hit that legendary little report button and move on... what we actually have ground to cover is the drama between you and stefy and that suspension you ended up getting I've already given you my two cents on that matter , and if you're feeling unsatisfied , feel free to go ask tyndall for his take instead
Look, I wasn't targeting you specifically or anyone else for that matter; I’m talking about the underlying principle here. If the mods start micromanaging everyone's word count or dissecting exactly how people phrase things just to decide whether to hand out sanctions for "inappropriate" behavior—well, I think you can probably wrap your head around how much drama and tension that would stir up in a community.
As far as my own take goes, I actually agree with your point regarding that specific debate, but I really can't get behind the way you handled yourself during the discussion. The thing is, you were the one who displayed a total lack of experience, which is exactly why Shefty hit back with that "you don't know what you're talking about" type of attitude. Then, in your next post, instead of sticking to the topic at hand, you bypassed the argument entirely and went straight for the person you were talking to, and that's precisely when the moderator had to step in. You’re the one who ended up with a warning, while Shefty didn't, simply because she refused to sink to that level and match your energy. In my book, that is a textbook case for a warning, and honestly, most moderators in any US forum would hand one out in a situation just like this.
As of this very moment, I’m officially declaring the descriptive phase over and done with, so from here on out, please just stick to the cold, hard facts accompanied by a direct link.
Jamie Chase6, look, this whole thing is pretty straightforward and honestly doesn't have much to do with your specific forum pedigree if "gestures" were actually an exception rather than just a blatant way to inflate post counts—you know, those endless pages filled with nothing but emojis and random pictures—then we wouldn't even need a formal rule to begin with unfortunately, people took advantage of the freedom provided, which resulted in this irritating trend of posting nothing but smiley faces, eventually forcing us to implement a rule stating that trolls have absolutely nothing of value to contribute to a discussion that rule was established quite some time ago, and frankly, I’m struggling to understand why you’re making such a big deal out of it it's also beyond me why you're acting surprised when you get flagged for trolling, especially when you resort to debating tactics that were basically tossed aside in Ancient Greece—you know, using ad hominem attacks against people instead of actually addressing their arguments
I really have no interest in getting personal with you, particularly since you're one of the veteran members here, but I genuinely don't see what your end goal is right now, it feels like you're trying to argue that long-time members should be exempt from discipline, as if seniority somehow places you above the standard community guidelines because if your point is that things used to be different back in the day—well, sure, things were different, but that era passed, and there was a very good reason for it
Furthermore, focusing all your energy on picking at the person rather than actually addressing the topic is just straight-up trolling. The mods let him get away with a certain amount of it, I suppose, but once he starts getting condescending, insulting, or just plain argumentative, that’s when they really need to step in and do their jobs.
Jamie Chase6, you're out here making all these sweeping judgments about people you don't even know. Don't you think it's a little arrogant to put yourself on this pedestal and then proceed to pass judgment on everyone else? If the moderators acted like that—punishing people just because they aren't personally "likable" in their eyes—it would be incredibly unprofessional and, frankly, pretty pathetic.
no Nick, there’s actually some logic to this, and honestly, it isn't the first time someone has floated the idea of spinning off a subforum under Religion it’s just that you know how things go—good intentions alone don't cut it, and we all know exactly where that road leads (especially over in the Religion section) 🙂 don't get it twisted and think anyone is just afraid of change or making things better; it's more about actually having a coherent vision for what happens once we take that leap personally, I can't even wrap my head around what people would actually debate in an Atheism subforum, and frankly, I haven't seen a single proposal that doesn't fall completely flat if we were to actually separate the atheists from the theists
Good grief Look, Nick, if you want to report a post, you need to go talk to the moderators over in the religion subforum We’re dealing with a completely different topic here, and we're just trying to figure out if there's actually any substance behind what the OP is proposing
nah, listen, atheism doesn't even make sense without theism to push against 🙂 it’s not some separate set of beliefs that can just exist on its own, totally detached from the other side
So, what exactly would atheists even have to talk about on a subforum like that?? 🙂 Would it just end up looking identical to any other religion, except everything is just written with a negative slant?
