Is it legal to use a single signature on a PDF? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
feralranger, you're really laying it on thick, man, for crying out loud.
I mean, people tell you all the time that you just can't take something as subjective as morality and try to cram it into a legal framework. It doesn't work.

If we actually wanted to get somewhere, we should be looking at which specific paragraphs apply to the issue at hand and then doing a real analysis of whether the process was effective or useless, good or bad.
And while we're on the subject, it would be pretty eye-opening to see just how convoluted, murky, and occasionally downright nonsensical our legal system is—it practically contradicts itself half the time.

But this stuff you keep droning on about? Honestly, it has nothing to do with the law; it’s just political propaganda.
Or let me put it another way: if we’re going to talk about morality, how "moral" is it to dodge your responsibilities and try to screw over the system?

Honestly, you guys really should have moved this whole debate over to the legal subforum, because if you had, we wouldn't even be cluttering up the main board with this topic right now

Let’s just take a second to think about this—how many threads would actually exist on a site like Reddit if crimsonsailor7 and Brian Edwards6 were the ones running the moderation?

"We all know exactly where things would head and what kind of arguments we'd be stuck having."
😁

Yeah, sure, "law is specific"...
If that were actually the case, we wouldn't even need lawyers or judges in the first place.
You could just cram a computer full of data, upgrade Drot into some kind of Judge Dredd, and suddenly everything would be easy and simple.

Hmm, except it isn't, so I have to wonder who actually made things this complicated just so they could rake in the cash and climb the career ladder?
And honestly, which sub-forum would we even use to debate that??

crimsonsailor7 said:You just don't get it. Not every single topic deserves a massive debate covering everything under the sun, especially if it isn't strictly tied to legal matters. If the Politics section is for politics talk about politics, and Fashion is for fashion about fashion, why can't Law be limited to just law?

That’s because, Katherine, we are on an internet forum, not at Harvard Law School. People here AREN'T freaking lawyers!!
I honestly don't know how hard it is for that simple fact to finally sink in.

The vast majority of people here are just regular folks who probably won't even encounter the legal system until some government agency decides to hammer them over the head with a lawsuit.
And usually, that's exactly when they start feeling like they've been wronged or like they're victims of some broken system—and that is precisely when it should be possible, through actual logical argumentation and discussion, to reach what the previous guy was talking about: a real solution.
Because the "solution" isn't just telling someone, "Too bad, that's the law," it should be making sure that individual—and everyone else watching—actually understands why a rule was written in one specific way instead of any of the five other ways it could have been.
But instead of having specific threads for certain issues in a Q&A format, you guys have decided that one topic is this huge, monumental thing, while dumping everything else into a giant, messy "General Discussion" pile that is basically unreadable and totally nonsensical.

You can view the law as nothing more than a collection of dusty, boring textbooks and dry, lifeless jargon, or you can see it as something genuinely fascinating—something that actually possesses sense, logic, and underlying reasons.

For instance, why shouldn't an online community like this be a place where an initiative starts to push back against a bad or idiotic law?
Why couldn't a legal forum serve as a starting point for debating the change of a stupid traffic sign?
Why couldn't we discuss why the police, say, act like power-tripping thugs instead of actually focusing on road safety and removing the people who truly obstruct traffic, rather than just coldly and bureaucratically pulling someone over and handing them a ticket on a road where everyone is already driving over the limit?
Why shouldn't we debate the practice of giving a drunk driver a ticket and then just letting them drive away? Whose responsibility is it if they kill someone a block down the road?
Do judges and lawyers make mistakes, and if so, what kind?
Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera...

No, of course not; it's much easier to take this high-and-mighty stance and defend the idea that people only come here to ask questions, acting like anyone who dares to say anything else is just disrupting the "sacred moderator peace" of the Law section.

I’d honestly ask if you’re just playing dumb for my benefit, but I think it’s probably safer if I don't go there...

Anyway, I’ve already laid out my side of things, and frankly, I feel like I’ve rehashed this whole saga more than enough times to be considered an expert on my own history
Yeah, fine, the other guys on here are just noise, you’re the one stepping in to enforce order and peace—even if it feels a bit like a graveyard in here sometimes—so I get the picture

Look, honestly, using that tired old line about how a "topic isn't serving its purpose" is exactly why you and Katherine are completely failing as moderators here.
Are you guys seriously going to keep up this pathetic routine of just screaming "fooooooooruuuuuummmmmm" at everyone?

For crying out loud, go open up a hotline and solve people's problems alongside some psychic palm readers if you aren't actually capable of following a conversation or contributing to a real discussion.

Look, the whole debate over underage pornography online is such a perfect example of you talking out of your ass about a subject you clearly don't grasp just so you can play defender for "the administration."
And I'm not saying that because I got banned, though I did get kicked out—but I got kicked out because I finally lost my patience with your attitude, and I really hope you can wrap your head around the distinction there.

Besides, why shouldn't we be pointing out inappropriate symbols when they pop up?
Why shouldn't we actually discuss them, lay out the reasoning, and establish the standards for how things should be handled?
Then there’s probably a dozen other things people are clueless about that could actually benefit from some clear explanation.
Every time you guys move a discussion, you just dump it into some mindless thread that’s basically unreadable because it's such a mess.
That's exactly why I said this sub is suffering from pure laziness and a bureaucratic mindset, which, to put it mildly, is an absolute disaster for a community like this.

crimsonsailor7🤦 , what exactly do you think you're saying here
nobody on this board is out here defending trolling, insults, or spamming
those are just some of those little narratives you and your crowd love to spin, though I honestly don't have the energy right now to sit here and write a whole dissertation on where those delusions come from

for instance, what Anthony posted wasn't some attempt at trolling; it was just pointing out a situation that’s happened in other places before
and frankly, there isn't a single logical reason why we shouldn't be discussing it or comparing how different laws and practices work in various cases, much like any other topic we tackle
if you two really believe everything has to be strictly limited to a rigid question-and-answer format, then maybe go ahead and start your own consulting firm—who knows, you might actually make a buck off it
because what you're doing right now? This isn't a forum!!

Alright, I might be drifting a bit off-topic here, but let me throw an illustration your way just to make the point:
if there’s a sign posted stating a speed limit of 35 mph, and someone rolls through that stretch at 50 mph, they’ve technically broken the law—it’s black and white, plain and simple.
But honestly, why aren't we actually debating whether that speed limit even makes sense in the first place, especially when it's a stretch of road where almost everyone is naturally cruising at 50 without any real issue?
Is there actually a legitimate way to get those limits changed?
And how righteous is it for traffic to flow smoothly, only for a highway patrol officer to pull over every hundredth driver just to hand out a ticket??

There is absolutely plenty of meat on the bone for a real discussion here, provided we let people who actually grasp the nuances of the law speak up, rather than just listening to folks who blindly follow whatever they're told without using a single brain cell.

Daniel Ward87, I hear you, don't sweat it
I’m posting this as someone who’s been banned or suspended more times than I care to admit, just a guy who's fed up with seeing every single decent discussion get shut down before it can even breathe.
Look, it happens—Brian Edwards6 might drop some misinformation or just be completely clueless about a topic, but he acts like he's some high-ranking official defending the reputation of the police or the entire government establishment.

I couldn't care less about how the problem gets fixed; I'm just pointing out that it exists, and honestly, I'm far from the only one noticing it.
Since PDF is technically considered one of the more level-headed ones, it’s hard to believe the admins haven't caught onto this yet, which probably explains why things have spiraled into this incredibly dry, bureaucratic mess.
At the end of the day, a forum is meant for people to actually talk to one another first and foremost; a Q&A service is more of a secondary perk, if it even exists at all.

Daniel Ward87, this whole legal mess has been dragging on for years now
The constant shutting down of any real debate, combined with moderator laziness and pure arrogance, is just a persistent fixture here
It’s obviously easier to just set these incredibly narrow boundaries where they can simply delete posts and hand out bans
Besides, I don't see what the big deal is when someone tries to explain a law or argue the logic behind an action, right??
People aren't machines, and if there's a statute out there that doesn't make sense to them, you can't seriously expect them to view it as valid or respect it
The media blows everything out of proportion, lawyers just look to line their own pockets, and judges take the path of least resistance by ruling based on those interests...
If public discourse gets stifled on top of all that—the end result is nothing short of state terror, and we'll all have to live with whatever chaos follows
Do we really need both admins and moderators? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Hey, how’s it going...
if you ask me, that right there is exactly where the weakest link in this whole forum management situation lies.
Do we really need both admins and moderators? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
shouldn't the superadmins be the ones actually serving this purpose?
I can see you’ve been handed a pretty sharp and intelligent response here
Now, I’m not trying to throw any shade or imply anything specific, but maybe that’s actually where the issue lies?
Or is it possible you’re just digging your heels in and refusing to grasp what the person is actually telling you?

I recently got slapped with a seven-day ban just for sharing my thoughts on Greenlander, so I’m not about to waste my breath repeating myself here
😬
I guess I'll just take this opportunity to politely ask the admin team to carry out a little bit of a sanitary purge

One should always strive for constant improvement, I suppose,
but I’m part of the past now, and regardless of how things shake out in the future, it won't have anything to do with me.
The same goes for these recent events—at least, I wasn't the one pulling the strings or footing the bill, nor was I involved in any behind-the-scenes negotiations with anyone.
Sorry, but I’m still perfectly capable of speaking my mind independently and addressing whoever I feel needs to hear it.

Is driftingeagle27 someone who would actually take my side??
😁
Me, taking sides??
Look, I’m sorry if I come across that way to anyone, but honestly, that isn't even remotely what I'm getting at or what the point is here.

Sandra Gonzalez3 said:So now that everything's been double-checked and we know what's actually true... are they gonna strip that user of those 35 points he got right off the bat for asking "Was that fun for you?"... seriously...

I certainly hope not, because honestly, I don't think those points were even relevant to the thread, let alone particularly useful for anything else either.

rustydrifter10 said:Look, the post was flagged and taken down. But let's be real: sometimes we just can't tell if someone is making things up on the fly or not. We can strongly suspect a story is fabricated, but usually, suspicion alone isn't enough to hand out a sanction. If a user had provided a link to another one of the author's posts proving this whole situation was made up, we would've handled it completely differently. Moderators don't go digging through a user's entire posting history just to fact-check every single claim unless it's one of those really extreme cases.

No, it wasn't that; it was because of that "complete idiot" comment. I'll admit, at first glance, I wasn't even sure if she was targeting the author or someone else, but I eventually decided it was an insult and acted accordingly. Honestly, looking at it again, I'm having second thoughts 🙈, so I think I'm going to go ahead and rescind that warning. My apologies if I overstepped there.

Thanks, I honestly think I just misread the situation earlier
I appreciate you taking another look at it
