Honestly, I’m pretty stunned by McLaren's current form—I mean, I always knew they were either going to make a massive leap forward or completely blow it, and knowing how things usually go at McLaren, the odds were definitely stacked toward them messing up. Now, we actually have a legitimate shot at the championship, and it's all down to us—provided Lewis Hamilton stays focused and keeps his head on straight out there 👍

As for Senna and the concrete, I don't know, though I have heard that story before.
And regarding Nuvolari, he competed in over ten races while nursing various injuries. Since he used to race motorcycles before moving to cars, there was one instance where he competed right after a massive crash. I don't know exactly what was broken, but he couldn't even get onto the bike himself; others had to hoist him on and lift him off once the race ended. Then there was the podium presenter with a broken arm, the driver racing without a steering wheel (he actually held it in one hand while using the other to steer via a bar), and plenty of other fascinating tales.

Neither Kaj nor Webber were driving through broken bones—just that time they wiped out on their bikes, so really, no big deal.🤣

As for that Senna bit 🙏 🙏 🙏 (😁)

Since everyone seems to be having such a grand time with this, it might be useful to have some kind of scoreboard—just to track how many cards the believers hand out versus the atheists 😛

Honestly, you both look ridiculous—just total amateurs, if I'm being honest about the teams you support 😁

They held everything in their hands, much like Ferrari did yesterday.

And they chose what was best for the team.

Did anyone lose out? No.

I have to say, I am eagerly anticipating the final races of the season.

It’s going to be a dark comedy listening to the excuses race engineers cook up to explain away slowing down or letting someone through. 🤣

So far, we've heard "oil pressure" and "fuel saving." 🎉

This subforum is basically full of conspiracy theorists—last year, everyone was convinced every new user was some kind of bot, though they couldn't even agree on whose clone it actually was.

It seems this year, everyone is obsessed with finding hidden team orders in every single radio transmission.

Look, just tell me—if Sebastian Vettel is sitting in 3rd, five seconds back, while Mark Webber is in 6th, over twenty seconds behind him, but right on the heels of Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton... what's the point of slowing down for Vettel? Isn't the actual goal to take points away from McLaren and close that gap?

Whether it's the last race or not, it's obvious Massa has no shot at the title. He can pad his win count or his total points, but hey, he's part of Ferrari, and Ferrari is here strictly for the championship.
Every single race matters for the title, whether it's the first one or the last.

It's just easier to see clearly once the season starts winding down.

It isn't exactly common.

Senna - Prost, back in '89—and we all know how peacefully that ended. 😁
Then maybe '96, which ended with a wheel flying off. The result of all that "teamwork"? Who knows.🤷

For example—in 2008, Kovalainen clearly let Hamilton past several times without even fighting. The result? A few extra points for Hamilton, and ultimately, Hamilton wins the championship by a single point. Can we call Hockenheim 2008 a key race of that season?

😁

Why wouldn't you bring up 2007, when Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton finished 2nd and 3rd—basically stripping points from one another—only for them both to end up with 109 while Kimi took it with 110?

Maybe McLaren managed to pull the wool over your eyes with their little games, but I guess it didn't work on me. 😬

And honestly, the idea that you have to be caught red-handed to be considered guilty isn't even legally sound. There's such a thing as a preponderance of evidence, which essentially constitutes proof. 😁

They were caught, more than once.

It’s not that they were ''caught,'' it’s more like they weren't even trying to hide. 🤷 They did openly what we all know everyone else does behind closed doors. 🤷

In my book, a person who openly admits they're a jerk isn't any less 'immoral' than someone pretending to be a saint while everyone on the block knows they're anything but. 😬

Gossip and hearsay simply aren't the same thing as hard evidence.

In Turkey, Vettel was clearly faster than Webber, but there was total radio silence. Vettel just pins the throttle—way harder than Alonso was doing behind Massa—creeps up on Webber's rear end, practically swallows him whole, and boom, they collide. (Okay, maybe Vettel went left while Webber went right, but still.)

Then you've got Alonso catching up to Massa and pushing hard, but he can't get past him and eventually gives up. Of course, he’s probably got some cell phone tucked in his suit with an earpiece, so he yells "Montezemolo" into it. He dials a number a few times, but it's busy—probably some old guy rambling away with Charlie.🤷 The phone rings again and finally someone picks up. Alonso says, "Tell Massa I'm faster." A few minutes of silence pass, then they call Massa over the radio to explain what happened and how much slower he actually is compared to Alonso. Alonso really wanted to make sure everyone knew just how fast he was.

Meanwhile, in Turkey, Button was noticeably faster than Hamilton. He catches him and breezes past. Hamilton shouts "Dennis!" into his headset, and the phone rings immediately. Dennis answers instantly, and Hamilton tells him, "Explain to Janson that I'm faster and that he's going to run out of fuel if he doesn't get out of my slipstream." They relay the message to Button over the radio, and Hamilton pulls back ahead.

The point of this story: Vettel, Button, Webber, and Massa desperately need cell phones.🤣
Or maybe we should just ban phones in F1 cars altogether.🤣

Amanda Kelly said:I can totally see why everyone is venting right now, especially over in the McLaren camp.

Like you said, McLaren is leading in basically every category, yet you've suddenly dropped to having only the third-fastest car. That's a weird way for things to turn out.
Now that Ferrari pulled off that 1-2 finish, McLaren is suddenly sitting there with just one decent car for the whole championship.
But when you guys were dominating with those 1-2 finishes, you were bragging about that exact same car.
And all this time, you've been constant critics of Ferrari's tech, their organization, and everything else.

Now that you actually have nothing but the third-best car, it’s no wonder you're all spiraling.
One thing people are glossing over here is how much ground Ferrari gained today.

Alonso ended up finishing 25 seconds ahead of Hamilton. If he hadn't been held up, it probably would've been another 10 seconds on top of that.
Being 35-40 seconds ahead over 67 laps means they were faster by more than half a second per lap. That’s huge. Honestly, I’d be worried too.

Hmm, I doubt we were ever bragging about the car at McLaren—it was always pretty obvious that Red Bull had us beat. We were bragging about our drivers' smart driving, and honestly, today was no exception; the guys pushed it to the absolute limit.

Right now, we are indeed the third car on the grid, but let's not forget that even Ferrari was third—if not worse—during those first few races after they introduced the new diffuser, failing to score a single point in some of them.

Like I said before, during those first couple of races while we wait for the diffuser to settle in properly, it's purely about damage control. Today, we handled that perfectly, and Hamilton actually widened his gap over third place. As for Button, I'm not losing any sleep over him; I wouldn't be any happier or sadder if he took the title.

Ferrari looked incredibly strong today, but I suspect it comes down to the track configuration and the fact that they were over half a second faster than McLaren in the third sector.

We have another tough weekend ahead in Canada. That race will likely be another exercise in damage control—just trying to extract as much data as possible regarding the car and the diffuser. If we execute that well, we shouldn't lose our grip on either championship.

It's a shame Hamilton wrecked the car, and the rain didn't exactly help us when it came to testing the diffuser and dialing in the setup.

It is interesting to note that we were better than Webber today, whereas in the last race, Lewis couldn't even get close to him.

The duo from Ferrari and Red Bull can't stand each other privately, which makes them way more interesting to watch...🙂

Lewis Hamilton being "sweet"... somebody just shoot me.😁

Yeah, sure, they're great guys... until they aren't.🙂 Then we'll all have a good time dealing with the fallout regarding that.🙏 😬

Have you seen that clip where Hamilton basically mocks Jenson Button and the British Royal Family?😁

Or even the one where they're racing remote-control cars—Hamilton spins out, and then Button comes flying in with that "you're flying toward Mark Webber" comment.

cosmicridge5 said:Wasn't your mother able to teach you that resorting to personal attacks when you lack actual arguments is just a sign of weakness and poor manners? 🙂

Look, I know it might be hard for you to accept, but if we're talking about pure raw speed, Lewis Hamilton is the best driver out there right now.

Raw speed doesn't really do it for me, 😳 and I don't think that's quite what defines the best driver. 🤷 I suppose there are several other components that need to come together—which isn't exactly the case with Lewis; he lacks a bit of that Jenson Button quality, for instance—to actually call a driver "complete." And in my opinion, that "completeness" is what makes someone the best. I think I already touched on this in the thread about Ivan Gumbek, so I won't repeat myself. 😁 😁

Besides, today Jenson Button finished 6th behind Mark Webber, while Hamilton was 4th. Don't you think it's possible that Button just burned through too much fuel trying to chase down times that would have put him ahead of Webber after the pits?

No, I'm sure it's all just a setup. 🙄

Come on, don't be ridiculous; just ask if you don't understand. 😁 I wasn't referring to today; I was talking about fuel conservation during the race in Turkey. 😍

You were actually the first one to start throwing insults because you accused McLaren of fixing races—equating that to today's situation without any real evidence. My responses are simply a reflection of my ability to adapt to the tone and match your lack of logic.

Furthermore, sometimes Hamilton is better and sometimes it's Button—I don't see an issue with that, nor is there any proof that one is being favored over the other.

And what was the point of Turkey? When they were running 1-2, why would they bother racing each other when those points aren't even decisive this early in the championship? It seems foolish for them to try and overtake one another at all.

I have to say—even Michael Schumacher didn't lack grit the way Alonso does today.

Back when he had those nasty leg injuries, he wasn't too proud to step back and play second fiddle to Eddie Irvine. The man showed real backbone—something I honestly doubt Alonso could ever manage.

Thinking about it now, compared to the bunch of amateurs running around the grid lately, Schumacher’s mistakes seem almost trivial. It makes him one of my favorite, most respectable figures in the sport. 👍

Lewis could've passed him just like everyone else, but instead this guy just moves out of the way and lets him through.🤷

Come on, man—tell me why Heikki Kovalainen at Hockenheim, immediately after yielding to Lewis without even a fight, also moved away from Nick Heidfeld without any struggle at all?

cosmicridge5 said:Come on, don't be naive. Just because you didn't HEAR them giving orders doesn't mean things aren't being rigged in Lewis's favor. I mean, just look at how much better they prep Lewis's car for qualifying while Gumbek gets left in the dust 🙂 or how suddenly he runs out of fuel the second Gumbek finds his rhythm and starts breathing down Hemić's neck 🤣. And just because you haven't read about Button being the number two driver in the papers or heard it from Button himself, doesn't prove anything 😁. Just because you can't see the ocean from your window doesn't mean it isn't there 😬.

During those first four races, Lewis was finishing behind Jenson Button

Exactly!! And they're still favoring Hemoš regardless! It's disgusting 😁

Good grief, please—don't just lash out for the sake of lashing out simply to defend Alonso. Hamilton completely totaled his car the day before yesterday and they barely managed to get it back together; you'd think he'd struggle against Button, yet he was still faster in qualifying. I know that might be hard for you to swallow, but looking at pure, raw speed, Hamilton is the best driver on the grid today.

Besides, Button finished 6th today behind Mark Webber, while Hamilton took 4th—don't you think it's possible that Button simply burned through too much fuel trying to chase times that would have put him ahead of Webber after the pit stops?

No, I'm sure it's all a conspiracy 🙄

Hmm, true—but at the press conference, Kimi Räikkönen just smiled and said he did the best he could. He didn't pull a face or refuse to comment—he didn't act insulted or robbed.

Nancy Scott5 said:The answer is the day before.

It’s just that we didn't have team radio back then, so we couldn't hear the orders.

At Hockenheim, Lewis took first, while Heikki Kovalainen finished fifth; then at Silverstone, Lewis was back on top and Kovalainen was fourth. In both instances, he wasn't defending against Lewis or even the few others who passed him—it simply made no sense to try and defend against cars that were two seconds faster.

That’s what I call common sense—not team orders. And it seems like at Ferrari, they can only recognize common sense if it falls right out of the sky. 👎

Nobody ever actually said Jenson was just a number two driver. I guess people just like to jump to conclusions.

🤣

Wait, are you actually trying to argue that Jenson Button isn't the number two driver at McLaren?! 🤣 Muahaha 🤣

I really don't feel like going over those McLaren-esque little inside jokes again, nor am I in the mood to deal with that recent schizophrenic screaming: Jenson, we really need to watch the fuel consumption here; it's looking pretty critical. I guess you really have to prioritize saving fuel. 🤣

Nobody ever actually ordered him to let Lewis through. The only thing they didn't allow him to do was get into those stupid, risky, and totally unnecessary scraps with his own teammate. I mean, we've already seen exactly how much of a disaster that looks like over at Red Bull.

So, I guess Lewis is just allowed to dive into those stupid, risky, and totally unnecessary battles with him? 😉 If you didn't happen to have one of the smartest, most level-headed drivers like Jenson Button as a second driver, we probably would've been watching a total McLaren disaster shortly after that mess with Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber. If they had paired him with two Lewis Hamiltons instead of Button, things would've gone south fast. Honestly, I don't know how you can even bring that up without feeling a bit embarrassed. 😁 It was pretty wild seeing how that clash actually went down. I guess you have to wonder what might have happened if Jenson hadn't been playing it safe by managing his fuel, or if he had just decided to hold his racing line instead. 😛 😁

Looking back at those first four races—and I remember watching them closely—Lewis was consistently finishing behind Jenson. Even then, it didn't seem like they were ordering Jenson to just let Lewis through. In Valencia, specifically, Jenson was actually the one to make the move on Lewis, and Lewis fought right back—which, honestly, was the exact opposite of what the pit wall was calling for.
GP Germany - 07/25/2010 in Formula 1 ·
What an absolute joke—who on earth thinks Fernando Alonso actually has a contract allowing him to jump ahead of Felipe Massa? 🤣
