What’s actually controversial here? Did Lewis Hamilton let Button through on purpose, or did Button yield to Lewis? I don't think so.

In fact, if you ask me, it's more honorable that neither of them listened to those frantic radio calls from the pit wall—they just settled it out there on the track.🤷

If they get penalized for that kind of thing, then I guess Ferrari should be penalized for this too.🤷

Hmm, based on what I know about McLaren's internal codes—"save fuel" usually means you stop racing hard to protect your position, not that you slow down enough to let someone pass you.

At the end of the day, Lewis Hamilton earned that 4th place through pure driving, a solid start, and by overtaking Mark Webber—it wasn't some gift from Jenson Button.

If things stay this way—with Lewis and Button just pulling away in the standings—they’re basically widening their lead, right? It feels a bit strange to see them winning while the rest of the competition is busy tearing each other apart 👋👋👋

slydrifter39 said:I don't get why everyone is losing their minds. It’s common sense: if Alonso is the only guy at Ferrari actually in the hunt for the title, you prioritize him. Team orders are really only off-limits because of that mess back in 😁 in Austria back in 2002 when the fans felt ripped off—and even then, the points gap wasn't nearly this huge. What was the move here? Let Massa just cruise to a win? Or should they have just crashed into each other? And for whoever was whining about what McLaren did... so what? It doesn't change anything. I still expect Hamilton to take the championship, but all this outrage is just ridiculous.

P.S. Vettel showed exactly how shaky he is right at the start with that stupid shove. That’s not how you win races, and the footage proves it.

The logic holds up, but you can't execute it like that—it's disrespectful to the fans, the sponsors, and the competition alike. If you absolutely have to make a tactical swap, do it with a bit more subtlety; show at least a modicum of respect for F1 as a sport.

Alonso — honestly, just a complete madman 🤣🤣🤣

If Button had about 60 points right now and we were looking at this exact scenario over at McLaren, you really think they wouldn't do whatever it takes to ensure Lewis finishes first? Anyone who thinks otherwise is being incredibly naive. Whether it’s done through direct orders or some subtle coded messages, the end result is just as unfair. Though, I suppose you could argue whether it even counts as "unfair" when you consider the massive stakes, the money, and the underlying politics, much like what Blaze and Novak were mentioning earlier.

That whole fuel situation at McLaren is basically just a team order 🤷 wrapped in a slightly more sophisticated disguise, but it's still transparent to everyone watching. We all know team orders exist; it’s nothing new or surprising. The only difference is the method—at McLaren, they use fuel levels, whereas here they just tell Mass that Nando is faster, which he actually 😁
was.
So, what is the actual difference in the grand scheme of things? Let's not be hypocrites 😁

McLaren is like a girl you have to play games with to win over, while Ferrari is like someone you basically have to pay off—both are exhausting, but it's all about how you approach them 🤷

Felipe Massa is a legend—so please, don't act like such a sore loser 👍

It's clearly a deep-state conspiracy against the McLaren crew, backed by those lifelong haters of everything McLaren and even the leadership over at Vatican City.

Red Bull gets almost everything wrong, but they aren't capable of this kind of stupidity.

For now. 🙏

kajgod pila, I honestly think McLaren just used this to settle their internal hierarchy once and for all. You can't have drivers tearing each other apart on track like we saw at Red Bull, and you can't explicitly order Lewis to let someone pass at the finish line like they do at Ferrari—but you can always "accidentally" forget a wheel nut cover and let the natural order restore itself within the team.

I don't know if you've noticed, but since then, Button has been consistently slower—almost as if his car isn't right—and his attitude has become much more subdued. Meanwhile, Lewis seems absolutely bursting with confidence, driving the best car he's ever had. It reminds me a bit of listening to Kovalainen 😁

Jason Campbell70 said:Which team is currently dealing with mechanics forgetting to pull the intake cover right before the start, forcing their poor driver to retire by lap two? 😁

Red Bull?

Do you honestly believe a mechanic would just forget something like that? 🤣

stormybadger8 said:McLaren was already trailing Red Bull, but now they're falling even further behind. This track should actually suit them way more than it suits Red Bull.🤷

Red Bull hasn't brought any updates, which means McLaren clearly took a step or two backward instead of moving forward.

That diffuser was supposed to give them an edge in qualifying, but instead, they’ve got a bigger deficit than before.🤷 It's weird, but looks like they totally botched it. Probably due to the weather and the rain during Practice 1 and Practice 2. Shit happens, I guess.

At the end of the day, only the final results matter—tomorrow will show us who actually has the pace for the race, because these qualifying times don't mean a thing. I mean, seriously, wtf... the idea that Lozek is within 0.002 of Vettel? No way.

Whitmarsh mentioned they sacrificed qualifying performance to prioritize race pace—so, honestly, anything could happen tomorrow. 🤷

It’s possible—maybe even likely—that both Red Bull cars end up finishing in the top spots. 😁

stormybadger8 said:If it actually rains, McLaren might struggle just to break into the top 10.🤣

If it really pours, I’m looking at Rubens, Vettel, and Sutil for the podium—though honestly, I haven't a clue who would actually pull it off. I low-key think Sutil could even snag a win for Force India in that mess; his car is basically built for wet weather.🙂

Don't tease me—I'm telling you, qualifying pace doesn't mean much here. McLaren always seemed to lag behind during qualifying, yet they were consistently faster during the actual race, often going toe-to-toe with Red Bull. We'll just have to wait and see tomorrow, though one thing is certain: one of those Red Bull drivers is bound to shoot themselves in the foot.

Hamilton's on the podium, Button's looking at a top 5 finish—though I suspect Webber might not see the checkered flag—Massa's falling out of the points, and while things will likely go sideways for Alonso, he should still manage to scrape some points together 😛
GP Germany - 07/25/2010 in Formula 1 ·
At first, I was genuinely worried about the McLaren—I really was—but it looks like that blown diffuser is doing exactly what it needs to do. Button is sitting about a second and a half behind Lojzek even with a full tank, while Hamilton managed to close the gap significantly in just a few laps, showing his best pace in the second sector. I have a gut feeling that the McLarens might actually run away with it this weekend.

it works like this:
theoretically, Chandok could be a champion—even Yamamoto could pull it off—and technically, you could even see Ralf Schumacher or David Coulthard taking a title
but the old man won't allow it, not even in theory.😬

But honestly, the legend is incredible; he walked away from Ferrari, he’s outclassing these kids left and right, and just having fun on the track—he’d deserve a championship based solely on his performance over these next few years.

What he’s putting on display right now might actually be better than his championship-winning days—either way, he's much more exciting to watch.

stormybadger8 said:even that isn't really an option🤣

Even if they disqualified every other team—which seems unlikely—Rosberg would still end up the champion. 😬

How could they possibly disqualify Mercedes without also disqualifying Schumacher? 😬

Even in theory, it’s almost impossible.😁

Come on, man—do you even know what the word "theory" implies?

stormybadger8 said:he doesn't have a chance—not even theoretically🤣

36 + 9x25 = 36 + 225 = 261

Hamilton 145 + 9x15 = 145+135 = 280 😬

so, even if he were to win every single remaining race—which seems unlikely—it's still doubtful he'd take the title🤣

if we actually saw a run of five or six wins like at the USA GP🤣 I just can't see it happening😂

Theoretically, Elizabeth Hughes could disqualify every single team, strip them of their points, and just declare Schumacher the winner of every race this season🤷

Looking at race pace—especially when you account for Lewis and Alonso—Ferrari consistently sits at best in third place, trailing behind Red Bull.
On tracks that actually suit the car, they've certainly had a shot at the top spot.
The core issue really boils down to qualifying; once they have a clear track ahead of them, their pace picks up significantly.

Even at Indianapolis, once the Ferraris finally had clean air, they were putting up some incredible lap times. Just look at those best laps from Indy:

http://www.formula1.com/results/seas...test_laps.html

Alonso clocked a best lap that was a full second faster than Massa's—and a whopping second and a half ahead of Webber! He was also two seconds clear of Lewis.

Alonso had two pit stops under his belt—meaning he was out on a light car with fresh rubber—so it wouldn't have been surprising if he hadn't posted the fastest lap.

Out of all the big teams, only Ferrari brought a new spec to the table, yet they haven't closed the gap even a little bit.
2010 British GP - Silverstone (July 11) in Formula 1 ·
Let people say what they want.

McLaren has been in this exact spot before—getting the green light from Charlie that everything was fine and the track procedures were solid, only to be slapped with penalties right after the race ended.

Maybe Charlie's word wasn't official at first, but once Renault filed their protest, the hammer dropped. A 25-second penalty, plain and simple.

Honestly, I think this is just another scandal being used to mask Ferrari's actual struggles—they look completely lost and disorganized. The new exhaust design is a dud, there's zero clarity on whether Domenicalli or Alonso is actually running the show, and Massa surely isn't thrilled about Alonso acting like his boss... all after how much we were counting on them at the start of the season.
