I was scrolling through some old sports archives last night and started thinking about how much we obsess over single-season statistical leaders. It’s funny how we can look back at a specific year and immediately associate it with one guy's performance, even if the whole team was actually playing better than that individual.
Don't get me wrong, I love a good standout season. There’s something legendary about a player who just dominates a specific category for a few months. But I feel like we lose the bigger picture sometimes. We talk about these individual milestones like they happened in a vacuum, forgetting that a sack or a touchdown is the result of an entire unit working together.
I remember following a certain team back in the early 2000s, and we used to go crazy every time a specific player hit a certain number. Looking back now, it feels like we were just hyper-fixated on one metric while the actual game was moving so much faster around them. It makes me wonder if we overvalue these individual "kings of the hill" moments at the expense of appreciating the actual team chemistry.
Do you guys think these individual stat leaders actually define an era, or are they just a convenient way for us to remember the highlights?
How accurate are they really? I don't get how they work without mercury. My readings seem to jump all over the place from one hour to the next... I just don't get it.
Alexander Lewis said:It’s entirely possible you're dealing with a tooth infection. They aren't always accompanied by throbbing pain, but they can absolutely cause issues that radiate down into your throat. I went through something remarkably similar after having one of my wisdom teeth partially extracted. I dealt with this persistent, nagging sore throat that just wouldn't quit. If I stayed on top of my health and kept my immune system up, I could manage, but the second work stress kicked in, I stopped hitting the gym, or I started eating junk food, the inflammation would come roaring back. Once I finally had the tooth pulled, it turned out there was a small pocket formed above the site where an infection had taken hold—which I assume was what was bothering my throat all along. As soon as the tooth was gone, the throat irritation vanished.
I honestly don't follow why they'd want to drain half a liter of blood from you. Personally, I’d turn that down in a heartbeat unless they provided a damn good reason to let that happen.
Then there's me... still breathing, I guess. Every outpatient lab test they could run at the clinic came back fine. But here's the deal: I get occasional fevers, and now I have this heavy, dull ache on my right side. It radiates toward the front and settles around my belly button, which is where it hits hardest from time to time. I already checked for appendicitis; that wasn't it. Should I just get my GI tract checked out once and for all and then just take some Xanax? My doctor suggested I come in and stay at the hospital for ten days to figure this out. I can't decide. She says she’s done everything she can in an office setting, so now I just need to be admitted for observation—testing for amoebas, stomach issues, intestinal stuff. Honestly, I'd rather just go to a private specialist. I'm torn.
It doesn't feel like needles. It’s more like I have a hot iron pressed against my side... just this massive area of pain that won't let up for days. I'm only 24, but I'm starting to get really worried it could be a tumor. Maybe something with my intestines? 😢
Still waiting on my serology results. My fever hasn't broken in 50 days... I actually went in for a blood culture yesterday, so now I'm just waiting for the fever to spike again so I can head back to Infectious Disease for another one. I'm honestly terrified of this pain I'm getting in my lower right back. If anyone has any idea what this could be, please let me know. I can't tell if it's bone or muscle; it just feels deep. I've already done ultrasounds for my liver, kidneys, spleen, and heart, plus a chest X-ray, sinus scans, dental X-rays, blood work, and three urine cultures. Aside from all that, does anyone know which organ or what else could be causing such intense pain on my right side, just above the hip?😢I even saw a gynecologist... now I'm just waiting on thyroid hormone levels. HELP
Has anyone here dealt with gut issues? Specifically, what kind of pain are we talking about when there’s actual inflammation or something going on in the intestines... thanks Can't write much more right now, I'll check back in later.
I’m honestly losing my mind here... still waiting on all these lab results to come back. Someone suggested I stop tracking my temperature if I feel okay, but that’s the problem—I don't feel okay. My throat is acting up again even though all the swabs came back clear. People have already started making those tasteless jokes about testing for HIV 🙂 😢 It’s just constant. Throat pain, occasional blisters that pop up and then vanish, and now my ear is throbbing too. I had some dental X-rays done and they told me I need an extraction, but I'm not sure if that'll actually fix this... I'm really hoping it's just the tooth
I'm doing alright. Had some veggie juices earlier, so I'm feeling pretty steady... went to get some dental X-rays today. They're telling me my premolar has to go. Even though it doesn't hurt, looking at the scan myself, it’s pretty obvious it’s time to say goodbye forever.🙂 Still waiting on the results from the infectious disease clinic, so I'll check back later. Thanks for putting up with me.🙂
Like I mentioned, I’ve been running a low fever for about two months now. Finally ran into a doctor who was maybe a bit too thorough—she had me pull ten vials of blood today, even though I already gave three just ten days ago. My head has been spinning ever since, and it’s been about ten hours since they drew it all. Should I be worried, and what’s the best way to bounce back quickly? heeeeeeeelp
Heading back to the infectious disease clinic on Monday... I just can't make this work with my job anymore. My work is basically heavy labor, and I can't afford to miss shifts. I told them I won't be staying overnight at the hospital; I just need them to see me in the morning and figure out what's going on. Any idea how long I'll be stuck there? The doctor mentioned they’d be "targeting the issue," which doesn't help much. I really need to get back to work by 2:00. 😢
I’m honestly counting down the minutes until I can finally answer this... I've been stuck in this same loop for two months now. I’ve scoured every health forum out there, and people are actually incredibly kind and willing to help. It feels like this fever just hit a peak and won't budge until it decides to move on. Right now, I'm just waiting on lab results. Throat and nasal swabs came back clear. Had an ultrasound for my liver, spleen, gallbladder, and kidneys... nothing. My doctor suspected pyelonephritis, but the bloodwork completely ruled that out. I’ve had this nagging cough for about ten days, though everyone seems to be dealing with that lately. A month ago, my white cell count was perfect, but now they're running a bit high. I’m heading back tomorrow to pick up more throat swab results. If those are fine, I guess it’s back to the OBGYN again... just a never-ending cycle. At this point, it's practically a hobby, and my bank account is taking a massive hit. I don't even want to think about seeing an infectious disease specialist just to risk catching something else. It's probably not mono, since my white cells and lymph nodes aren't reacting like that. Maybe Bogart wants me to go back to school and study medicine 🙂 since I basically know all the symptoms and diagnoses by heart now. I'll update you when I get the results
Back again with more lab results... As I mentioned before, I've been running a low-grade fever for about a month now. I've been through the ringer with tests, including one today. My blood work showed WBC 14 and GRAN 9.9. I had an ultrasound recently where the doctor suspected pyelonephritis, but since my kidney markers came back normal, they're leaning away from that diagnosis. Should I be worried about these numbers? Based on what you all have seen, are these significant elevations for leukocytes and GRAN? One more thing—I don't want to start a whole new thread—but has anyone found that antibiotics made their birth control pills fail? Thanks hugs and kisses
Hey everyone, If my white blood cell count and ESR come back normal, does that just rule out bacteria? I'm wondering if those levels could still spike if there's a virus involved.
I spend all day just dreaming about sleep... I can't wait to get home from work and crash for an hour, but it always seems to bug the people around me. They’re usually looking to grab coffee or something, and they know better than to call because I'm out cold... I just worry about how it'll play out in my marriage. This afternoon nap habit? It feels baked into my DNA at this point.
Angela Wright said:Go see your doctor. Are you sure you didn't injure yourself with toilet paper? Try getting some boric acid solution or Rivanol to help ease things up. Use cotton pads as compresses until the swelling and pain die down a bit. It works for postpartum tears, so it should work here too. Since that area is so sensitive and stays damp, it’s a breeding ground for bacteria, so you'll likely need an antibiotic ointment from your doctor.
Thanks for the advice. That's actually what my doctor gave me—Rivanol and vaginal suppositories. He said they're "fissures," basically skin cracks. If anyone else has dealt with this, please let me know what causes it. My doctor was a bit blunt about it, implying I caused it myself by... well, he used a term for "rubbing" that felt pretty dismissive.🙂 🙂 I'm not going back to him. Has anyone else heard of fissures or gone through the same thing? Please share. Thanks.
