Preschool—an entire year of it. My grandparents looked after me until I was five, and then my foster parents decided it was time for me to socialize. (Supposedly, I was far too smart for my own good 😁 )

A quick list of traumas:

4. Anything involving mealtime. I would simply pile a full plate onto that straw mat and wander off to brush my teeth—the next scene was almost always my aunt giving me a swat on the backside, pulling me back, resetting the plate, and forcing me to eat. Just lovely.
3. Some girl—I think her name was Zelma—who was twice my size and incredibly mean. The preschool had low windows with thick black curtains. I absolutely loved hiding behind them; she’d tell me I’d be in big trouble if I moved. I spent most of my afternoons tucked away behind those curtains 😢
2. The "wise" teachers. Mario was a mischievous kid who refused to sleep, so they’d let him play with collage supplies and scissors while the rest of us napped. Of course, Mario found that boring. But look—he was facing a field of sleeping children with HAIR!!! My mom had braided his hair that day, and he just couldn't resist 😬 I spent nearly the entire rest of my time at preschool like that.
1. The videos we watched every afternoon after nap time. The teachers only had two movies. For an entire year, we rotated between watching Tarzan and Samson and Delilah 🙂

And these are supposedly the most catchy ones—Gorillaz?

It’s a bit much. They should have gone with something by Malia instead.

Oh, simply wonderful 😍

Truly goosebumps 🤣

This is quite entertaining.

Fruit teas are garbage—honestly.

Fruit teas aren't even actual tea.
It’s just water with some berries floating in it—gross.

And while I'm on the subject of tea—let's talk about the processed deli meats and pâtés they serve. (!!??!) They basically exist so every daycare center in America can torment kids by constantly serving them alongside overly sweetened rosehip tea...

Hmm. I suppose a list of top daycare traumas should follow this.

Carol Jackson45 said:Yes, things have certainly shifted. It is now a mandatory course during the ninth semester—attendance is strictly required—and it is taught by Lipovac, who meticulously checks every single signature just to ensure no one else is signing for us. A real gold standard, I suppose 🙄 🙄 🙄

Well, here is yet another vote confirming that prestigious reputation.🙄

Carol Jackson45 said:My absolute least favorite subjects in college? It’s almost as if they were designed specifically to test my patience. Let me think...

1. Fundamentals of Urban Planning and Construction Law (the absolute gold standard of boredom)

I honestly think we should implement a rule where students aren't allowed to complain about electives they chose themselves...

...unless the curriculum changed mid-semester, of course. 😁

Here is my definitive list of the most nonsensical course titles in the catalog:

1. Eco-Logic of Sports Facilities (honestly—I still have no idea what that actually entails)

I just can't even... the others all hold a certain nostalgic charm for me. 😍
Jose Miller17 said:🤣 🤣 I am uncertain—it remains unclear. 🙂 We speak with sophistication—not that you would understand, you primitive. 😁

🤣

It is—well, it simply is.

If one can even call it sophisticated—and I use that term loosely—to transform this thread from a critique of certain religious zealots into nothing more than shameless flattery regarding the life and work of David Thewlis.

Indeed—I am simply lifting my aristocratic nose to the heavens and uttering a resounding "bah!" — though, truth be told, I find myself feeling quite weary of the whole affair.

I think I’ll just add one small 😍 little thing here.

And honestly—the SP has some really solid stuff.
Jose Miller17 said:Where does the connection to Thewlis come from? What is that supposed to mean? How could I possibly be unaware of this? 🙂
🙏 🙏 🙏

David Thewlis acts in that remake of the mark of the beast—so a colleague of mine concluded that if they were filming down there, he would likely show up too. And then, somehow, I ended up being the one cheering them on. 🎉

🙏 🙏

Total tangent here: I simply adore those perfectly straight teeth of his. 😍
Larry Martin11 said:...just one thought...

...David Thewlis 😍 — the man who truly moved me with his performance in Leigh's "Naked" 😍 — will be visiting San Francisco and Philadelphia... San Francisco and Philadelphia will finally see David Thewlis...

...though I am currently stuck in NYC and won't have the chance to witness it all firsthand... 😢

...besides, the film likely won't be much—remakes are rarely anything special... 🙂

How about you and I take a quick little trip down there? Just 🙏 catch a glimpse of David a few times and then head straight back to Vegas? Hmm? 😍

really does.
And this part too 😁 -- 😁 I suppose. --

Oh... oh... 🙂--
goodness.

I am putting on my reading glasses—the ones I use for grading papers—and rubbing my hands together...
😁...only to take them off immediately and head straight to bed.

It is a deal.

🙂Just sleep through the night.

Jose Miller17 said:Well, adolescent memories—one simply cannot compete with those...😍 ...but why even bother, Greg? Aside from that cult skin—which is clearly essential—you haven't exactly become more glamorous with age...😁

I actually think Araki is fantastic. It's this strange blend of total absurdity and genuine meaning—and the soundtracks are incredible (not that I haven't mentioned that already...)—plus, he always includes that line at the beginning of his recent films: another heterosexual movie by gregg araki. Honestly, I’m already laughing my head off right from the jump, which makes the rest of it all the better for me.

But really, one shouldn't go looking for deep intellectual complexity here.

It's a recommendation regardless. I have his entire collection myself. 🙂

I posed that question to the group 😁

It felt somewhat strange—honestly, a bit jarring—that I could breeze right past the discussion about Jack Daniel's, yet you became so fixated on Crowne Plaza...

...but regardless—it's done now—so I suppose I shall offer my forgiveness. 😁

Jose Miller17 said:Good grief, brightridge19—you just sent me straight back to the 'Singles' soundtrack. 🙏 😍 😍

Cinnamon? Good heavens, why? 😁

I honestly can't bring myself to watch 'Singles' again these days—not without some hesitation. I have this lingering feeling deep down—just fragments of scenes floating in my mind—and I'm terrified I'll just end up disappointed. Hmm.

You see, that’s never happened to me with 'Grease' 😁 ... since we are discussing legendary soundtracks. *Hopelessly Devoted to You*—it just hits differently. 😍

And what exactly is your own particular issue, kid?

I don't recall ever mocking your posts—not once.

So, just dial it back a bit.

It’s a bit of a sad truth, honestly—if we're talking about sheer impact, Donnie Darko is the ultimate. Vanilla Sky has such a beautiful score, though it's a shame how the movie itself falls short. I can't quite place it right now.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But if we're talking about pure, unadulterated respect—specifically regarding the talent for packing the world's best music into their films—there is only one name: Gregg Araki.😍Is there even a dedicated thread for his work... or should I just start shouting "injustice!" right now?

Early jam sessions, heaps of Slowdive, Ride, Sigur Rós, Cocteau Twins, and Robin Guthrie's solo stuff—plus Suede, Lush, New Order. Then there's Air. And Josh from Slowdive.😍
Pizzicato Five.
Massive Attack...

I truly can't decide whether I love his films more or his soundtracks.

Did I seriously just mention a mountain of Slowdive in every single movie? 😍

I’d like to offer a modest addition noi albinoi soundtrack 🙂

It’s true that Cao Cao is an award-winning product, to be fair. 😍

But honestly—why on earth did they make the new packaging opaque? It was the only way to check if the chocolate coating had started to bloom...

I can't even resist a basic, unwrapped frozen treat when I hit the grocery store early in the morning. Those elementary school nostalgia trips just get to me...
