Schizophrenia - General Discussion in Psychology & Therapy ·
If anyone is interested, you're invited to:

1. a workshop on hearing voices phenomenon from the perspective of the Hearing Voices movement (this session is designed as an introduction to the complexities of hearing voices, covering a wide array of modern insights and approaches to the phenomenon) on Saturday, May 26, 2018, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Center for Excellence in Integrative Bioethics, located at 1a Ivan Lučić St.

2. a workshop titled "The Meaning of Peer Support Groups within the Hearing Voices Movement"(This session offers practical information, techniques, and firsthand experience regarding how peer support groups operate and how to establish one—the very principles upon which the Hearing Voices movement's own groups are built. Additionally, the workshop will provide all the necessary tools for someone looking to become a group facilitator. It’s a hands-on session intended to encourage and assist people in launching their own peer support groups for those who hear voices.) on Sunday, May 27, 2018, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Center for Excellence in Integrative Bioethics, located at 1a Ivan Lučić St.

Both sessions are led by Ada Hasanbašić, a licensed psychologist and Gestalt therapist in private practice who has been an active participant in the Hearing Voices movement across the Western North America and in Prague since 2012.

There is no cost to attend these workshops.
Inquiry - PDF Television Network in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I read it, obviously. But let’s be real—it feels like the old "all men are created equal" line, except some people (looking at you, moderators) are clearly more equal than others. A moderator can post whatever garbage they want without facing any consequences, yet regular users get slapped with penalties just for having an opinion that doesn't perfectly align with yours. 🙄

Instead of focusing all your energy on picking apart my comments, maybe you could try explaining to redhawk76 why you don't actually see a problem with the reported post. 🙄

Tyler Vaughn7 said:I didn't really see what you were getting at with calling that post an ad hominem attack. It feels like you've turned this into some sort of private correspondence with PBS, which honestly has nothing to do with the PDF from the television network. My interpretation of the response that followed was basically that whether we actually enjoy the programming on PBS or not, we're still stuck paying our monthly $27 regardless; PBS couldn't care less about our opinions.

Oh, for heaven's sake! 🙄

Maybe try practicing some reading comprehension, especially if you're acting as a moderator! That wasn't an official response from PBS; it was just a made-up reply written by Earthse, who also happens to be a moderator.
Medical exam for driver's license renewal in Miscellaneous ·
Because I have to wear glasses, I had to head in for a medical exam to get my driver's license renewed every three years. Sometimes they’d put me through a full physical, but other times it was just a quick eye exam and nothing else.
History Subforum - Zoran Ostric - Bad Moderator Choice, Vol. IV in Feedback & Suggestions ·
lonetrucker4 said:"I handed out 100-point penalties to a handful of people who refuse to acknowledge the victims and crimes of the fascist regime. It’s all been said a thousand times before. A certain group of people keeps pushing neo-fascist propaganda, trying to downplay the nature of the Jasenovac camp group and other victims of the fascist regime. To me, that's just as disgusting as denying the Holocaust, the Armenian genocide in Turkey, or the genocide at Srebrenica—things that are actually punishable by law in several European countries." (#1045)

I checked in with some of the other veteran moderators about this, and they told me I wasn't being too harsh—if anything, I was being fair. I've softened my approach since then, though; I'm using the newly implemented "violation of thread rules" penalty, which is only 25 points.

So, who exactly is this "group of people"? Are we talking about the users here, or is this a shot at Stjepan razum? Who on this forum, specifically in the History subforum, has actually tried to deny the nature of the Jasenovac camp group or spread neo-fascist propaganda? I've personally been warned for stuff like that and had posts deleted, and I can tell you for a fact I haven't done any of those things.

Honestly, I'm joining the call to seriously question whether lonetrucker4 is even the right choice to moderate the History section.

Carol Barrett2 said:It’s like, the whole deal with schizophrenia is having these hallucinations or visual disturbances—whatever you want to call them—but I don't have those. Never have. I’m not exactly paranoid either, except for the obvious fact that federal agencies spy on certain people. I don't think they're specifically targeting me, but hey, they're definitely watching someone.

I suspect I might have a mild form of autism—you know, Asperger's—and maybe some paranoid schizophrenia, because my mother used to claim I saw demons in people. But that’s not what I was actually saying. I told her that those "demons" were messing with my head, or that those "vampires" were draining my blood.

Now my mom is claiming she misspoke back when I was admitted to the psych ward. Says that wasn't what she meant. At the time, I just told the technician I needed a break from my own family because they wouldn't stop fighting, and I even told the chief psychiatrist that I was checking myself in because of family issues.

It sounds incredibly bizarre to me that a psychiatrist would hand out a diagnosis based solely on something a parent said rather than through an actual interview with the patient. But hey, in a place like Canada, anything can happen, so I guess this is just more of the same. 🙄
Cycling along the riverfront in Lonely Hearts ·
Keith Cox6 said:Check out the recreation PDF—there's actually a whole section dedicated to cycling. Take a look there 🙂
I mean, I definitely did, and we used to get together in groups of like 20 people. Honestly, I wasn't exactly picky about which school I went to...
Back in the day, the US forums were always buzzing with sports talk, especially when everyone was trying to coordinate casual meetups. Give it a quick scroll through.

Nyxter and I actually played a match of tennis once. Honestly, it’s a shame there wasn't an audience watching; we probably would have died laughing. 😁

Interesting. Those rock formations completely missed me on my last trip.

The Power of Humility in Spirituality ·
feralranger said:I find myself wondering if we can apply a sense of gradation or comparison to this spectrum.

Could one perhaps categorize individuals into tiers such as:

the most humble
somewhat humble
generally humble
those who occupy the neutral middle ground, neither humble nor arrogant
the arrogant
somewhat arrogant
the most arrogant

In your estimation, which of these categories represents the ideal state of being?
And, if you are inclined to indulge my curiosity, which group would you place yourself in?

I suppose it could work that way.

I try my hardest not to be arrogant, but let's be real—I don't always pull it off. So, I usually land somewhere in those middle three categories.
The Power of Humility in Spirituality ·
Joseph Bailey41 said:I think humility is actually just letting someone else push their will onto you.

Actually, no. That’s just being submissive. Humility is a completely different beast.

Humility is really just the flip side of arrogance. And let’s be honest—nobody actually likes people who are stuck-up, cocky, or full of themselves.

Maria Parker77 said:Look, the only being I feel any sense of humility toward is God. When it comes to my friends? I don't expect them to be humble, and I don't act humble with them either. To me, being "humble" would basically mean setting aside my own thoughts and feelings just to listen to what someone else is saying—acting like I already know, in advance, that what they're telling me is somehow better for me (and everyone else), even if it doesn't feel that way in the moment.

To me, being humble with the people around you—whether that's your buddies, your family, or even your coworkers at the office—really just means having the integrity to admit when you've messed up or simply saying, "I don't know," instead of acting like a know-it-all.
Are all Americans actually "American"? in Miscellaneous ·
Joseph Howard12 said:Americans are stupid, slow, and uneducated! True or false? Personally, I’d say FALSE. But I’m curious to hear what you all think. I’m an American who grew up in a small town near Boston, went to college in Boston, and now I'm working at a top-tier American corporation.
In my seven years living here, I haven't dealt with a single issue regarding nationality, so I really want to know why everyone in this country seems to have this preconceived notion that people from the neighboring states are "lower class." There are plenty of perfectly normal people over there. 😉

My own experiences with Americans have been overwhelmingly positive. I certainly don't view them—or anyone else for that matter—as "lower class." That said, I still enjoy telling or hearing a good old Joe and Jack joke every once in a while.😉

Don't mention it, really. Honestly, yours was pretty touching. Personally, though? I'd much rather be the one making people laugh.
Post edit error: "More than one character required in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Jacob Cooper5 said:I don't even bother using the quote function, but honestly, if I did, there’d be no point anyway. The software doesn't even register an edit if you change a single character, let alone swap out entire words.

Been there. Personally, I think the issue was some glitchy syntax with the brackets around the QUOTE or /QUOTE tags.

Count me in. But seriously, what actually caused the shutdown at Psychocata? I’m seeing some people here who look like they’ve aged ten years overnight over it.

My only concern is that every lecture is scheduled for just 15 minutes. Isn't that cutting it a bit thin?

Yeah, it definitely felt rushed. I didn't even get through half of what I had planned to say. But there were so many people signed up to present that they didn't really have any other choice. All in all, though, it was pretty interesting and incredibly diverse. I actually ended up quoting some of your responses, so thanks again to everyone for the help.
