Andrew Clark33 said:Hey everyone,
I'm thinking about picking up a laptop that comes pre-installed with Linux since they're usually way cheaper. Then I'd just wipe it and throw Windows XP or 7 on there myself. Is that actually a good move, or am I better off just paying the extra cash for one that already has Windows built-in?

thanks

Eric Rogers62 said:I’m wondering the same thing, honestly. But also... does anyone know if there's some kind of free software out there that can actually convert that file into an AVI or something similar? Is that even possible without paying a fortune?🤷

I mean, why even bother with Windows Vista when you can just run Windows 7? 😁
Michael Stewart49 said:A buddy of mine is running Windows 7. Can anyone give me more specific steps on how to switch the language over to, say, English using the update tool?
Michael Stewart49 said:I don't even know right now... Windows XP or 7? Just walk me through it.
Michael Stewart49 said:A buddy of mine is stuck with macOS set to German and he can't make heads or tails of anything. He wants to flip it over to English or American English. Is there a way to do that through settings without having to wipe the whole thing and reinstall macOS?
Sandra Ward23 said:well, let me know how it goes
I've never even touched Windows Vista myself, so I'm pretty curious
who knows, maybe I'll actually get some guts one of these days
crimsonorca172 said:And you're right about that too. I’m just wasting my damn time messing around if this thing turns out to be a dud.
crimsonorca172 said:Yeah, honestly, the drivers might be the culprit here. This stupid Dell Dimension
...
I'm having zero luck finding any drivers for Windows 7. Maybe the OS just has everything built-in? Who knows.🤷

Here’s what’s under the hood:
CPU: Celeron 2.5 GHz, Socket 478
RAM: 2 GB, DDR1
Graphics and audio are just onboard stuff, which is fine since I don't need anything fancy for this machine.
It’s running Windows XP right now and everything's more or less fine. But, I’d really love to get Windows 7 on there (I already have it on my other PC). 🙂
Is it gonna run okay, or should I just stick with XP on this dinosaur?
Thanks!

Taylor Morales31 said:I haven't yet since I don't have a flat rate deal. I'm planning on doing it as soon as the first one arrives, otherwise I'd be missing out on those 570mb, but man, that first one is still a long way off.👍
In other words, grabbing an extra gig through an AT&T data package is basically just $97 😬
Taylor Morales31 said:...the first thing you'll actually notice is the boot time—it's about 10-15 seconds faster. As for a full breakdown of what's new, just go dig through some forums online.

...the concept of "current" versus "updating"—well, if we’re being fancy about this ambiguous Americanized wordplay—it basically stems from those annoying Anglo-Saxon imports like "updating," which just means bringing something back to its standard, present-day state, whether it's matter or some weird phenomenon...
...which, in your everyday internet-addled brain, probably boils down to that totally basic, vulgar bit of tech jargon we use for an "updated" operating system.
