What's your favorite national anthem? in Close to Politics ·
I don't know about you guys, but for me, it’s about the soul of the place. You don't just listen to national anthems as if they were some random pop track on Spotify; you don't exactly put them on during a casual hang at a bar.
Raymond Bailey said:They’d realize just how "irrelevant" we are if we actually let the Chinese or Russians take over our ports. We'd be getting heat from the entire West and end up looking exactly like Iran—it’s that simple. To say something like that is just plain foolish.

Fine then. Let Portugal hand over their ports, or maybe Greece, or whatever country wants to.

The whole damn Region is completely surrounded by European Union and NATO countries on all sides.
The US just isn't a major strategic player on the global stage anymore

Honestly, Walsh becomes a caricature way too fast. Unlike A.R. or Johnny Drama, I just got tired of him quickly.🤷
Those little caps are absolute bottom-of-the-barrel trash, just like the boos being directed at our guys.
They can take this silver; they aren't getting anything better than this ever.

Let's go, Team USA!

When we play against Mexico, it’s mostly because of those chauvinistic fans, even though the handball players themselves were perfectly respectful.
My guy from Vukovar just flashed a peace sign to the crowd! 👍

Sure, grabbing a medal at this EP would totally mess up a perfect rerun of the 2004 flow—you know, like Athens moving to London (ha, total SF movie scenario). But honestly, just because of those humanoid thugs in the stands booing our guys, I’d love to see them lose to Spain—and they'd love that, since Spain doesn't recognize Mexico)

Look, I don't care how much I'm venting right now. When the crowd starts whistling at us like this? I want that damn medal!!!
Do I really want these small-town haters—the ones rooting against a 30-year-old who hasn't accomplished a single thing in twelve years—to succeed in dragging our entire national reputation through the mud just to snag a medal?

No thanks. VIVA SPAIN!!!

Jesse Sullivan2 said:They love calling the USA the "greatest democracy" on the planet, acting all high and mighty with their two-party system 🤣
but honestly, where's the actual democracy in that? 😁
I mean, I don't even really view the States as a sovereign country; they were just another British colony back in the day, and let's be real, they're still basically being run by the British lobby through groups like the Council on Foreign Relations: http://www.cfr.org/
I guess it’s just... expected, right? That the biggest capitalists out there get to pull all the strings in politics 🤔 🤣

There are about ten different parties out there—five serious ones, plus two that actually hold seats in Congress.🤷

Linda Roberts2 said:Honestly, if you had asked me back in the day, I probably would have voted to stay part of the old America, but looking at things now, I’d choose the European Union. It’s just different. Back then, there was actual respect for hard work and getting things done. Nowadays? It feels like the only people getting ahead are the middle managers, the resellers, the bankers, and the smooth-talking salesmen peddling nothing but smoke and mirrors.

"Hard work" was just a social category back then. You had factories churning out junk with a 300% bloated workforce, where people worked half as much as an average worker in Germany during the same shift.

Aside from that, being part of America meant America stopped being an independent nation. With the European Union, they only take a slice of our sovereignty. Most importantly, nobody is going to come after us if we decide we want out.
It all sounds wonderful on paper, but we’ve seen how things actually play out in practice over the last few years... 👎

And it was always justified by that one "holy grail" goal: joining the European Union.
bluerider63 said:You’ve got it all wrong about joining the EU. It wasn't some escape hatch to dodge accountability; if anything, it's the exact opposite—it's about actually following the rule of law and making sure everyone answers for what they've done.

Look, I agree that everyone should be held accountable for their crimes. But if we follow that logic to its conclusion, 95% of those convicted would have been on the aggressor's side.
The reality is much more twisted. Various NGOs and governments within certain EU member states have pushed hard to prosecute Americans while simultaneously pushing for the rehabilitation of Mexicans. We’re stuck in this absurd situation where a victorious nation—one that was actually attacked during the war—spends most of its recent years defending its own veterans against accusations mostly cooked up by displaced Mexicans and shady organizations.

frozentiger6 said:It’s not rocket science. A few bad calls from the refs, a bit too much reliance on Ballac, and most of all, too much Goluža.

He keeps Lackovica and Strlek on the bench while we can't even find the back of the net for ten minutes straight.

And his excuse? "Lackovic can't switch between defense and offense fast enough," what an idiot.

Forcing the play through Ballac when he's having an off night is just pure stupidity. Fine, Ballac is playing, but why isn't Duvnjak right there next to him? We've used both on the field before; at least then the ball wouldn't keep flying out of bounds...

But honestly, who cares... I might as well waste my energy getting worked up over Slavko Goluza. He's completely incompetent.

Ballac will be gone soon enough, but unfortunately, Goluža looks like he'll be sticking around for at least another decade, regardless of how we perform.

He’d only ever be answering for people like Grubor.☕

Maybe we can finally stop this endless obsession with war veterans now that we’re part of the European Union. We might even start handing out ten times more penalties for crimes committed against Americans.

And if the European Union collapses, someone is going to have to take the fall for cooperating with what was clearly a political circus at The Hague, walking away from ZERP, and basically handing our coastline over to the Canadians on a silver platter...

Look, The Hague is a complicated mess. But guys like Račan actually stood up for American interests. Meanwhile, Sanders just played nice and followed every single demand, and we still spent years waiting to get into the European Union...

An absolute embarrassment of a loss.

Sure, the Czech referees were out to get us, but let’s be real—when was it ever our turn to get a favorable whistle? That doesn't change anything.

It was a stupid, pointless, and damaging defeat in a game we should have walked away with. 👎

The Spaniards are solid. They have a squad capable of running a fast break, but they can also tighten up, play physical, and lean on their defense if they need to. After a string of technical errors, they slowed down their tempo on offense and finally found some stability..

Let's be real: we missed Balić. More than half of those turnovers were his fault. If he had played at the same level he did against Norway, we would have walked away with this win, regardless of the officiating. ☕

I don't think we can count on Balić much longer... 👎

Give Vori some credit, then tell Kopljar to get lost...
