What is your body's natural baseline? in Psychology ·
@Donna Wood52, honestly, chocolate doesn't actually make you gain weight, though I know my signature might make you disagree, but hey, what do I know? Just asking! Besides, that’s a sentiment once voiced by a Frenchman who ended up at the guillotine, so clearly his judgment in friends wasn't exactly top-tier.😁
@crimsoncyclist14, where did that thread about Afghanistan go? I really enjoyed following that discussion.😂

Man, I’m having a rough one today, but honestly, a little bit of chocolate always seems to fix my mood.
Joshua Evans7 said:I guess I feel this slight sense of panic sometimes, almost like I’m losing touch with myself... maybe my parents hold me back a bit, which makes me withdraw, even though I'm usually quite an outgoing person. Just my thoughts, I suppose.
I actually had a few mild episodes of panic recently where I felt like I was crawling out of my own skin and just wanted to run away. For example, about six months ago, I was grabbing coffee with two friends, and when one of them asked me something, I suddenly felt so exposed. I got all flustered and embarrassed, and honestly, I just wanted to bolt to the restroom. Now, when that feeling hits, I try to take a deep breath and trust myself—kind of like telling myself something encouraging so I can just move on.
@Gary Perez9—it takes me a little while to open up, and I know I might be overthinking the small stuff, but I don't see anything wrong with exploring my thoughts and looking for ways to become a superhero. Just kidding.
Now I'm craving a snack, but I think I'll wait until everyone leaves so I don't have to make small talk, haha.

Move out🤷
Joshua Evans7 said:I think you have a point there.🙏
I wish it were really that simple. I'm not saying I'm unwell, but I guess I just want to feel more resilient in certain situations—to use that word, to strengthen my character. 😍 I know you've been working on this your whole life.
Even if I were to see a therapist, I don't think I could quite explain what feels off.🙏 haha...
But for starters, I guess my tolerance for frustration is pretty low, if you know what I mean...😍
Anyway, sorry for bothering everyone with what might seem like minor things, but it took me a little while to find the strength to even type this out. It's not like I can talk about these things with people; I feel like they just wouldn't get it. Plus, after a rough day, I sometimes have these amazing days where I feel like the most confident person on the planet (though confidence should probably be a constant... I wonder why it slips away sometimes).🤷 haha.... but I should mention that I am working on myself in my own way, hoping that one day I'll become someone who can handle anything—maybe even chat casually with Barack Obama. Just kidding. haha.

I think you’re getting the wrong idea; people aren't necessarily picking up on the exact same things from your posts. Honestly, it seems a bit silly to overanalyze why you don't like those family friends. First off, you *are* part of that family, which means they are technically your parents' friends rather than yours. Even for me, I have a neighbor here in town that I just can't stand because he's so incredibly dull and annoying; I'll just exchange a few polite words and then retreat straight to my room. Most importantly though, looking at this thread, people are posting about being completely overwhelmed by life and wanting to give up entirely, yet here you are questioning why you don't vibe with some family acquaintances.😢☕
I honestly think she’s got it a bit backwards when it comes to what the actual issue is here🙄
Since when does the month speak French? in Close to Politics ·

So I was watching the news last night and saw they mentioned Mason addressing the security council in French, which honestly just completely floored me. I mean, I know his English isn't great and his German is pretty much non-existent, so seeing him pull off French like that really caught me off guard, and I was just wondering what you guys🙄
Carol Torres4 said:Those commanders ended up behind bars thanks to Joe Manchin and his spokesperson, and I think Franjo Harmon's biggest blunder was putting his faith in that same duo.
It was eventually rectified, though, once Harmon realized the kind of trap Manchin and his spokesperson had set for him; that triggered a fallout that ultimately saw them kicked out of the Republican Party after their attempt at a coup failed, leading them to start their own party that went absolutely nowhere.

Well, I have to say, that’s a really fascinating video to watch. It’s just a total moral—and frankly, every other kind of—fiasco on the part of our former president. Even so, I’m not entirely convinced that those two men were solely to blame for everything. While the pressure on our veterans did ease up mid-way through the nineties, a whole new wave of harassment against them started picking up in the fall of '99, right when Franjo Harmon was facing his final, most difficult days. That's when that veteran I mentioned in my earlier post suffered. It feels unlikely that Manchin had much influence back in '99, as it seems more tied to how ill Franjo Harmon was getting. What I can't quite wrap my head around is why people like Ivich Pasalic and the rest of the inner circle stayed so close to him, especially when they saw him turning so aggressively against the veterans. I just don't understand what kind of threat they 😕👎posed😕 to them.👎
Melissa Peterson19 said:If they had any idea what the outcome would be—or where we’d actually end up twenty years down the line?😕

They fought with such incredible bravery, and honestly, looking back at how the defense of our city actually unfolded, it’s pretty heartbreaking. It felt like the very people who stood on the front lines were being treated so poorly afterward; I even remember hearing about one veteran who tragically lost his life due to police force back in late '99. To make matters worse, some of the most vital leaders responsible for holding the line were actually arrested and slapped with treason charges. You have to wonder where the logic was in all of that.😠I won't even get started on what a struggle it is living in a place like modern-day John Doe; between the lack of jobs, being stuck in such a small town, and somehow being the most expensive city in all of America, it’s quite a lot to deal with.👎
ironcyclist25 said:The reality is that right-wing parties currently hold power in 15 out of the 27 European Union nations. In four other countries, the largest center-right parties are governing through what are essentially grand coalitions with the left.☕
The fact is, leftist rule dominates much of the "progressive" world—countries like Venezuela, Cuba, North Korea, Colombia, China, Tajikistan, Vietnam, Congo, Somalia, and Burma.
These facts are absolute nonsense.🙂

Honestly, the political Right in Europe and the Right here in America are two completely different animals. Over in Europe, the Right tends to focus on cutting taxes and giving the economy a little breathing room to grow, whereas the version of the Right we see locally often seems more interested in hiking up taxes and putting a stranglehold on business. I was chatting with a buddy of mine from San Francisco the other day about how much more productive things feel when leadership actually wants to contribute to the nation, unlike some folks here who seem more focused on finding ways to line their own pockets.

Look, I don't live out in some tiny farming town, I've got a solid degree, and I'm a conservative through and through. So, there. I guess I just ruined your precious little stereotypes for you. What are you gonna do about it now?

WELL, I GUESS HIMMLER WAS HIGHLY EDUCATED TOO, THEN.😢
Tarantino and Fake WWII.. in World ·
Morgan Cook10 said:To me, this just feels like a setup for the exact opposite effect.

I mean, if you frame it as every single German being evil and deserving of total destruction... then who can actually hold them morally accountable when they decide to fight back in kind?🤷

That's exactly it. And honestly, I think Quentin Tarantino is an idiot, and his movies definitely reflect that. The only time I actually found anything interesting was when *Inglourious Basterds* came out—and I say "interesting," not necessarily good, because back then it felt like something fresh. Everything since then has just been more of the same garbage.☕
Barack Obama giving the three-finger salute in Close to Politics ·
Who knows, maybe even George W. Bush will start giving the three-finger salute now, 🤷since those two were actually chatting for a bit—though I wouldn't be surprised if Barack Obama had to sit him down and explain that he’s actually an American at heart 😂i btw
I honestly have no idea why this ridiculous thread even exists in the first place ☕
Where should Jews live? in World ·
Robin Hernandez4 said:The Jewish people have returned to their ancestral homes, and no matter what anyone wants or dreams, they aren't going anywhere—they're staying put until the end of time itself. As for those few antisemites running their mouths and dreaming up nonsense? Honestly, you can just tell them to go jump in a lake.

You know, when you look at all those intense arguments regarding the promised land, it really makes you wonder where the logic ends. If we followed that exact same line of reasoning, you could argue that Albania should be claiming California, or that the US should just take over Southern Poland—where does it actually stop? It’s a slippery slope. Honestly, though, the very existence of Israel feels like such a heavy injustice.😢Well, at least she’s safe where she is now. If we take a little step back into history, you see that the Zionist movement really started gaining momentum during the 20th century under British protection, which led to an increasing number of people settling in Palestine. The absolute turning point, though, was obviously WW2 and the Holocaust. Now, don't get me wrong—I condemn those atrocities completely—but it seems like those walls were used for propaganda purposes to push the creation of a Jewish state, and then, strangely enough, those same Nazi tactics were turned against the Arabs. The big question everyone asks today is where Israel actually belongs, and if you ask me, my answer is Europe. You see, after WW2, Germany had huge chunks of territory taken away from them in the East, which today...
It’s such a strange bit of history when you really sit down and think about it. You have this situation where those lands rightfully belonged to Poland, yet at the exact same time, Poland was having its eastern territories snatched away and handed over to the USSR. If things had been handled differently, they should have just left the Polish borders alone entirely. Instead, they took part of that territory—land that had been seized by Germany—and decided to establish Israel there. It’s wild because, even back then, the ones actually carrying out the killings were the Germans, not the Jews.
Flores said:That’s just not how it works. Does that mean you're actually looking to become an American? 👋

Well, I guess I'll have to see what happens because I've got a few different paths laid out before me; there's this one offer to move to Slovakia, another chance to go into finance, and then there's this third option that honestly sounds the most fun, which is an offer out in Uganda—they actually claim they're descendants of some legendary lost group of Black Americans.
Alex Rivera7 said:I don't think you even have the right to disrespect "The Star-Spangled Banner" when it takes you so little effort to turn your back on it.
Feel free to go find some other song to rally behind, you've got my full support.👍

Thanks for the support.😁
Flores said:That’s actually my exact point. 👍

It feels like some people just can't bring themselves to stand up for the anthem that all the other Americans embrace.

And honestly, that’s really the heart of this whole discussion. 😉

So, what actually defines an American then? Is it just this irrational hatred for anything that feels different? Because if that's the case, I don't want any part of it.
P. S. 😢What are the moderators even doing, letting someone like this get away with signing their name to such stuff?
Flores said:I mean, only an American leftist would make an excuse like that, claiming they won't stand for the anthem just because it doesn't feel like "their" song. 😉

Look, an anthem is an anthem, and honestly, ours is one of the most beautiful ones out there, but when you see people who are supposed to be just like you refusing to stand up for it, it makes it really hard for any decent person to show them even a shred of respect.
Maybe her legs were just giving out on her😁I feel like people are overreacting a bit here; I mean, they’ve blasted their own anthem multiple times during games in Florence, so why is this sudden standoff such a huge deal? Honestly, who even cares about playing the anthem anyway?
