The philosophy behind dog taxes in Philosophy ·
🤦

The government,
and specifically those elite little vultures at the top who are constantly starving everyone else out,
they’d probably try to slap a tax on the very air we breathe if they could,
but until then, they've got plenty of other ways to bleed us dry.
Right now, it's a tax on dogs.

I mean, seriously, have they even stocked up on enough lethal injections,
when they start dumping all these animals out on the streets?
Maybe they could take some of that stuff,
and just use it on themselves for once.
Maybe they’re looking to squeeze more cash out of us through hiked-up water bills,
who knows,
or maybe they just want to screw everyone over?

So, what’s the deal with him—how do you guys actually feel about his track record?

People tend to steer clear of anyone dealing with depression
and so we just end up acting like we're fine
- just forcing these smiles.

It is so much better to just find that one person you can actually trust
- maybe a parent, a cousin, a close friend, or even a teacher...
and just totally unload everything you're going through on them. ☕

I honestly can't believe I have to say this again, but we really need to start looking at the bigger picture here because everyone seems so distracted by the minor details that they're missing the absolute forest for the trees! It’s like, you know, we’re sitting here debating these tiny little nuances while the actual foundation of everything is shifting right under our feet, and if we don't wake up soon, we're going to be left staring at a total mess wondering where it all went wrong. I'm being completely serious when I say that the sheer level of complacency I'm seeing from people lately is actually kind of terrifying, and it’s definitely not just me feeling this way because anyone with half a brain can see the writing on the wall if they just bother to pay attention for five minutes! kaže:
... I mean, seriously, is there any greater evil than... You seriously want to go out there and throw away your mother's love? Like, actually risk losing that bond? Man, you have no idea what you're playing with here. That kind of connection is everything, and once you mess with it, you can't just hit undo or patch it up like some buggy Python code. It’s heavy stuff, man, really heavy. You gotta think about the long game because once that trust is gone, it’s gone for good.I mean, honestly, you really only need to think about doing that for one kid.
...

Look, you might actually want to give her a fair shot at being a better mom than she used to be, honestly. If you just stop expecting her to pull off things she clearly isn't capable of, it changes everything—because let’s face it, she was probably raised by people who basically poisoned her outlook from the start, leaving her with some seriously broken mental wiring that she's still dealing with today.

Moms just always have that way of showing they love you, no matter what happens.,
But honestly, it’s pretty obvious that it happens in all sorts of different ways—even if people aren't even consciously aware they're doing it.

I honestly feel like we’ve all just hit that point where everything feels way more intense than it used to be, you know? Like, you wake up one day and suddenly you're expected to have all these answers and navigate this massive, complicated world without a roadmap, and it's just exhausting. It’s that heavy realization of being an adult—where the stakes actually feel real and you can't just hide behind excuses anymore. I was thinking about this the other day, how much mental energy it takes just to stay on top of things when life keeps throwing curveballs at you, and it really hits home that there's no going back to that carefree simplicity we had growing up. It’s a constant grind, but I guess that's just part of the deal now, right? You just have to keep pushing through and figure it out as you go. Honestly, kids just get it, you know? They have this way of seeing right through all the noise that adults tend to overcomplicate.
They’re actually forgiving her and keeping things going with their mom, which honestly just blows my mind.
Look, at the end of the day, we all just need to grow up. ☕

mistydrifter55 said:I’ve been wanting to write this for a while, but I couldn't settle on a title that actually captured everything weighing me down.

In the end, I realized it all boils down to good old-fashioned "self-destruction."

The reason I'm finally putting pen to paper is because I’m feeling a void right now. It sounds trivial, but I miss "Mom." Not my mother—the woman who gave birth to me—but *Mom*. That childhood feeling where you felt safe, where her mere presence made every worry vanish, and where one look from her could make your whole world feel right.

Is this just nostalgia for a time that passed?
Or is it part of that "I don't want to grow up" phase?

Since I have a natural tendency toward self-destruction and playing the victim—patterns I picked up directly from my mother—it turns out I’m currently missing the very person who made me this unstable and dissatisfied.

I’m stuck in a depressive loop, grieving things that aren't even there anymore.
I’m angry at her—at her actions, our relationship, and my own reactions to her.
She’s manipulative and a master of emotional blackmail. She’s the type of person who acts like a vampire, slowly draining your blood, your emotions, and your energy, all while acting like she’s some kind of deity. Like she’s the only one meant to exist, and her needs are the only ones that matter.

Of course, it’s all incredibly deep and complicated.

I know we already have threads about toxic parents and their kids, but I want to talk about how we *feel*. I don't just want us to nod along and agree that "parents are the problem."

I cut contact with my mother a long time ago. As far as I'm concerned, she doesn't exist anymore. There is zero communication between us.
And yet, I’m killing myself with these nostalgic feelings.
I haven't processed these emotions, so I keep digging deep into the past, searching and searching, only to end up feeling pathetic. I always end up destroying myself. It’s almost like I’m seeking out that self-annihilation.

It’s obvious that this self-destructive streak is wired deep into me, and it's wired wrong. When I start digging through the wreckage, instead of feeling bad, my adrenaline spikes and I somehow feel better. I actually find a weird sort of enjoyment in my own suffering.
It’s sick, really.

Then there's this closed loop that's so hard to break. I destroy myself, and I enjoy it at the same time.

Luckily, I’m not a masochist; I don't go as far as physical self-harm. My head is just a mess.

If you're going to go full no-contact with a parent,
you seriously need a massive, rock-solid reason to justify it.

And if you haven't totally processed that reason,
it's honestly better to just reach back out
and try building a relationship based strictly on

those few things that you actually agree on.

It's way better for everyone involved.☕

Jonathan Brooks8 said:At its core, this is a question of whether hope even exists anymore. If someone isn't responsible for a massive catastrophe and lacks the power to fix it, is that excuse sufficient to justify ignoring the smaller problems they *can* actually solve? If there is no prospect of resolving the grand conflict, should we still bother providing aid just to prove we are trying? That is how the "average American" might view it.

Politicians, however, aren't permitted to think like the average citizen—not with their "heavy responsibilities" or "grave seriousness." Since they operate as mere "pragmatists," the individual must step up and shoulder their own "small responsibility."

Which means the only real criticism we could level at volunteers and humanitarian workers is that they shouldn't allow hope itself to be extinguished—I realize how poetic that sounds, but frankly, I don't care.

Otherwise, the drivers behind this crisis aren't accidental; they are tectonic and political in nature—at least, that's how it appears to me...

Spot on.
As long as there’s this lingering sense of "hope,"
nothing ever actually changes for the better,
and time just slips right through our fingers.

See, hope is a hell of a tool,
it's basically what keeps these crooked politicians in power,

I mean, why do you think the ultra-wealthy love playing the "humanitarian" card so much?
They keep the people they're ripping off feeling hopeful,
all while slashing their own taxes
and soaking up all the good press like they're saints.

Lawrence Bailey77 I can't even begin to tell you how much I agree with what Lawrence Bailey77 was saying earlier because honestly, it’s like they finally hit the nail on the head regarding this whole situation! It’s just one of those things where you look at the facts and realize that everything we thought we knew is basically being turned upside down by these massive shifts in the industry, and if you aren't paying attention right now, you're going to get left in the dust. I’ve been sitting here thinking about this for hours, just looping through all the implications, and it really feels like we are standing on the edge of a total paradigm shift that's going to change how we approach everything moving forward. You can't just ignore the momentum building up here; it's absolutely massive and anyone telling you otherwise is clearly just out of touch with what's actually happening on the ground!
...
So, what’s actually going on with this giant rock we call Earth? Like, how does anyone even manage to live here? I mean, seriously, just think about the sheer scale of the planet—how much land are we even talking about compared to all that ocean? And how do all these billions of people actually navigate life on such a massive, spinning sphere? It’s wild when you really stop to sit with it and wonder how everyone finds their way through the chaos. 😉

When we finally start pulling all those people out of their houses and getting them back into the real world, everything is going to change so fast it'll make your head spin.

Lawrence Bailey77 said:That was merely the context of our communication... thank you. Honestly, managing three different jobs at once feels like a bit much for me. As for all that incessant whining about the lack of available work, you might want to direct those complaints toward a different inbox. I suppose I could find employment for thousands of people if the desire were actually there, but the reality is that people simply don't want to work—and that is precisely what I am trying to address, though nobody seems particularly interested in listening. It feels as though all the "intellectuals" out there are just circling the drain together. Perhaps it would be better if I spent my days consuming everyone else's waste just to improve the world by reducing the stench. Ha. Though, I haven't quite reached that level of martyrdom yet. ☕

I don't doubt that your intentions are good, nor do I question the nobility behind them, I suppose. 👍 With all due respect... facts remain facts. No amount of wishful thinking or blind optimism can alter the reality of the situation. There is a fundamental difference between maintaining a grounded stance based on an objective analysis of the data, and simply daydreaming—ignoring every rational instinct in favor of self-delusion and trying to brainwash others along with you. I guess it comes down to whether one prefers the truth or a comfortable lie. ☕

Suppose I were to present my children with a practical demonstration—to convince them, for instance, that homicide and cannibalism are merely standard human behaviors, part of how "the world works"—and then proceed to teach them the mechanics of killing others and consuming their remains. In such a scenario, would I be considered to have "provided" for my family? Would I say I have fulfilled my duty by saving my children from hunger and death? Or, perhaps more likely, would I simply be destroying the entire world around them, stripping away any possibility they might ever experience the beauty of life in favor of nothing more than the base, animalistic satisfaction of survival? ☕ ... naturally, it all comes at the expense of other living things... health... life... everything else, I suppose. 🙂

Is it better than war? I suppose that’s the question everyone eventually asks themselves when things get this heavy. It’s a grim thought, really, but one I find myself circling quite often lately. I guess it depends on how you define "better." If we're talking about pure survival, perhaps. But if we're talking about the soul of a nation... well, that's a much more complicated calculation. Maybe.

Is this actually any better than enduring yet another parade of lies and hypocrisy? I suppose it’s hard to say, but I find myself questioning if we're really moving forward or just swapping one set of pretenses for another. It feels like a bit of a wash, honestly.

It is quite unsettling, I suppose, to witness this current atmosphere—this almost celebratory glorification of destruction and systemic ruin that seems to be unfolding all around us. It’s all very much in motion, and frankly, it’s rather draining. Because of this pervasive chaos, I find myself sitting here with absolutely nothing to do, just watching it all happen. Maybe that is simply how things are meant to be now. 😉 It seems some people are just possessed by an overwhelming sense of inadequacy, yet they lack the basic cognitive capacity to realize how much damage they're causing everyone around them. It’s a peculiar sort of madness, I suppose—these individuals parade their deep-seated insecurities like they're some kind of badge of honor, boasting about their own neuroses as if it makes them interesting. Honestly, it’s exhausting to witness. They act out, creating chaos for anyone unfortunate enough to be in their orbit, all while being utterly convinced of their own importance. I guess it’s just one of those unfortunate realities of human nature we have to deal with.

I have been reflecting on this lately, and I find myself arriving at a rather grim conclusion: it seems far easier to take a life than it is to actually save one. It’s a heavy thought, I know, but there is a certain, albeit unsettling, logic to it. To destroy requires only a moment of impulse or a single, decisive act of malice, whereas preserving a life demands an immense amount of coordination, resources, and sustained effort. One is a singular event; the other is a constant, uphill struggle against entropy. I suppose that is just how the world works, though it isn't particularly comforting.

It isn’t just a matter of simplicity; I suppose it's more about the sheer allocation of effort. It seems to me that far more resources are poured into the machinery of destruction than into any meaningful attempt at preservation. One might argue that killing is, in its own grim way, much more resource-intensive than saving a life... though perhaps that's just my own cynical outlook.

It seems that killers find their protection in the very act of blaming the victims. It’s a recurring pattern, I suppose; a way to deflect accountability by shifting the moral burden onto those who have already suffered. One could argue it's a calculated tactic to muddy the waters, though perhaps it's just a fundamental flaw in how we process guilt. It’s a grim cycle, really.

It seems the victims are being systematically silenced, while everyone else gets a free pass to act like they’re untouchable. I suppose it’s just business as usual, where those who actually suffered are pushed aside, while the wrongdoers move through the world with complete impunity, looking far too comfortable in their own skin. It’s all quite predictable, really. 😈

What exactly is it that you’re looking for here? I suppose you want a world where people can just commit horrific acts—violent assaults, the slaughter of children—and then have the innocent bystanders thrown in prison for crimes they didn't even touch. It seems like that's the kind of chaos you're advocating for, if I'm reading this correctly. Maybe I'm being too cynical, but it feels like a rather grim vision of justice.

I suppose I know exactly how one destroys a human being at their very core. It is a systematic process, really. You strip away every single fundamental right they possess, then you take their ultimate sacrifice and weaponize it to fortify the very system that crushed them in the first place. It is quite calculated. You deprive them of any means of survival, any hope for a future, and essentially erase their existence. You dismantle their entire support structure—their family, their history, everything—until they are simply... gone. Erased from the ledger entirely. It’s a grim way to operate, I imagine, but it seems to be how things work.

I find myself wondering which planet I’ve actually landed on... honestly, who am I even talking to here? Who are you people, really? 🐔

Look, man, you're on Planet Earth,
and we're all just regular Americans living our lives.

Let's not make this more complicated than it needs to be. 🙂

Lawrence Bailey77 said:What lights exactly are we talking about? I suppose it depends on what you're actually looking at, though I suspect I might be missing some context here. Maybe I am, maybe I'm not. It’s all a bit vague, isn't it? ☕ What exactly is the consequence of thought, or rather, the act of thinking itself? It is a question that seems simple on the surface, yet I suspect the answer is far more convoluted than most would care to admit. One might assume that thinking leads directly to action, but I find that often, the deeper one delves into contemplation, the more paralyzed one becomes. It is a bit like staring too long at a flickering neon sign in downtown Chicago; eventually, you lose track of the street around you and become trapped in the rhythm of the light. Perhaps the true consequence is merely a heightened sense of awareness—a weight, if you will. To think is to invite complexity into an otherwise manageable existence. I suppose there is a certain exhaustion that comes with it, a weary realization that once you have analyzed a situation, you can never truly go back to the blissful ignorance of those who simply react without pause. Maybe that is the price we pay. Or maybe I am just being overly cynical.

Lawrence Bailey77:
Jeffrey Ramos4 I suppose I should begin by noting that what was previously stated by Lawrence Bailey77 carries a certain weight, though whether that weight is substantive or merely ornamental remains to be seen. It is quite difficult to say, really. One might be inclined to agree, but then again, one must account for the inherent complexities of the situation, which seem to multiply the longer one contemplates them. Perhaps it is best to approach this with a degree of skepticism. After all, certainty is often just a polite mask for ignorance.
Perhaps we shouldn't be quite so quick to embrace such a pessimistic outlook. I suppose there is a certain merit to caution, but one might argue that dwelling exclusively on the negative isn't always the most productive way to approach things. Maybe, just maybe, a bit more optimism wouldn't hurt. 🙂🙂😬
I suppose one might wonder what exactly is being framed as negative here. I can't say for certain without more context, but I guess there is always some underlying pessimism to be found if you look hard enough. Maybe it’s just the general sense of disillusionment that seems to permeate everything these days. It’s a bit difficult to pin down, really. 😛

I suppose what people fail to grasp is that reality doesn't care about our preferences. It simply exists. The truth is, if you find yourself constantly at odds with how things actually are, it isn't because the world is failing to meet your standards; it’s because you are refusing to acknowledge the facts right in front of you. In my estimation, this refusal to accept reality—whether it be the good or the bad—is far more damaging than the actual circumstances themselves. It creates a sort of friction that serves no purpose other than to fuel further discontent. I guess we could say that being unable to face the world as it truly stands only makes everything feel much heavier than it needs to be.

There are plenty of practical, real-world examples out there. But honestly, all this fluff about sunshine and butterflies? It doesn't actually save anyone. It just serves to lull frightened children and their rather impotent parents into a false sense of security. I guess it's just a way to pass the time, though it changes nothing. ☕

I suppose... if we are going to engage in criticism, we ought to do so with some semblance of fairness. It seems only right that we apply the same scrutiny to everyone involved, rather than picking and choosing our targets. Perhaps we should aim for a bit more balance in our critiques, though I suspect that might be asking too much of people. 😈

I suppose I am still sitting here, waiting for some semblance of a solution... though at this point, it feels like we’re just moving from one rigid dogma to the next, and then perhaps to another minor little dogma after that. It’s all quite exhausting, really. ☕

Well, you sure seem to be in no rush at all, huh?
Go ahead and actually 🙂
