Interesting...

The British media is busy blathering about how Kimi is lagging behind Vettel, acting like it’s some massive crisis for Ferrari and their shot at the constructors' title...
Meanwhile, they’re staying dead silent about the fact that Bottas is easily the worst driver left on the grid when you look at his qualifying gap to his teammate—which is usually the clearest sign of who actually has the pace.

But this specific stat under number 5 is actually pretty wild 🤣
Seriously, damn Pirelli. I can't believe nobody has managed to pull off a single lap on the hard compound in any race 🤦
It’d honestly be fascinating to dig up the data on total laps driven per tire component. I highly doubt even the Medium has a decent number behind it...

Also, I think I read somewhere that the total number of grid penalties due to engine issues this season is around 800, and McLaren-Honda accounts for about 400 of those 🤦

Interesting. So even back in 2015, Mercedes had an engine mode that could shave a full second off a lap time. They only let their customer teams touch that kind of power once, and that was pretty much it...

What's wrong with 🤷
Where on earth did I mention a real fight in 2015, and how did you even come to that conclusion? 😕

Since 2014, there hasn't been any actual fighting going on at all... nothing.
From the very first second of the season, it's obvious Mercedes is taking the titles...
The only question is how many Luxury mistakes they'll make, which might decide the rest of the season and occasionally create some sort of drama...

Mercedes 2015:

16 wins

12 double victories

Muy interesante 🙄

You're making some fair points...
If Rosberg had been in the car this season, his stats regarding win counts and double wins would look pretty much identical to 2015...
Hamilton basically did this one at half throttle, so it's funny how those Sky Sports guys celebrate every single pole position when you watch the onboard and see him making at least one or two mistakes per lap...
And Bottas wouldn't stand a chance; Rosberg would have cleaned those up easily. 😉

He’s the same way with races, too—he missed quite a few opportunities in the first half of the season to put Hamilton on pole and just cruise to a win...

The only reason it was even interesting was because of the mistakes made by Hamilton and Hamilton at the start of the season. In the second half, Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel took back everything they had been gifted, with interest...
Honestly, there weren't any real battles happening; it was just an illusion created by mistakes on both sides...

So, there are 103 different ways Hamilton walks away with the title in Mexico, and only 8 scenarios where Vettel stays in the hunt...

If Hamilton doesn't wrap this up right now, I'm expecting a total meltdown on par with 2007.🤣

mellowtiger83 said:My apologies, I was actually thinking of Mexico, my mistake.

In Mexico, Mercedes-Benz is being incredibly Aggressive!

What does "super aggressive" even mean to you?🙂
The USA team in Mexico had the exact same number of tire sets as Ferrari and Red Bull, and everyone else too...

Why bother following these stupid journalistic narratives?🤦

If you want to talk about "Aggressive," maybe if both drivers had a choice like this: Soft 1, SS 1, US 11

All these patterns—like Soft 2, SS 2, US 9, or even when one driver takes two Soft sets while the other takes two SS sets, yet they both end up with 10 US sets—it all ends with them starting the race with the same amount of rubber as the competition...
The only difference is one guy is running his race simulation on Softs, the other on SS, and they're both using the US sets to dial in the setup for qualifying and the race...
But at the end of the day, they both have one set of hard tires and one set of US left for the race, plus a mountain of US sets for qualifying (at least 4 sets)...
Basically, everyone hits qualifying with the same scheme: 1 x soft, 1 x SS, 5 x US... how they burn through the other sets during FP doesn't really matter anyway.

The whole point is just what they use for practice, nothing more...
In the end, they aren't worried about how the harder stuff like SS or Softs behave; they already know those will be fine. The goal is to use the practice sessions to tweak the setup so they don't kill the US tires during the race simulation, while still being lightning fast on them during qualifying...

So no, the USA team isn't being "aggressive" in Mexico. They’re clearly anticipating degradation issues on the US or speed issues in qualifying on the US, so they go heavy on the US sets to give themselves enough room to fine-tune the setup...
That was actually Red Bull and Ferrari's trick back when they were pushing so hard in qualifying that they needed a massive pile of the softest tires...

Meanwhile, in Mexico, Ferrari obviously isn't expecting any drama with the US during qualifying or the race. They're focusing more on the long-run pace for the second stint, which explains why they're carrying more sets of the harder tires...

So, looks like Mercedes, Red Bull, AlphaTauri, Force India, and McLaren are all playing dirty with their suspension—and apparently messing with the tires too. 😁

God only knows what kind of mess this is going to blow up into...

Funny how Sebastian Vettel absolutely crushed qualifying, leaving Valtteri Bottas in second while Kimi Räikkönen was basically useless—acting like he’s some kind of new Ayrton Senna and Lewis Hamilton hybrid. 😁

http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2017/07/0...lty-decision/?

Honestly, I can't tell if Jean Todt is trolling us or if these "journalists" are just taking his quotes out of context to stir the pot...

“The reason why as president of the FIA I felt uncomfortable it was because from what I heard Lewis Hamilton did not do anything different from what he did at the previous Pace Car. So after the race there were some comments from the team and Sebastian Vettel on how unhappy they were and how unfair this decision was made.”

“I thought that we needed to understand better what had happened.

Man, the Brits are probably losing their minds right now. Based on this nonsense, it sounds like Jean Todt was actually looking for reasons to penalize Lewis Hamilton at Las Vegas instead of Sebastian Vettel...

Joseph Edwards86 said:Did anyone actually wrap their head around how using oil as fuel works?
How does oil give an edge over straight gasoline?

It’s probably all about the fuel volume itself. You know the deal with max flow rates limiting total power...
just remember when Ricky got disqualified because RB was pumping more fuel than they were allowed...

Logic dictates that if the oil bypasses that flow sensor, it's basically "free" extra mass. It might not provide the same raw combustion energy as gas, but you get more total stuff in the engine, which eventually translates to more power...

Following that logic, you could only pull this off for short bursts since there isn't enough oil in the car to run on it constantly. Honestly, it’s a pretty logical explanation for why Mercedes-Benz looks like a rocket ship in qualifying but struggles during the actual race...

Funny how everyone conveniently forgot to mention that Lewis Hamilton's telemetry was basically cobbled together by some guy on his home PC. He just stared at the Live Timing, whipped up his own telemetry, and dumped it online...

I guess since I'm using Live Timing now, I might as well start building my own car telemetry too. 😁

23 From Lewis Hamilton Charlie, can't you see the Safety Car is actually dangerous? Just slow us all down with a VSC; that way, nobody crashes.

23 From Lewis Hamilton What's the plan for this start? It's just going to be more dangerous with everyone on fresher tires.

And that was right after he collided with Sebastian Vettel—literally right at the next restart...
🤔 Hmm, was Hamilton trying to say the Safety Car was the reason for that first crash with Sebastian Vettel?

mellowtiger83 said:Someone please just post the radio transcripts from last year's Mexican Grand Prix. Then maybe we can stop pretending Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari aren't being treated like royalty protected by the establishment.

Seriously, what’s worse than calling Charlie a jerk? Is there anyone here who actually thinks he’s a saint? 🙂

Let’s talk about his calls and how the FIA operates for a second...
Is calling Charlie a jerk really worse than lying straight to the race officials or cooking up penalties just to grab a podium for yourself?

Or is it worse than testing a current car and tires while ignoring every rule in the book?

Is it worse than diving into a direct championship rival and knocking them right out of the race?

Lewis Hamilton did all three and didn't face any serious consequences—hell, some people don't even get penalized at all. What does that tell you?

Maybe he's just untouchable, like he's got a permanent shield over everything he does?
Or maybe the FIA has just always been criminally inconsistent with their rulings and penalties...
Like they're more interested in reflecting whoever holds the most political power in Formula 1 rather than following logic, the rules, or basic honesty...

I mean, hello? We're talking about an organization that handed Fernando Alonso the win in Singapore 2008, even though it was blindingly obvious Nelson Piquet Jr. hit the wall and would have won if he hadn't. He only won because of that setup...
And to make it even more insane, they actually let him keep those points, despite the victory being a total farce orchestrated by the leadership...

So yeah, let's talk about "fairness" when it comes to the FIA and how they hand out penalties. 🤦
