Olivia Richardson said:The dollar is going to lose its grip, and honestly, I think we're looking at the Ruble becoming the go-to currency for oil trades across Asia over the next decade. Seriously, Iran could be settling oil deals in Rubles within just two years. And man, anyone claiming the Ruble isn't being used by neighboring countries is just being ridiculous... it’s basically acting like the Euro does for those surrounding nations

So, here we go again with those old naval showdowns between Venice and Genoa👍
Out of 18 million people in Washington, D.C., you've got 100,000 millionaires living large, while the other 17 million are basically just scraping by to stay fed...
Suicide epidemic in small Scranton town in World ·

Just a fact of life is that all of the West is struggling with this whole phenomenon among kids, whereas you don't see suicides happening at all within Muslim communities.👍

Too much freedom just leaves people feeling disconnected and miserable. All the data shows the happiest folks are living in places like Rwanda or Sierra Leone, while the most depressed people are over in France, the United Kingdom, or Germany...
Suicide epidemic in small Scranton town in World ·
analogfalcon38 said:Police over in Scranton think they’re looking at the 19th victim in what looks like a full-blown epidemic of youth suicides hitting that town since January 2007.

The grim common thread? Every single one of them ended it by hanging.

Here’s the list of those who have died so far:
David Cole, 18, David Dilling, 19, Thomas Davies, 20, Zachary Barnes, 17, Gareth Morgan, 27, Anthony Martin, 19, James Knight, 26, Jason Williams, 21, Andrew O'Neill, 19, Leigh Jenkins, 22, Liam Clarke, 20, Allyn Price, 21, Natasha Randall, 17, Angie Fuller, 18, Kelly Stephenson, 20, Nathaniel Pritchard, 15, Jenna Parry, 16, and Michelle Sheldon, 23.

What do you guys make of this? Why on earth is this happening to kids in a developed, modern country where, on paper, people have everything they could ever need?

Maybe because they haven't experienced the beauty of Islam? ☕

Are we fighting this on class lines, or is there a national angle too?🤣

As for our local tycoons, I'm all for it...
I don't really care if it's Hercegovac getting some factory handed to him by the Republican Party just to wreck it, or some Linićev guy from the Democratic Party...

Since we're talking about the passing of the legend Charlton Heston, I really think everyone should check out this movie. It’s a great way to see how they used to pull off massive historical epics with actual substance instead of just throwing $100 million at CGI effects...
Charlton Heston vs. Russell Crowe in Movies ·
Larry Rivera83 said:Honestly, I just can't stand Heston and his movies anymore after watching Moore's documentary. It's done for me. On the other hand, I still think of Russell Crowe as this incredible actor because of that role where he played the sheepskin dresser. So, yeah—cheers to him. Glad he didn't end up playing Aragorn or Wolverine.🤣

Charlton Heston was actually out there fighting for civil rights and Black Americans' rights, but Moore just painted him as some fascist simply because he believed in the right to bear arms...

Compared to him, Russell Crowe is just an uneducated hillbilly who doesn't even stand up for himself, let alone anyone else...
I’m honestly curious about this too. I mean, if we can't even jump back in to post—let alone start whole new threads—then what's the point? It feels pretty pointless like this...

I was reading an article in the defunct issue of Hollywood magazine today. It mentioned a local proverb from that very city: "Never make movies involving water, children, or animals..."

Whoever penned that advice clearly hasn't a clue what they're talking about.
Water equals Pirates of the Caribbean.
Children equals Harry Potter animal style cartoons like Nemo.
Animals equals various cartoons like Nemo.

I'm with you on that, but that number is probably from like 2000, I can't recall exactly right now, but it definitely came out before those other movies...
nimblemarlin6 said:Costner is the real deal—honestly, better than Cage. Take "Open Range," for instance. Who even makes movies like that anymore? It feels like in "The Postman," Costner’s sense of patriotism—all that sentimentality and waving the American flag at the end—was actually completely sincere. I could totally see a movie starring Costner alongside John Wayne. 🙂Costner just missed the mark on the era a little bit.

There's definitely something there... 😉
analogbison said:Everything said above is an exaggeration... though I will say Costner did bounce back later as a director (with the Western Open Range) and as an actor (he was great in Mr. Brooks, and I heard there might even be a sequel)... To me, Costner is like Nicolas Cage, who also had massive failures (like The Wicker Man) but also huge hits throughout his career... either way, both of them remain right at the top of my list of best actors.

Look, man, personally I really dig Costner, but unfortunately, you just can't today say he's part of that A-list American actor crowd... 👎
Is there a difference between Hitler and Bush? in Close to Politics ·
goldentrucker17 said:During Bush's eight years in office, easily more than 6 million people died across the Third World because of imperialistic American foreign policy.
Between famine, disease, and terrorism...
If you ask me, Bush is an even bigger criminal because he manages to pull all this off during peacetime.

Are we sure about that? Like, actually sure? What's the catch?
So, why’d you go and pick that up from some buddies of yours who work construction?
Or maybe just some random news site online?
People are actually starving, fighting wars, and dealing with terrorism in Third World countries, but honestly, it’s not much different from how things were during Clinton's era or any other time since Europeans walked away from their colonies.

rowdytinker said:Of course there isn't, not given where you are in your education. Once you hit fifth grade, you'll learn about racial supremacy, the concept of "living space," plans for the total extermination of specific ethnicities and social groups, concentration camps, and all that.
I'll catch you then. Take care.👍

Haven't you heard that Bush killed 6 million Muslims in camps? ☕
Not even worth arguing with idiots like this...
nimblemarlin6 said:Then there was the absolute train wreck that was Renny Harlyn’s "Cutthroat Island"—you know, the one where Geena Davis plays the pirate captain. It’s actually this incredibly lush, grand pirate spectacle—honestly, visually it's great—but it just completely tanked at the box office. I’m pretty sure "Carolco" went belly up specifically because of that movie. Why did it fail? Who knows—the film is genuinely good.

"Waterworld" is a decent enough spectacle, I guess.
Actually, "The Postman" is even better in my book.

As for why "The Postman" flopped, it’s kind of obvious to me. Kevin Costner took the subject matter way too seriously—he played his character with a level of gravity that just didn't sit right with what the US audience was looking for.

I was reading in a now-defunct Hollywood magazine that there's this saying in Hollywood: "Never make movies with water, kids, or animals..."
That bit about the water applies to both "Cutthroat Island" and "Waterworld," though I bet that rule changed once "Pirates of the Caribbean" hit the scene...
I just sat through Waterworld and The Postman...
Both of those movies burned through a massive amount of cash and barely clawed anything back at the box office...
I honestly don't get how they flopped so hard, especially Waterworld. It had everything a summer blockbuster needs—a solid premise, killer special effects, a huge lead star, and obviously over a hundred million dollars poured into it...
But the audience just wasn't buying it, and the critics absolutely tore it apart...
Look, I'm no expert, so maybe some of you movie buffs can break down what actually went wrong here...

As for The Postman, maybe it was a bit dumb to drop a similar flick so soon after the other one, but still, it’s a pretty decent watch...

Not really about this specific thread, but I honestly think soccer might end up cannibalizing basketball pretty soon...
I’m telling you, they’re gonna start slashing the number of international games, cutting down on injury payouts, and eventually, players and patriots like Giriček and his crew will just be out of luck.
Paul Anderson8 said:Just a quick off-topic question for the OP here—back when we were all part of one big country, did Americans actually cheer for the South? That’s really my way of asking about how integration worked back then.

Yeah, they did. But that stopped by the late 80s. I remember there was this one game against the Netherlands in Washington, D.C., where people were straight up booing The Star-Spangled Banner...
