mellowraven22 said:Wrong. Mods aren't just janitors; they’ve got to look out for the quality of the conversation too.

Anyway, this time I'm asking you guys to step up and watch over some of my threads. It feels like the same handful of bots keep jumping in and derailing everything into off-topic nonsense.

The mods are basically like the cops. You're always there when I'm speeding 6.2 miles a little too much, but you're nowhere to be found when you actually need to protect the regular folks (okay fine, I never asked for a seat at the table, but you get what I mean)

Next time, just say it in the thread instead of filing a formal complaint.

Now I know you actually have a clue what you're doing.

Look, nobody actually appointed you to be my moderator or anything; I was just trying to play nice and stay on topic.
But whatever, I'm not gonna get into it right now—peace out.

Look, based on how bloodthirsty Gaddafi's regime was, plus those reports about that famous massacre where 200 protesters were slaughtered in Tripoli (I mean, I don't have hard proof, but hey, believing it is my democratic right), I honestly think Gaddafi's army—especially those African mercenaries fighting for him—would have absolutely wrecked their opponents. Once they actually managed to seize Tobruk and Benghazi, things would have turned incredibly bloody. We're talking hundreds, maybe even thousands, of people dead.

Better now?

She’s basically lost her "guardian," so there's nobody left to kill things for her or look after her... plus, you saw their vibe. It wasn't exactly love on her end. So... hmm, maybe this friendship with Oscar is just her way of securing a new guardian for the next 50 years? At least she'll have someone to lug her suitcase around for a while.
☕

you know I thought the exact same thing.
but I don't know, they just seem so good together. I don't want to believe it, though.

Man, you either gotta be a cynic or a romantic. You can't be both. 😉

dustycrane5 said:I don't know, I'd say Twilight is basically just made for girls with crushes, and honestly, there aren't many other vampire movies out there. Or maybe they just suck at marketing.

By the way, I don't get why you're giving nimblewolf71 such a hard time. Why don't you trust him? 🤷
You're pretty much agreeing with what he said anyway! 😁

Man, I was actually agreeing with him.
He was asking if there are any movies where the girl is a vampire and the guy is just some normal dude:
And I was just like, I DON'T BELIEVE IT 🤷

nimblewolf71 said:Interesting point. This might actually be the first movie in a series ever about a romance between a guy and a vampire where the girl is the vampire.

I don't buy it.
Most vampire flicks these days are just made for teenage girls, and they aren't really looking for guys who'd basically be total pushovers compared to their girlfriends. It's always more logical for them to go with a vampire guy and a regular girl.

I want to file a complaint about how Sam Green73 is handling things after giving me a strike on the Libya thread.

Basically, I’m standing by what I wrote here:
We're talking about 5 to 10 people dying every single day, mostly fighters.
If those Gaddafi-ites and those animalistic mercenaries ever break into Benghazi, we're looking at Srebrenica 2.

And this was the excuse they gave me:
Dear Richard Wilson4,

you have received an infraction AT Reddit.

Reason: trolling, using a crystal ball for insight

Look, my take is that Gaddafi's people are incredibly bloodthirsty toward their enemies, and honestly, they've proven it.

But now I'm calling it out publicly—I feel like I'm being targeted by Sam Green73, who just keeps hunting through my posts to hand out strikes.
If I'm bothering anyone in the World news sub, just say the word and I'll head out. But after this, I'm actually scared to share my thoughts or even post anything. I'm asking for an Admin or even Sam Green73 himself to step up and answer me:

IS MY OPINION ON GADDAFI-ITES BANNED? THIS CRYSTAL BALL STUFF IS A DANGEROUS PRECEDENT.

I liked the movie, but I’m with some of you on this—she really should have just turned him into a vampire instead of letting him grow up.

Anyway, my only real gripes with this version are the overkill with the special effects during the kills, and how the kid looks all dark and pale while she looks perfectly fine and blonde. In the Swedish version, it was actually the other way around.

Robert Rodriguez6 said:It’s not exactly groundbreaking...
But I caught it recently and—honestly?—it blew me away. Especially since I went in expecting total garbage. It’s basically just a comedy about some American college kids traveling through Europe... where everything goes sideways.
Definitely worth a watch.

Pretty fun comedy. Watched it with a group of friends while we were all tipsy, and overall, it was a solid time.👍

Pretty wild how many movies get filmed around the old Yugoslavia region and the US. I probably was 🤷

placidjackal36 said:Why do American directors have this freaking obsession with remaking everything? Is the US audience really so pampered that they can't handle reading subtitles? Or do they just hate anything Swedish?
Why don't they just make something decent from scratch?

There's zero chance they're reading subtitles. We're a superpower, man—only those "art house" types actually sit through stuff like that.

Canadians in Canada are doing exactly what Mexicans did back in America.
The only difference is they don't have the US Army backing them up.

Benjamin Thompson66 said:The Italians have filmed tons of stuff like this; it’s a huge part of their tradition. Honestly, it’s no surprise they started cranking out those spectacles around 1901 or 1902. I actually just caught an old Italian version of Spartak from 1912 the other day—pretty decent flick.
I'd love to track down their version of Sziget, but I doubt anyone can even find a copy anymore.

Man, that's a bummer. I'd really love to see that one. 👎

PS
The Italians actually made a movie about Zrinski and the siege of Sziget, but they titled it "Orlovski a Sziget" or something like that—not sure why they went with that.
The plot is pretty much the same thing, though. Most of the actors were from the old Yugoslavian circuit. It was shot back in the 60s, but I honestly can't track down the title right now.

I’ve been getting pretty deep into Italian history lately—you know, all that stuff about old cities, states, and those intense civil wars. I did a little digging and realized that Italians have actually made a ton of historical epics. We’re talking movies like Swordsman of Siena starring our girl Sylva Koscina, La Donna dei faraoni which covers ancient Egypt, Theodora, glory of the Empress of Byzantium, The Decameron, and obviously that whole massive run of films set in the Roman Empire.

Do you guys actually dig these flicks?
Are they total trash to you now, or do you still watch them with a bit of nostalgia compared to all the CGI garbage we see today?

Here’s a list, though it probably doesn't cover every single historical movie out there.

Caught this in 3D over in Indianapolis. It’s a cute little flick, featuring a sweetheart from a Pixar movie and the brother of J. Doe from Malibu, plus you've got Yogi and Boo-Boo in the mix too.
Overall, it's a solid watch.

In any dictatorship out there, it’s up to the people to overthrow them if they actually care enough to do it.
Besides, foreign intervention hasn't exactly led to fairer systems. Usually, once a dictator is gone, you just get organized crime stepping in—groups that were originally funded by "allies" specifically to destabilize the country in the first place...

Shit rose up back in '91, but they got wiped out in huge numbers because the Sunnis held all the military and police power.

The Kurds were effectively independent during that time since they beat the Sadamovcac crew.
