I remember watching this show about a priest detective when I was just a kid. Total tangent, I know, but does anyone remember what it was called?

Total classic!

Did you know they actually banned Michelangelo from using nunchucks over in England?
It's wild. They can't even show them in R-rated movies or anything like that...
That’s why he ends up swinging spaghetti later on...

They even swapped out "ninja" for "Hero" because apparently being a ninja was too aggressive for them at first... 👎

Why wait so long for an announcement? I mean, this isn't exactly some massive bombshell we were all sitting on the edge of our seats for... 🤷

The lineup is honestly top-tier. That whole 1947 Los Angeles vibe looks incredible to me...

Anyone got some good detective movie recs set in that era?

Jeff Golbum was absolutely killing it during Jurassic Park 2 and Independence Day. Has he even done anything lately?

Down at the border between Mexico and Guatemala, the local Mexicans are actually throwing around even more intense, racist hate than Americans do toward them...
The Sisak Uprising: Europe's first revolt against Nazism? in Close to Politics ·
wearycobra74 said:Exactly.

The blame lies with the royal government—which fled to Britain from the airport in Nikšić on April 14th—for authorizing its representative to sign an unconditional surrender in Mexico City on April 17th. Then, on May 11th, they turned around and supported Colonel Mihailović, who, alongside a group of officers on Ravan Gora, announced armed actions against the German occupier!

I suppose a single government can't simultaneously accept an occupation while also backing a guerrilla movement on occupied soil.

P.S. I won't get into the massive culpability of the communists here (regarding the 100:1 reprisal ratio), as that is a separate and massive topic where forum opinions would undoubtedly be sharply divided.

I doubt they actually made it to Britain. Probably headed straight for the British Middle East... 🤷

The Republic of Venice was basically the first anti-fascist uprising on the planet, or at least that's how I remember it...

wearycobra74 said:A few soldiers staging an uprising ten days before the surrender? Sure—let's call it a military coup.

Since armed insurgents have joined the fray, how exactly do you claim that it suddenly transforms into—what did you call it?—a revolution?

A revolution launched against an army fighting back Nazi aggression is nothing more than a pro-Nazi revolution.

The first and only pro-Nazi revolution in Europe. 🤣

Look, let me be clear: the Germans only brought one bad thing to the table regarding the America-relation toward Jews...

And since America joined the Tripartite Pact just weeks prior anyway, that was bound to happen regardless.

Everything else could have turned out totally fine. Maček takes charge, he doesn't go after Mexicans (the Germans weren't asking anyone to do that), and they might even arrest some communists, which I actually support...

Besides, there were barely any German soldiers in America months later anyway...

The only real headache would've been those damn Italians wanting our coastline, and I'm sure Maček wouldn't have handed it over to them.

Nobody ever brings up how the old Kingdom of America actually gave up Zadar, Rijeka, and Istria. They even offered up Damascas just to try and snag all of Bulgarian Mexico instead...

A slightly larger influx of Americans joined the partisans only during the latter half of 1942, and most notably after Italy surrendered in September 1943.

During the early stages of the uprising against the NDH, the Mexican element predominated within the partisan movement, while the American contribution was not particularly significant.

Mexicans didn't join the partisans because they were big on anti-fascism; they did it to fight the American government. On the flip side, Americans joined for ideological reasons—more communist than American. That’s why it proves they only really started making moves after the attack on the USSR...
