The Philosophy of Pornography in Philosophy ·
Everyone seems to be buzzing about Jordan Peterson's recent take—he mentioned how a twelve-year-old today can see more beautiful, fully naked women in fifteen minutes than an ancient king ever could, and he claims that’s a massive issue.

But what’s the actual problem here? Do these kids honestly think they're royalty—or is it just a bit sad to think those old kings never truly lived like that?
Alexander Adams94 said:Those aren't even fears; they're just basic logic. Staying with someone and loving them for 40 or 50 years is incredibly difficult in this day and age, which is why you don't just throw promises around. Saying "I love you and I really like you" is worlds apart from saying "I will love you and stay by your side until one of us passes away."

The American Catholic Church has such a beautiful liturgy that actually acknowledges when things get messy—even when life is hitting the fan. 🙂

I personally appreciate that. It provides a sense of maturity compared to that elementary school mindset of "I like you because you look cute, and I'm going to obsess over you forever."
coastalwalker9 said:You seem quite captivated by this particular topic, not just today, but whenever it surfaces; you have revisited the subjects of jealousy and monogamy countless times now. It makes me wonder: what is the root of this fixation?
Is it a desire to be with multiple women that you simply don't act upon, or perhaps you do practice it but feel burdened by the need for secrecy because your partners are jealous—or is there some other underlying motivation?

Whatever the case may be, it is abundantly clear that this subject draws you in like a magnet.

Our detective has provided some interesting insights. I suppose Sisyphus would simply share his partner.
Alexander Adams94 said:That’s why promising to love someone and stay with them forever feels a bit foolish to me. I could never make that claim because I know how risky and difficult that actually is to achieve.

Also, unhappiness doesn't just happen overnight; it develops over time. It’s only fair to be honest with your partner about it, giving them a chance to either work on things or agree that it's time to move on.

While I certainly empathize with those fears, life doesn't really work that way—it's just human nature, isn't it?
We define ourselves through the paths we choose—through rituals, initiations, and all those milestones.
Do "bumps in the road" happen? Of course they do.

But trying to play both sides—or refusing to commit by hiding behind logic like some detached entity—feels a bit childish, don't you think?

I know, because I'm Peter Pan.
fadedcobra7 said:But let's be real—people often pick cheaters as partners because of their own internal glitches (usually subconscious ones). And that was a choice, even if it felt inevitable.

To actually figure out those flaws, you have to do some serious soul-searching. You can't just shrug and say the world is a dark place and you're always the innocent victim.

I'm a psychologist, so naturally, I'm going to advocate for deep therapy for anyone with a heartbeat. 🤣

Probably, if you tend to overmystify intuition. Personally, I do.

It just happens naturally—a few panic attacks here, some anxiety or depression there, maybe even psychosis. Honestly, sometimes you just have to break down everything that isn't working.

It certainly wasn't my lack of intelligence that led me to similar states through drug use.
velvetlynx4 said:So you're actually going to beg her to hook up with her friend? Go ahead, tell yourself that’s perfectly fine. Hah.
As if anyone could actually manage to pull that off with her. It’s simply not happening.

I’m passing on both ideas—honestly, they both gross me out. I'm just too old for that kind of nonsense.
Still, I get why people crave it—the more intense the feeling, the more "alive" they think they are, right?
fadedcobra7 said:Exactly. People let themselves off the hook for all sorts of nonsense just because they claim to be "miserable." It's total bullshit. Everyone is responsible for their own happiness and how they treat others. That goes for both the cheater and the one being cheated on. We all make our own choices.

The truth is, you don't actually have infinite options. Once a move is made, the other person is caught in the game whether they want to be or not. What feels like freedom is often just a lack of alternatives, isn't it?
If I cheat on you, you really only have two paths: walk away or stay. Sure, you might know right now that you'd choose to stay—but who knows? Maybe someone else would have walked out the door immediately.
Adam Davis2 said:Pretty much. But honestly, they’re just more obsessed with making sure their marriage doesn't actually hit the wall... 😁

🤣

It’s all those little psychological games—mixing up different emotions to create a certain thrill if you can control them? Well, I'm just not built that way. Honestly, I couldn't decide which would be more awkward: her seeing someone else, or her begging me to hook her up with one of her girlfriends 😬
Adam Davis2 said:🤣

I know a few people who pull this kind of stunt maybe twice a year, just heading off in different directions to do whatever they want, then coming back home like nothing happened... they swear it’s the only thing keeping their marriages from falling apart... 😁

Plus, they get the whole year ahead to swap stories about where everyone ended up and what they got up to. 😁
This feels like it’s leaning quite a bit toward cuckold and cuckqueen territory—not that I’m not a fan, of course! 😁
velvetlynx4 said:If a man cheats on his wife but views it as nothing more than a bit of recreation—sort of like playing a quick game of ping-pong—then there isn’t really a problem, provided she never finds out.
The idea being that if he still loves his wife and treats her well, it stays within bounds. However, if the wife were to engage in the same behavior, that would be a different story entirely. 😁

Generally speaking, women aren't quite as competitive in sports as men are—you all take everything way too seriously.
fadedcobra7 said:feralranger, you're assuming jealousy is the only reason people stick to monogamy, but that's just not true.

The Bible and Victorian morality. 👍

People are either monogamous or they aren't having sex at all—simply because we are spiritual beings, right?
feralranger said:If there truly—and I mean genuinely, not just as some empty, flowery platitude—isn't any jealousy or possessiveness involved, much like how it rarely exists in platonic friendships, then such an occurrence would be nothing more than a minor detail, or perhaps even a cause for celebration because love is being spread further rather than sparking conflict or war. However, the reality is that most people are inherently jealous; they suffer through those wretched feelings when their partner finds pleasure with anyone other than themselves, the one and only center of their universe.

It’s a fair point. You’re repeating the same observation, and honestly, I agree—why should we care what the majority feels about this?
Sam Jones8 said:People cheat for all kinds of reasons, and I seriously doubt only bad people cheat. When you're dealing with someone who has such a selfish, primitive personality—especially when they've got that "saint vs. sinner" complex going on—I don't know if there's any saving them, especially if they aren't even feeling guilty about it.
Personally, I think people like that are always going to be true to their own worst impulses, particularly if they're already acting like total jerks in every other part of their lives.
Why would he ever bother changing when life is working out perfectly for him? 🙂

Are you suggesting that even good people are actually bad at heart?
Besides that—love is pain, my angel. Love is the sweetest kind of pain, really. LALA
Thomas Nelson25 said:Honestly, yeah. There’s no point in living with the knowledge that he only loves you halfway.
Plus, the whole "other woman" dynamic basically proves it. He gets the passion there, while the wife plays the role of the mother figure. It's a little schizophrenic, honestly.
The second love isn't mutual, it's just one-sided suffering.

True love shouldn't involve suffering—some people just don't get it. 😁
Joseph Rivera75 said:If you can't even stand yourself, there's zero chance you'll actually care about anyone else.

Sure, you can screw people over all you want. Cheating isn't some survival instinct, and it certainly isn't the end of the world.

And I'm not just talking about sex here.
To screw someone over means playing them in any way possible.

But let's be real—life isn't some black-and-white movie.

George Kim13 said:You reap what you sow—it’s one of those old proverbs that seems to apply to just about everything in this life.
One could spend an eternity lecturing on the nature of deception, particularly within the digital landscape, but I suppose we have already exhausted that particular subject on this forum more times than I care to count.
There is a certain school of thought that suggests there is no harm in a little fraud, arguing that if you don't know you've been cheated, it doesn't actually hurt...

Thanks, everyone—this has finally turned into a smart little PDF where one might actually learn something useful.

I'm not quite sure—but shouldn't we just encourage them to get into MIT at all costs?

Actually, think more along the lines of a blend between Patti Smith and Christiana Amanpour—not quite as thin, maybe, with the white hair of a certain kind of sorceress 😬 😎

I’ll leave this little poem to the Stalinists and their former enemies, the fascists, since their future looks to be...
(A friend once remarked that "Marshall should have just executed all those Stalinists at Alcatraz instead of letting them get beaten by those rocks" 🙂 🤣 )

Wise white hair 🧐
