Justin Timberlake in Music ·
First off, I have no clue when they started allowing threads dedicated to just one single song on this forum.
Second, we all know how much people can't stand Justin Timberlake—so it's pretty obvious this thread is just gonna turn into a massive flame war where everyone starts trashing him and fighting with each other.
Third, look, I don't even listen to J.T., but the guy clearly has talent—I mean, he wouldn't be that huge if he didn't, right? You should probably actually hear the music before you start hating on it. Personally, I dig his more acoustic stuff—less pop, more indie folk vibes. His voice might not be his strongest suit, but then again, nobody gives the Foo Fighters a hard time about it since they're part of a band.

Thoughts on this one? Is it actually any better than my current Nvidia 7600 GS—or am I just wasting my time?

(just caught up on the previous posts ^^)

Gonna go ahead and download "Love" and "Electric" since I clearly have a thing for masterpieces.

Honestly, this is one of my all-time favorite bands. unnamed is absolute perfection—they’ve got plenty of other solid tracks, too. I am seriously counting down the days until the new album drops.

Feeling ashamed of failing in front of others in Psychology & Therapy ·
Ugh, tell me about it—I hate being grilled about college when my grades are basically in freefall right now... I’m staring down the barrel of failing the year, and honestly? I have zero clue if I can actually clear all these finals by the fall. But here’s the kicker: I’m not even scared of failing the classes—I’m terrified of the fallout. The judgment, you know? It’ll blow up in my face with my family, my relatives, probably even people at school... everyone will suddenly decide I’m just some lazy loser who’s given up on life. Okay, sure, sometimes I tell myself I’ve already hit rock bottom, but then I catch myself actually hitting the books because deep down, I know I’ve still got it.

I'm with you on this one. 👍

Stop Making Sense, Jonathan Demme, 1984. + big suit!

"New York's Talking Heads were inspired by cybernetics , urban Architecture and French-speaking serial killers. But the strangest thing of all was that they also made you want to dance."

+

"Most concert films are collector's items. They’re for the hardcore fans—people looking for a souvenir of a night they lived through in person. Usually, these things feel outdated the second a band splits up or starts using massive stadium pyrotechnics. But even though Talking Heads disbanded in 1991, generations of listeners have still been able to catch a glimpse into their bizarre universe.

Seriously, this band was anything but standard. They pulled off stuff on stage that most groups wouldn't dare touch. Take the movie's intro, for instance—when Byrne opens a show with a stripped-back , acoustic version of ‘ Psycho Killer ’ with nothing but an 808 beat keeping him company. He’s leaning his neck out like some kind of ostrich, wearing those oversized suit trousers over white socks while tapping along. Some bands just go for scale—and Talking Heads could definitely bring the house down when they felt like it—but David Byrne had this gutsy way of handling stage presence, and Demme caught every bit of it."

+ + + (the first one—darker than a shark movie, but a killer read.)

Why isn't there a dedicated thread for this legendary band? To me, they're absolute geniuses.

I've been spinning their album and I am totally digging the vibe—especially the guitar work, the rhythm, and that eccentric vocal style...

Violence vs. Pornography in Psychology ·
Everyone’s obsessed with talking about hetero stuff—what about same-sex encounters? 🙄

If they actually aired porn on TV, I wouldn't even touch it—too gross. Maybe it's just my super conservative upbringing, or maybe I find sex totally shallow since there's zero mental stimulation involved... or hey, maybe it's just because it's straight sex. Honestly, watching two hot guys is way more entertaining 😁

Yeah, the topic definitely exists—it just has some weird-ass name, so I couldn't track it down on Google.

MGMT - Congratulations
image
MGMT decided to ditch the pop hits like "Kids" for this one—it’s pure psych. Some tracks are straight-up annoying, but then you get some fun ones like "Brian Eno."😁...some that are just super dreamy ("Congratulations")

Rufus Wainwright - Unknown

Never listened to him before—but a buddy told me this record hits totally different since it's basically just piano now instead of all those layers they used to have. Personally? "The Dream" is the winner for me.

Turin Brakes - Outbursts
image
Honestly? Just as good as everything else they've put out—maybe even better. They ditched the major labels to do their own thing, totally independent and free from all that corporate pressure. That's how you get an indie pop-folk gem like this.

Red Sparowes - The Fear is Excruciating, but Therein Lies The Answer.

Man, this is easily my favorite post-rock band—and their new album just dropped today. Honestly? It's actually good. 🙂

The Radio Dept. — Clinging to a Scheme

This album is killer—honestly, pretty much everything they drop is. It’s that dreamy shoegaze vibe, though it's weird because Freddie and The Trojan Horse isn't even on here despite all the hype. Maybe it's for the best? We've definitely had our fill of Freddie lately, haven't we? 😛

David Byrne and Fatboy Slim—Here Lies Love. Pure madness, right?

alright, so is it actually any better than that NVIDIA Radeon X1600 I was running before?

for instance, this GeForce card lists VGA+DVI+HDMI, but my old one had TV-Out, HDTV, and 2xDVI

look, I don't really know my way around this stuff—that's why I'm asking. I'm not trying to end up with something worse than what I already had.

I need a new GPU since my old one bit the dust—if that’s even a thing (and I’m pretty much certain it is). Looking to drop no more than $167 on it. Right now I'm rocking an NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS.

How to stop biting my nails? in Health ·
So, I’ve been a nail biter since I was 15—now I’m 21 and honestly, I can’t seem to kick the habit. It’s constant—while I’m watching TV, while I’m studying (which is actually when it’s most annoying), or basically whenever my hands aren't busy doing something else. When I tell people it’s just like a smoking addiction, they totally buy it... nobody believes me. They have no clue how brutal this actually is. Right now, my index finger on my right hand is a total disaster. Every time I bite it down, it gets all mangled and looks horrific until it finally heals—only for me to go back and do it again. What's weird is that even though I bite all my nails, this one specific finger is always the messiest. The worst part? While it's trying to heal—which feels like it takes forever—I have to constantly hide it so people don't see. And by "healing," I mean waiting for the nail to grow back naturally, but maybe there’s some way to speed up the process 🤷

Doesn't even matter anymore. Whatever issues I started this thread over? Gone. Spent today hanging out with a buddy and honestly—it felt good. Just being myself... and I guess that's always how it's gonna be.

edited: I mean, why does lecturing people about your hobbies even count as proof of intelligence? Like, why do you feel the need to constantly drone on about everything you've read or learned just to make sure everyone thinks you're smart? To me, stupidity is basically just people being unable to understand me when I don't use super literal, basic language or if they miss a really obvious connection. By the way, I have this friend who is a total walking encyclopedia when it comes to music—he knows every single song, album, and release ever made. He’s absolutely brilliant at it, but man, he’s such a slow conversationalist. I honestly have to watch what I say and keep things incredibly simple so I don't trip him up with my own random associations, because he just can't always keep up.

I'm pretty slow myself—which is probably why I feel pretty dim. I don't even get jokes half the time; I take everything way too seriously. Put me in a group of more than two people and I just shut down. Honestly, the only time I can actually relax and crack a joke is when I'm talking one-on-one, eye-to-eye.
Sometimes I wonder—if I’m crushing math and picking up foreign languages like it’s nothing while everyone else my age is struggling just to pass... does that actually mean I'm smart? Or am I just kidding myself? Everyone’s got a thing, right? Plus, I heard some professor at my state university say true intelligence is just having a massive range of interests. Well, I’ve got plenty of interests—I just haven't gone deep on any of them yet. There's this guy from the start of the story who actually commits to his hobbies and masters them... then when he starts rambling about everything he knows, he just spills all this knowledge everywhere, and I'm just sitting there nodding along... it makes me feel pretty dim because I have nothing to contribute. Maybe I could talk music? I know a ton about it, but I always end up thinking he wouldn't even care about that kind of stuff anyway.
Jerry Martinez5 said:Look: if someone is actually your friend, they aren't sitting there thinking you're an idiot. We don't hang out with people we think are stupid.

The issue isn't that you're actually "stupid"—it's just that your ego took a hit.😢
And once you feel that way, there is zero chance of fixing it by trying to prove how "smart" you are. Honestly, trying too hard to look intelligent is the fastest way to look like a moron. (Personal rule: whenever have I actually looked truly foolish? Usually when I was desperately trying to act smart 🙄 ).

It would probably be best if you could just stop dwelling on it. Go do stuff you actually enjoy, since you're good at it—that’s the real cure for low self-esteem.

There are plenty of people out there who go out of their way to prove they're idiots; those are the ones you should avoid. Just remember this: the easiest way to look stupid is by trying too hard to look smart.

Man, thanks a ton for the advice 👍
Sandra Parker3 said:So, how exactly did they tell you?

Found out through his other best friend...🙄
Kimberly Wood72 said:Why even bother trying to prove anything to him? Honestly, I don't think you’ll actually feel any better afterward. And even if you do manage to prove your point, how are you going to know? He might just act like he didn't get it. He’ll probably just play dumb, which might end up annoying him, but hey, at least it'll give you a good laugh. But seriously, if you don't actually think you're stupid, why do you care what his opinion is? And for heaven's sake, why are you even hanging out with this guy? For the sake of your own self-esteem, you should probably just cut him loose. It'll stop weighing on you so much.

Because he's literally one of the only two real friends I've got in this life.
