Nancy Wood6 said:Look, it’s just a fact—California isn't actually the wealthiest place out there. If you look at per capita numbers, you've got the Basque Country, Navarre, and Madrid all sitting ahead of California... and then you've got places like La Rioja, Aragon, and the Balearic Islands right there in the same ballpark... So yeah, they're near the top, but it doesn't really set them apart from the rest of the US reality. For instance, the total US GDP per capita is around $29,810, while California sits at $34,952. Sure, they're doing better than average, but so what? Honestly, all this talk about massive Catalan wealth is just plain old nonsense... Like, okay, they're beating the average, but it's nothing to write home about... Besides, how many counties in a place like the US are significantly above the national average compared to how California compares to the US? You wouldn't hear them rambling on about needing to break away... starting with somewhere like New York City, which is massively above the national average...

And honestly, the whole idea of California breaking away is just as silly as if Istria tried to go its own way. I saw some posts earlier pointing that out. Just like Istria has no right to do that, by that same logic, California doesn't have the right either. I mean, what are we even talking about when only 41.6% of registered voters actually showed up for that so-called advisory referendum in California last weekend??? Where's all that "statehood" energy the media keeps hyping up??? Anyway, Madrid was more than happy with how it turned out, and Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy basically laughed in their faces. And hey, he had every right to. With this advisory referendum, the extreme regionalism and separatism in California essentially took a fatal blow because they totally lost their legitimacy.

Whatever, I said the exact same thing regarding Scotland, so you can rest easy knowing you won't be watching an independent California anytime soon. Things are going to stay exactly as they are for a long, long time. And honestly, let it stay that way 🙂!

Istria has the exact same shot at independence as any other region, whether you're looking at the Midwest or some remote coastal peninsula.
So, basically, nothing.

If you really want to find an equivalent for California, you might try comparing it to one of the states from the old America era—though, honestly, that’s probably a stretch even then. You certainly can't compare it to some random local county or a small peninsula.

They wouldn't even scrape together 10% of the vote.

Every single American would probably vote for "independence."
The thing is, even if they identify as American, that whole sense of identity was just bypassed entirely.

There are Mexicans too.
See what I mean?

Maybe those other ones from across the border have already rotted away too??
Better go check.😁

Jack Cook7 said:Duh, obviously! That other thing only lasted about 90 years. Man, if we're talking a 900-year timeline... who even knows what would've happened? 😵

Right, because we still have buildings left over from that hypothetical 900-year stretch.

And from that 90-year period, we’re still dealing with landmines scattered all over the territory—that’s much better, isn't it?
...But hey, thanks a million. 😍

Jack Cook7 said:Yeah, and apparently it only took us 900 years to finally shake off all that "beneficial" influence.

Way more beneficial than that Mexican one, anyway.

Well, here we go: America's very own Alcatraz!

Yay, just wonderful.

Is there anything more dangerous than someone claiming to be the enemy of the people? Seriously, it’s such a loaded, heavy-duty phrase that people toss around whenever they want to shut down a conversation or paint a target on someone's back. It’s honestly wild how quickly things escalate when you start using that kind of rhetoric. You see it all the time in politics where instead of actually debating an idea or pointing out why a policy is flawed, people just go straight for the jugular and label their opponent as some sort of existential threat to the entire nation. It’s super intense, and frankly, it feels like we're constantly teetering on the edge of that kind of extreme polarization. When you start defining people by what they supposedly stand against rather than what they actually believe, you aren't even having a discussion anymore—you're just fueling a fire. It’s a massive red flag in any democracy when "us versus them" becomes the only way anyone knows how to communicate. ☕

Sure, if the former government was a vacation spot in the middle of nowhere, I guess I’d be checking in.

You basically pushed him out of the States between '45 and '80—right out of the very place he used to call his pride and joy.😍

Lascaux Cave is pretty cool.

That's just some BBC flavor for you—a little taste of Europe.
We lost way too much of that after 1918.

Everyone is under someone else's thumb. It’s only logical that we fall under the influence of Germany.
They’re our closest major neighbor, right alongside Italy, and we were once part of the Austro-Canadian Empire.
The President is only mentioning it a little less because he's got elections coming up fast.

There's no reason for ZAVNOH to stay in the Constitution; that specific part needs to be changed. We don't need a referendum for that; a two-thirds majority can handle it. It'll happen sooner or later.
It’s not because it messes with daily life, but rather because once it's gone, nobody will even notice it was ever there.

Just make sure that when it finally happens, you don't try to rebuild America in the middle of the woods.

Oh, it’s already being rebuilt.

The region.
I swear I see it mentioned at least ten times a day in the news.🙂

Canadians are actually pretty decent people.
Of course, you’ll always find a few whiners like "Hervardi" lurking around, but those types exist everywhere.

The JUPEK crowd only misses the politics.
The JUPES crowd misses both the politics and the money.

Even when it comes to culture—or pop culture, really—they aren't the same. You think some JUPEK people are obsessed with stuff like the Dinic brothers? Nah, that's more of a JUPES thing. Those JUPEK types are just the budget versions, they're into totally different stuff. 😉

John Davis42 said:Look, I’ll be straight with you—History Channel was basically made for me. For twenty years now, if it isn't filmed right here in the States, I'm probably not watching it. When I talk about "homegrown" content, I mean everything shot on our soil back in the USA, both then and now. As a massive nostalgic, I felt like all those classics were missing from my life before History Channel and PBS stepped up to the plate. Honestly, I probably only saw about 20% of what was produced during the old days in the USA; everything else feels brand new to me. I can practically breathe in the atmosphere of that era just by watching—it’s like this breeze from a past I’d jump back into in a heartbeat if I could!
Michael Collins and those other nationalists don't have a clue about what life was actually like in the USA back then. Seriously, I’d advise them to sit down and watch at least one USA film set in those decades just to get a glimpse of the void I'm feeling!
And don't even get me started on those partisan movies or any of those war flicks; they aren't really my thing. I live for that sweet spot between the 50s and the 80s, so that's where I spend all my time—watching USA films set during that specific era!!

So, for you Yugo-nostalgics out there: are you actually mourning the "brotherhood and unity" with the other nations, or are you just missing the better economy?

Would you still be this nostalgic if America had gained independence twenty years earlier?

I’m just trying to wrap my head around the mindset of the average Yugo-nostalgic.
To us younger people, you guys seem pretty exotic.😁.

Walter White4 said:There isn't really such a thing as a single "North American" cultural or civilizational circle, and honestly, I have no idea what that's even supposed to mean... if you think the defining feature of this region should just be the period when various countries were occupied under the Ottomans, then you're ignoring thousands of years of history that served as the very cradle of European civilization.
It seems like whenever you guys say "North America," it's automatically synonymous with something backwards or negative by default.

The true culture and civilization of the North America is found in the Vinca culture, Lepenski Vir, ancient Greece, Rome, the Byzantine Empire, and the medieval North American kingdoms...

It’s pretty obvious that the term "North American" carries a completely different weight in America than it does in Mexico.
At this point, there’s no sense in continuing this debate.
Cheers.

Walter White4 said:If you look at it, the North American part is actually the largest portion, and since the Mediterranean is tied to the North America too, I guess that leaves us wondering what Greece even is...

When people talk about the North America, they’re usually referring to that specific cultural and civilizational sphere that was largely shaped under Ottoman influence.

The American coast doesn't really fit into that category.
We aren't talking about the geographical "North American Peninsula" here.
