I caught Holly Hunter recently in that series >... she was just brilliant playing that seasoned feminist guru type. I’ve actually crossed paths with women exactly like her in real life, so it felt incredibly authentic—I bet Jane Campion knew exactly what she was doing there too.

William Hurt was such an absolute powerhouse as a leading man back in the '80s... I seem to remember his role in The Accidental Tourist being a big one, though honestly, looking back, I can't recall much about the plot itself, just this lingering sense of the atmosphere and the overall feeling that it was just a genuinely great movie. On the flip side, I think I could still replay Kiss of the Spider Woman in my head right now if I wanted to, even after nearly thirty years... some cinematic images just sort of etch themselves deep into your brain, I guess.

Please, don't let it slip your mind, BW in the series Moonlighting... five seasons, 66 episodes, and if you weren't completely floored by his charm back then, I honestly don't think you ever will be 😍

Q&A: General Movie Discussion in Movies ·
Jacob Cooper5 said:I'm still struggling to wrap my head around this, honestly... because you've got all these different crew members on set moving things around—tables, chairs, cars, whatever they need to get the shot.
If I just show up and take a photo of the scene, what does that actually have to do with Cinematography?
In other words, how does that visual style actually weave itself into the fabric of the movie?

Look, choosing the lighting, picking out camera filters, managing grain, depth of field, focus, the final color grade—if you're just some amateur snapping shots on auto mode, sure, you might think you aren't contributing much, but a professional photographer, much like a cinematographer, makes a mountain of technical decisions before they even think about "photographing the scene."
When a film feels blue and gloomy, or bright and vibrant, or maybe even high-contrast black and white, that’s all part of the Cinematography...

Sandra Brown18 said:I mentioned earlier that these posts should probably move over to the Offtopic section so the discussion could actually continue there. We drifted into Offtopic territory pretty much immediately, and since I didn't have the technical ability to manually migrate the thread to the right sub-forum, I just cleared them out... this is a Tourism sub-forum, after all, and for years the Budapest threads here have stayed strictly about travel, so I was worried the conversation would veer off into completely unrelated waters—which, unsurprisingly, it did.😁

Nobody is being victimized here—nobody got flagged, and nothing was deleted unfairly; I just removed the posts following that point because they were heavy on the Offtopic stuff and had zero connection to the actual travel aspects of the thread, except for maybe the last couple which were purely about sightseeing. Besides, the person asking about the Museum already got a thorough answer, so there wasn't really any reason to keep going there.

It’s funny how conveniently you ignore the fact that you were being totally unfair in the follow-up conversation... acting biased, disqualifying regular users, and honestly, just behaving scandalously for someone in a moderator role. You didn't delete those posts because they were "offtopic," you deleted them because you embarrassed yourself and you knew anyone with a shred of neutrality could see it. Those ad hominem attacks you launched at me and another user—and the way you're still sitting here trying to play judge on who is "credible" and who isn't—is just beneath the dignity of a moderator and it's killing the quality of this forum. What you did last night wasn't moderating. Deciding who is a credible user and who isn't? That’s not the job. Getting inside people's heads to speculate on their intentions, guessing their political leanings, making things up regarding Jews or linguistics, and just generally being smeary and accusatory... none of that is part of the role. If you've got the nerve, go ahead and post links to everything through the end.

We're all being penalized by participating in this sub-forum if we have to sit through this level of rudeness, dishonesty, and the total meltdown of an incompetent moderator.

I’m telling you once, please stop trying to read between the lines with me. This is just another accusation of plagiarism—malicious, baseless, and frankly exhausting... I don't go around translating people's work, I simply synthesize information gathered from various sources, providing links for anyone who actually cares to dig deeper.

Hey, Supermoderator, are you seeing this? It’s the same old pattern, and honestly, I find it completely unacceptable...

Just to add, she was being incredibly bold by continuing to provoke Xavier by basically challenging her to provide counterarguments to Magor—talk about a total failure in managing political debate... and then to have the nerve to judge her level of involvement in the thread was just plain uncalled for. It honestly rubbed me the wrong way even more; I mean, what kind of moderator looks down on people and calls them out for simply joining a discussion? This isn't even the first time she’s pulled something like this, and frankly, I don't think the admins should be letting moderators act this way. A moderator shouldn't be allowed to bully forum members like that...

I'm asking that the other moderator (aircanada) step up more often in the Tourism subforum, and if my own posts ever need to be moderated, I'd prefer it if he were the one handling it exclusively.

The moderator went ahead and scrubbed all the evidence of her subpar moderation. I’m asking the admins to please take a look at those deleted posts and actually evaluate how she’s handling things... Honestly, she keeps dragging politics into everything, inserting herself into what should be a civilized discussion among adults, and she can't even wrap up a thread without deleting posts because her bias was so incredibly obvious to everyone watching. Everything that happened afterward regarding my initial mention of the Republican Party and certain cultural policies has absolutely nothing to do with the core issue; she just brought politics in at the lowest possible level and showed extreme favoritism... She actually thanked (!) one forum member who kept pushing political talking points way more than I did, only to turn around and lash out at me, cutting me off before I could even get a word in. Her poor moderation has caused more mess than she’s even capable of cleaning up...

It would be nice if she offered an apology, really, because the way she kept attacking me was just unprecedented and plain rude—twisting my words and trying to disqualify me in front of the rest of the community for no reason at all. I specifically asked her not to delete anything or continue maliciously misinterpreting what I write, since that feels more like blatant trolling than actual good moderation, but she just wouldn't listen. I can't even give you the specific post number because she already wiped it...

Charles Murphy6 said:My little girl just turned eight, and she’s at that stage where she insists on sitting on the toilet while I’m in the shower, just rambling away about absolutely everything under the sun.
Honestly, it’s never bothered me; I only really shoo her out when I actually need some privacy for a bathroom break. 🤣
Because of this, she’s seen me dealing with my period and has noticed I’m breastfeeding. 😁.
We’ve actually been talking about menstruation and all that stuff since well before she hit this age.
Just the other day, she started getting really curious, peppering me with questions about anatomy and how babies are actually made.
She even asked if I could draw some diagrams for her.
So, I grabbed a pencil and got to work, sketching out female anatomy and the whole process of conception—she was genuinely fascinated by it all.
At one point, she even asked why I take those birth control pills.
And look, I just gave her a straight answer.
I’m honestly relieved she feels comfortable enough to ask; growing up in America back in my day, these things were strictly taboo, and I couldn't have asked my own mother a single question about it.
Our kids are lucky because most parents today aren't as stuck in those old-fashioned, restrictive ways.
Even though she's only eight, she's incredibly mature, and she's already starting to see some early signs of puberty, like fine hair growth.
She definitely inherited my genetic predisposition for hitting puberty early.
Sometimes I catch a faint scent of sweat from her armpits—not right when she's standing next to me, but more noticeable on her shirt later on. It’s nothing alarming, but it makes me wonder; I don't think it's time for deodorant yet. When did you all start using it, and is there anything truly gentle out there? In my opinion, most of the stuff on the shelves today is just way too aggressive.
For now, we’re sticking to plain soap and water, but I’m trying to plan ahead.

My daughter is ten and she’s already hitting that stage where she’s sweating quite a bit, and yeah, the scent is definitely getting stronger now that she's heading toward puberty. I ended up picking up a Johnson & Johnson roll-on for her, and it seems pretty gentle, you know? It has a very light scent and actually does the job without being overwhelming.

Such an impressive movie, and man, Pacino was absolutely incredible... he completely transformed himself for this role, tapping into that signature Pacino energy without it feeling like just another one of his over-the-top performances, but instead, you really feel like you're watching Kevorkian. Goodman was solid too, kept things interesting...
This is honestly just straight-up colonialist, bootlicking logic right here... and since when did the "average American" become the gold standard for all of humanity? Now we’re all supposed to be busting our tails just to put on some kind of show for them, all so Mexicans can feel a little better about themselves or whatever... it's just pathetic, really.

Well, just like with anything else in the arts, it’s never really about the "what," it’s all about the "how"... and honestly, the director and those two leads totally sucked me in. They managed to pull me right into this messy, heavy story about longing, craving intimacy, running away from it, and then pushing past every boundary in sight. It was actually pretty tense watching him try to build some kind of unconventional connection, wondering if she was even going to go for it... her husband was actually kind of heartbreaking to watch too, you could just feel the weight of the drama there, and I found myself trying to wrap my head around the whole female perspective and stuff... anyway, it was just a really well-told story.

It actually reminded me even more of a similar flick I saw on TV a few years back: a scandalous affair (which I think they called an affair of passion over here), has anyone ever seen that? It's such a darkly funny, high-tension movie about a couple who meet up at a hotel strictly for kinky sex—though we never actually see what they're doing—and somehow these feelings start bubbling up between them while they talk directly to the camera *** (I won't go any further because I don't want to spoil it)

And as for the fact that the sex scenes are so explicit, I actually think there's a purpose to it. Since most movies usually play it safe by being vague or non-explicit—you know, where nothing really happens and everything is just heavily romanticized unless it's a thriller—taking that step away from the norm helps the audience realize immediately that this isn't your typical Hollywood romance. It makes it clear that this isn't about "making love," it's just pure, raw sex. It's a really effective way to use cinematic tools to get the point across.

Even after ten years, I can still see it all so clearly... the raw emotion, the characters, those specific episodes, the little lessons it left behind... it’s just stayed with me. I guess that means it actually meant something.

Refugees used to carry around these little yellow cards—you know, the folded ones with four sides—to prove they were eligible for things like humanitarian aid, free city transit, student subsidies, and all that... but back before that, like during the influx in the early '90s, people arriving in the States would first get issued a single-sided white card just to verify their residency status.
Ordering from the UK in Miscellaneous ·
The seller is the one who sets the shipping rates, so you should probably check the fine print on whatever site you're planning to use before you pull the trigger.
Just speaking generally here, since I've done this quite a bit when ordering perfumes—shipping can be as low as $3 if someone just slips a few small vials into a padded envelope, but once you start ordering from a major online retailer, you're looking at closer to $6, or honestly even more depending on how heavy the package is...
