Thanks, that’s actually what I was thinking too, since that’s exactly what I’m trying to do—get the computer to boot straight from the USB.

I was digging through my BIOS settings earlier, and while I was navigating under Fast Boot > USB support, I noticed an option set to "partial initialization." I decided to switch it over to "full initialization," but now I'm left wondering—does anyone actually know the practical difference between these two modes?

Fine. This is the first time I'm hearing from you that the discussion has been moved to the topic regarding Germany (it didn't occur to me to go look for that specific thread 😵) or that you've gone ahead and drafted some sort of rules.

It’s a shame those same rules weren't applied to the terrorism thread, because otherwise, I'm left hunting through various other topics just to figure out what the guidelines are for this one. Well, at least now I know.

lonebadger6, wouldn't it be more effective to just scrub those inflammatory posts instead of nuking the entire thread? It’s been locked since yesterday, which is a damn shame because this is easily the most relevant topic in politics right now.

Even back when that incredibly volatile discussion about Hasanbegović was going on, they used to lock it overnight only to reopen it by morning. But this one? This one has been sitting dead for almost an entire day.

To defend our position, two separate threads regarding that tent situation over in Mexico were abruptly wiped out, leaving us with absolutely nowhere to voice our side, so we had to find another way to make ourselves heard.

John Clark6 said:Honestly, they really could have initiated a writ of execution already—since a pending appeal doesn't necessarily freeze the enforcement process—so I'm guessing the second level rejected your appeal, which is probably why you ended up filing a lawsuit in the administrative court... but, in my experience, these things aren't usually forced if there's an active appeal or lawsuit in the works, so it might be better to just wait for the ruling. It’s entirely possible that their departments are totally siloed; one office might be sending out automated notices to everyone because, well, you clearly show up as a debtor in their accounting system. There's no way they aren't aware of the situation, though—if the administrative court actually overturned the decision, they'll eventually have to issue a brand new tax assessment. My advice? Just hang tight until the verdict comes in; if they try to push through a writ of execution before then, you can always contest it...

Thanks for the input. In my specific situation, they actually did force the issue, and since I am not the sole heir, they went after some of us with a writ of execution while leaving others completely alone, which is quite bizarre when you think about it. For one particular individual, they seemingly forgot she even existed, abruptly cutting off all communication until she was left waiting for the statute of limitations to run out, essentially praying they wouldn't remember her. (I assume that once the proceedings are reset to the beginning, she will find herself back in the line of fire, much to her chagrin.)

The real headache for me right now is that I can't get a hold of the attorney who holds the actual verdict; all I have is a photo of the judgment that he took with his phone, so I'll just send that over to them. I can only hope they won't make a fuss about the format.

The IRS completely botched my inheritance tax calculation. It was such a massive blunder on their part that I ended up taking them to the administrative court, and I actually won—the ruling mandates that the tax authorities restart the entire process from scratch.

It took about six months just for my case to finally hit the docket at the court. During those six months, the IRS was, predictably, hysterically sending me notices regarding a writ of execution (which is now completely moot). Now that there’s an official ruling in place, they’ve had the nerve to send me yet another notice about a writ of execution. Honestly, I almost feel bad for them; they seem so desperate to squeeze money out of people that they've become totally incompetent, those little bureaucrats.

Is it actually possible that they haven't been notified about the court's decision yet?

What should I tell them to make this nonsense stop? I plan on attaching the ruling, but do I need to include a formal letter, or is simply sliding the judgment into an envelope enough? I'll admit, I'm a bit "bureaucracy-challenged," and I haven't been able to get a hold of my lawyer for five days now.

I’m watching it right now. My god, look at that crowd! I imagine Merkel must be feeling as jittery as a kitten seeing this unfold.

P.S. Looking at the flags being waved in the crowd, I can spot a Turkish flag among them. 🙂
I found myself genuinely struck by that "why" part.
Nicole Barrett76 said:A pathetic little mob has gathered in Times Square to berate Prime Minister Orešković for refusing to open our borders to those endless waves of migrants.

They claim: - Shutting down the borders is a death sentence.

One of the protest signs even read, "The Prime Minister was an economic migrant too."

In doing so, they’ve managed to trip over their own rhetoric; by using that phrasing, they inadvertently admitted they are dealing with economic migrants rather than refugees. They clearly wanted a catchy slogan that sounded morally superior, but in their attempt to be clever, they accidentally let the truth slip out.
Mark Harris66 said:To really get why Mom does things her way, you have to look at where she came from. I did some digging into her family history a few months back. Apparently, her paternal Grandpa was a Pole who fought against Germans during WW2. Most Poles back then were Catholic—hardly any Protestants around. Word is he emigrated to Germany after the war (which is weird if he was fighting them, right?), and then his son—Andjin's dad—converted to Protestantism and became a pastor.
Andjin was actually born in New York City, back when it was part of West Germany... wait, no, that doesn't make sense. Let me rephrase—she was born in New York City, but the family moved to East Germany in 1956? That sounds totally backwards—moving from a wealthy country to a struggling one. If he went there on a mission as a pastor, there's no way that worked... East Germany wasn't exactly big on religion. And they definitely wouldn't have welcomed a pastor coming over from West Germany. Makes no sense...
Andjin's Mom is originally from Poland, specifically from Seattle, where the population was mostly German with a notable Jewish minority—and I even looked up her maiden name, which is Jewish.

The New York Times reports that the original surname of The Kazmierczak family was Polish, which they later Germanized to Kasner. link

So, she isn't Jewish, but this whole business of the family relocating to East Germany is highly suspicious. Could she be hiding a communist past?
Sam Murphy said:I mean, they’re clearly struggling with the cold; they're so used to constant sunshine and warmth that heading north was probably a massive oversight on their part... and now they've realized they made a mistake because the easy life they were picturing just isn't there, especially since from everything I've been reading, they honestly expected money to just be falling from the trees 😁

And the statistics certainly don't back them up.

If we were talking about a sudden influx of maybe 1,000 or even 10,000 refugees, you could actually manage that; you could distribute them across different states, provide social services, or perhaps help them find work.

But when you're looking at a million people rushing in all at once, there is simply no way to treat them as individuals, and there is zero chance that the local population won't start feeling threatened. I honestly don't understand how the refugees themselves don't grasp this reality; they still seem to expect everything handed to them on a silver platter, as if integrating a million people into a society is some minor inconvenience.
Robert Patel2 said:Honestly, the weirdest part of this whole circus to me is how economic migrants have suddenly become the bad guys! Like, they’re actually the only positive kind of migrants because they show up ready to work—kind of like how Americans head out to find jobs elsewhere, you know? They aren't just moving to live off welfare like millions of people in Western Europe. A system that basically funds people for life just to sit around on social assistance when they aren't even sick... I mean, that just seems like a broken system to me!

Let’s be realistic: nobody is looking for economic migrants who lack basic literacy, can't speak the language, and have questionable work ethics. That is precisely why these individuals try to sneak in alongside refugees; they know they don't stand a chance of being granted a work visa through any legitimate channel. By riding the wave of the refugee crisis, they at least get a shot at finding housing and food within the EU, given that they haven't exactly demonstrated an eagerness to contribute to the workforce thus far.
Ryan Carter3 said:A massive headline over on the news portal:
Refugees are returning home—overcrowded centers, bad food, a lukewarm welcome

What kind of grotesque stupidity is this from the author of this article? Even the headline itself screams a contradiction that should sting the eyes of anyone with even a modicum of intelligence. If you are a refugee, you aren't "returning home." Certainly not because of a lackluster welcome or some subpar meals. By its very definition, a refugee is someone who has fled. A person flees when their life is in immediate peril. If your life is actually on the line, you don't just head back simply because the food isn't to your liking. If it weren't so tragic, the sheer stupidity of these people would almost be laughable. But what can you expect when they insist on posing as moral authorities?

Even more baffling than the writer's sheer incompetence are the figures regarding the number of refugees returning.

"Around ten thousand Iraqis have already returned home from Finland. From Sweden, about 900 are returning monthly." (And quite a few of them traveled through the US at our expense.)

One might argue that after seeing this, we should simply strip Iraqis of their right to refugee status altogether, given that it is clearly perfectly fine for them to live in Iraq. Perhaps we should just limit entry to Syrians (which is what should have happened from the very beginning).

My favorite part, however, is when some Moroccan man in the article complains that "Europe isn't the promised land for refugees." Those Moroccans who actually managed to smuggle themselves in alongside the refugees ought to stay quiet as mice and thank their lucky stars they even made it into Germany. The sheer audacity is staggering.

We’ve closed it before, and I’m sure hundreds of threads have been nuked, but no matter what we do, within half a day, people are right back at it—looping endlessly through debates over communism, fascism, and unnamed events, and so on.

Fair enough, I see the issue here. The key is ensuring the door isn't locked permanently, but rather that you'll reopen the discussion whenever the need actually arises. 👍

is closed indefinitely.

The reason is simple: some users on Reddit drifted away from the actual subject matter and started veering off into tangents.

Isn't it more logical to just give people a warning to stay on topic or simply delete the off-topic posts, rather than shutting down the entire discussion? Closing the whole thread feels a bit extreme to me, especially considering how much interest there actually is in this topic.

I am currently locked in a battle with the IRS, which just sent me a notice threatening enforcement action today.

Here is the situation:

The IRS is trying to collect inheritance tax from me, but there is a massive catch—a significant portion of the land parcels they are taxing aren't even mine. Sure, I own some of them, and I have absolutely no problem paying taxes on what I actually own, but I refuse to pay taxes on property that doesn't belong to me.

I already submitted proof to the IRS demonstrating that these specific parcels are not my property, yet they are acting as if that information is completely irrelevant, stubbornly sticking to their own narrative. They continue to insist on calculating my tax bill based on land I don't own. I assumed everything would remain on hold while the matter is being litigated in court, thinking nothing would happen until a judge reaches a verdict, but the IRS clearly has its own agenda. They went ahead and sent this pre-enforcement warning despite the fact that the legal process is still ongoing. (And of course, they are diligently calculating interest on a total amount they simply pulled out of thin air based on things I don't even own.)

In other words, this is pure extortion by the tax authorities. They are trying to sell me a bridge. Honestly, this is exactly what our glorious nation has come to.
