Ukraine discussion thread; moderation is the same as the PDF world in Feedback & Suggestions ·
granitefalcon26 said:Exactly👍 While the moderator keeps insisting we’re in the minority, the reality is that 99% of the political forums out there completely dodge the actual issue. This whole thread has turned into nothing but pure trolling, where people just sing praises to Putin and his glorious Russia—all while the moderation team gives them a thumbs up and actively participates. It’s funny how you’re allowed to insult the legally elected President of Ukraine under the guise of "freedom of speech," but heaven forbid anyone mentions Putin or his policies.
Breaking the rules seems to be perfectly fine here, since Konev is still being allowed to drop links to articles written in a language none of us Americans can even understand. Meanwhile, they’re making up new rules on the fly to ban any comparison between the war in Ukraine and the American Civil War. As usual, the moderator is dodging the debate, so I’m calling on the administration to weigh in.
Is this forum's policy basically just unconditional support for Putin and his fascist agenda? Is censorship being introduced here by inventing new rules to stop people from comparing the war in Ukraine to the American Civil War?

I find myself wondering if you actually read your own posts. You complain about insults directed at the Ukrainian President, yet in the very next breath, you refer to the Russian President as a "fuhrer" and a fascist...
Regarding those comparisons between the "war" in Ukraine and the American Civil War, that subject has already been extensively debated. In my view, those two events simply cannot be compared for far too many reasons, and anyone attempting to draw those parallels is likely just trolling.
Clones in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I have a question for the forum administration: is there any way at all to prevent the creation of clone accounts? I mean, the current situation is just not normal. On the thread regarding Ukraine, new clones seem to pop up every single day—some even openly admit they are clones

What kind of message does this send to all the honest forum members who actually follow the rules? When I was banned, I served my sentence, learned my lesson, and made sure to be a bit more careful about the forum guidelines the second time around.

I would suggest that those who constantly break the rules by signing up over and over again—despite being under a ban—should simply have their IP addresses blocked (or whatever the technical term is).

A situation like this just doesn't make sense.

I find myself wondering why everyone seems so worked up—especially since most of you aren't even participating in this thread unless you're using burner accounts, I suppose. 🤷
And if you’re going to demand sanctions against "fascists," then—if we're being consistent—why aren't you demanding them against "Nazis" too?

perhaps for those labeled as "brainwashed."

or for the "fanatics." http://www.reddit.com/showpost.php?p=51366036&postcount=4918

and then there are the slurs used against anyone who isn't strictly pro-Ukraine—not to mention the comments about Mexicans.
So, my friends, if you are going to be this zealous about reporting one side, I think it would be much more honorable to report the other side as well. It might actually come across as fair, in my opinion.

In a series of posts, he keeps posting links to Russian tests written in Cyrillic.

In these, Ukrainian soldiers and the legitimate Ukrainian government are being labeled as fascists. I wonder—where is Charles Fox10 now??

Well, the text in those links uses Cyrillic because that is what is used in Russia, and most of them are Russian links. I suppose there is nothing controversial about that?🤷
On what grounds was this post deleted? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Joshua Alvarez79 said:What exactly was untrue about the previous post? I suppose one might ask—is the actual criterion for not deleting a post that every single claim within it must align perfectly with the facts? Of course, that isn't the rule, but in this specific instance, even that standard seems to be met. If anyone feels otherwise, they have the opportunity to dispute any claims they believe are inaccurate—after all, that is precisely what this forum is for.

If factual accuracy—or the lack thereof—isn't actually the metric used for deleting a post, then I find myself wondering: what specific reasoning was applied when deciding to delete my post?

If there isn't a rational justification for removing my post, I would kindly request that I be allowed to republish it in the referendum thread without any penalties—and ideally, quite promptly.

Perhaps the same logic used to ensure this post (a forum member's signature) wasn't deleted or flagged...

Arthur Flores2 said:So, which sect do you belong to?

In any case—and I mean this quite sincerely—you don't actually have any connection to the Church of Jesus Christ. From our perspective, that refers specifically to the Catholic Church; all other sects are viewed as heretics. Therefore, I suppose I don't see how you could possibly group yourself and me in the same category...

Well, I truly am not in the same boat as people like you.

rowdyotter25 said:If you penalize someone for repeating an argument simply because it’s being repeated—while simultaneously allowing other arguments to loop indefinitely (for instance, claims that homosexuality is unnatural)—then the moderation process itself is destroying the balance of the debate.

This feels like yet another sneaky attempt to silence anyone who holds a different opinion.
On one hand, it seems perfectly acceptable to label others as homophobes—which implies a psychological disorder—or to call them narrow-minded, backward, or worse... yet, on the other hand, the moderators seem to flinch if anything doesn't align perfectly with their specific views.
You, rowdyotter25, have pointed out numerous times how you moved to Washington, D.C. just to escape primitive Americans; you've called us and our parents narrow-minded, often speaking down to us from a position of perceived superiority.

Please, leave Brenda Cook4 alone. She, along with Tyler Cruz32 and Nicole James, has moderated this thread quite fairly, I believe.

But Paul Kern12, you aren't even Catholic—you're more like a Jehovah's Witness who probably views the Catholic Church as some kind of satanic nest, which seems to be how you view all of us Catholics. I mean, listen to you trying to distance yourself, when in reality, you've practically built a barbed-wire fence between yourself and the rest of us...

Let's just drop the Nietzsche talk for a second—could you at least give me back that last joke? It wasn't actually *that* dark, and maybe if we could focus on that, we might finally wrap up this argument using some sort of summary judgment.

.

You're a bit off base with that "Jehovah's Witness" label, and I certainly don't believe Catholics belong to some "satanic nest."
I am not distancing myself from Catholics with any kind of wire; rather, I am distancing myself from you, specifically, for as long as you continue to post such nonsensical garbage. Honestly, if I were a moderator, I suppose I would have banned you for a significant amount of time because of these "jokes."

Arthur Flores2, your "jokes" aren't even funny—if they could even be called jokes. I might say they're actually quite sick; as a believer, I find myself having to distance myself sharply from such "humor," and I have to tell you—perhaps you’re simply bringing shame upon yourself and the faith you claim to stand for.

Alex Ramos91 said:So, basically, the wolf ate the donkey? 🤷

Is this kind of—well, indirect—doxing of someone's private info, especially when it was obtained through the Democratic Party, actually allowed here? I suppose a post might get deleted if another member decides to protest it.

I'm just asking, purely so I know what to expect—and so I don't end up getting penalized myself. 🙄

On another note, it seems Mickey Mouse has apparently cloned himself and claimed that he won't be posting as MM anymore. Yet, for some reason, his clone was banned, and he’s still carrying on as MM anyway.

You can try to ignore all that. When I actually asked that specific clone about the situation, he just brushed me off and told me to ask Uncle Strilet (since, you know, he enjoys his protection).

Rebecca Harris said:So now it’s fine that links point directly to posts.

Did you try reporting them using the little icon first, or did you come straight to the Religion sub-forum?

I did post it on the Religion sub-forum—under the main Religion section—but the mods haven't really responded, even though I noticed they were online—at least two of them, if not all of them, were active.
In the past, I (and several others, too) have used the report button, but usually, there's just no response—though, occasionally, a post might get deleted.
Essentially, it was mostly the inactivity of the moderators that led me to this point. This particular user is doing whatever they want, and the real issue, I suppose, is that these kinds of things are being permitted.

On the Religion subreddit, Kitty is constantly harassing and insulting people—and frankly, the moderators in charge of that sub seem to be letting it happen, which is quite disappointing.
It seems fairly obvious that this individual might be struggling personally, but I suppose that doesn't give him the right to take his frustrations out on everyone else.
In just a very short amount of time, he has managed to clash with several different users; in fact, just during this afternoon alone, he somehow managed to churn out about ten posts filled with insults.
I am posting this here with the hope—perhaps a naive one—that some actual action will be taken, because previous reports have been met with either indifference or no response at all.

Here are a few of today's posts, just so you can see exactly what I'm talking about:
steelskipper5 said:Those two sentences you wrote are in direct contradiction. ☕

So what...
It seems contradictory to me too—the way you two support one another so intensely—and how you're essentially acting as his defense attorney.
When someone writes that they see young neo-fascists emerging within the ranks of a certain church (which, I suppose, is currently fractured into a thousand different sects) who might eventually reunite once things settle down...

The text itself is as clear as it can possibly be, though you are free to interpret it however you wish—you certainly have that right.
steelskipper5 said:At worst, I guess you could conclude he's speaking in generalities, but there isn't some universal quantifier in his post. So, he isn't actually claiming what you're trying to pin on him. ☕

😕 Your perspective... Well, I am not imputing anything to him; I am simply reading what was actually written.
Admittedly, I didn't copy the entire post, but—at least to my mind—it seems quite clear what the poet intended to convey.
steelskipper5 said:Look, personally, I don't see anything wrong with that post—aside from maybe debating the specific list he made. But in principle? Nothing's incorrect. Calling them neo-fascists is just hyperbole for extremists, and let's face it, you can find extremist sects everywhere. Actually, almost any sect is more extreme than its parent organization in one way or another, by definition.

You might want to read that a bit more closely. He is claiming that all Christians—followers of a single church—are neo-fascists. Now, you certainly have every right to your own worldview, and I suppose that isn't really up for debate. However, it seems quite unfair to assert that those who hold different beliefs than yours are, in fact, neo-fascists.
Forgive my intrusion here. I notice there seems to be quite a bit of commotion surrounding rowdyhawk10—it almost appears as though he is some sort of protected figure within the religion subforum. Is it possible—and I say this without seeking any disciplinary action—to characterize a belief system that disagrees with our "protected" individual as fascist??? For instance, take today:
rowdyhawk10 said:@Isaura
but that is why now, in all Western nations, we see young neo-fascists, proudly carrying their "crosses of truth"... We see them appearing as followers of a single church, yet this time they are fractured into thousands of different sects... Pentecostals, Jehovah's Witnesses, Adventists, Neocatechumenalists... all of them, whenever they find themselves in a bind...

So, according to rowdyhawk10, all young Christians are neo-fascists...
I have noticed that he tends to use such labels for anyone who holds a differing opinion.
In my view, this style of writing is simply not appropriate—nor does it seem fitting for someone who claims to be a believer.
Student-teacher dynamics vs. parent-teacher dynamics in Students & Teens ·
Nicholas King said:I suppose the teacher is probably right, much as it pains me to admit it.

Don't you see how the divergence between your parenting style and everyone else's starts to manifest in the gap between your child and the rest of the group? It wouldn't be an unreasonable leap to assume that, over time, your child might—slowly but surely—become a bit of an outsider to their peers.

Looking at the long game here, how do you envision your child's future within a social circle that—if I am interpreting your situation correctly—is fundamentally different from your own values?

We moved out to a rural area from Washington, D.C., and since we aren't Catholic, our child doesn't attend religious studies classes. Because of all those factors, we have always felt somewhat like outsiders, even though the child was born right here.
Long-term, we see the only real solution as moving back to a major city, but for the moment, we just can't make that happen due to our current finances.
That said, I don't believe our son is being bullied by the local children; he is actually quite accepted by them (and these people like us too—we socialize despite our differing mindsets).
It is my impression that we clashed with this particular teacher specifically because we didn't
quite agree with his methods, and we actually dared to speak up.
