Lady Bird (2017) in Movies ·
I honestly think Greta Gerwig is way better in front of the camera than she is behind it. Like, maybe if her Noah Baumbach was calling the shots, he could have actually turned this into something decent—but she just isn't quite there as a director yet. To be totally real with you, I can barely remember anything about the Film itself; it was just super forgettable and honestly felt like it was hitting way too many clichés.

Honestly, it was just a totally mid movie. Around the 30-minute mark, there’s this moment where Hector hints that maybe he ate something wrong before he passed away—and I kid you not, I spent the rest of the film spoiling the entire plot to the person sitting next to me. Like, "Yeah, he's actually his real dad, he's the one who killed him, blah blah blah." It felt like nothing new from Pixar this year, and I was basically dying of boredom from that point on.
The visuals? Calling them "beautiful" feels like an overstatement at this point—it's more like they just use pretty colors to manipulate your emotions and call it a day.

Nah, I disagree—the first one is basically just a remake of Yojimbo.

People always say a perfect movie doesn't exi... Oh, wait.
Bright (2017) in Movies ·
Spoiler Alert!

It feels like Ayer is just recycling himself here—that whole trope where the cop saves someone early on, only for it to come back and haunt him when the gangsters try to take him out. Seriously, it’s the exact same vibe we saw in Training Day. It’s like, same pattern, different movie!
The Best of the Best in Movies ·
I'm honestly so bummed this isn't a thread dedicated to the movie Good, Bad, and Ugly—and I was really hoping for some shirtless shots of Eric Roberts!
Honestly, I thought this was a really solid movie—definitely one of the heavy hitters from this year. It’s such a relief because we've been drowning in a sea of mediocre books and rushed adaptations lately, but this stands out as one of the better ones.
Carla was absolutely incredible, and the rest of the cast held their own too.

It’s the meta humor, the actors, the characters, the script—I don't know, do I really have to list everything out for you? They're just super fun, honestly, and the chemistry between the cast is top-tier...

This is so ridiculous it's freaking hilarious:

That part where they're tripping out on drugs...
I watched those movies back in the day and I can still picture so many of the scenes in my head...

I have no clue why they always take these "serious" shows and try to turn them into movies that sit right on that awkward line between being a parody and just being... well, not funny. The original series was just some chill, B-movie action stuff—perfect for when you want to turn your brain off and just relax... but this? This was just plain boring. It reminds me of those other disasters, like Starsky and Hutch or 21 Jump Street.

Honestly, 21 and 22 Jump Street are actually hilarious and just solid movies
Alexander Jones5 said:Am I really the only one who thinks all those Pirate movies set in the Caribbean got unfairly trashed by critics? Okay, look—the third one is total garbage, I'll give you that.

Yep, you're the only one. Only the first one actually holds up—the rest is just straight-up trash.

Superman Returns vs Man of Steel in Movies ·
Man of Steel actually has a pretty solid first half, but once Lois Lane wanders into that alien spacecraft, the movie basically turns into Sucker Punch—meaning it becomes unwatchably boring trash.

Superman Returns isn't exactly a great movie because it’s a total mess trying to do way too much at once and ends up being nothing special, but honestly, it's still more watchable than Man of Steel.

I'd say Brandon Routh is a better Superman than Henry Cavill, even if he isn't as conventionally hot. Then again, nobody really is, so...

Honestly, these modern parodies and comedies? They’re basically the gold standard for the genre.

Man, Broderick is absolutely killing it in Glory. I actually watched that one right after his run of teen flicks and The Cable Guy—which is such an underrated gem, even if he almost steals the whole show—plus those total disasters like Godzilla and Inspector Gadget. It really caught me off guard how much he carries that movie; he’s basically the heart and soul of the whole thing, even with that massive supporting cast and Denzel Washington's Oscar win pulling focus. Then I caught Election and realized there’s way more to this guy than just being some random dude, especially after seeing him in You Can Count on Me.

Joshua Kern said:Mr. Dourif actually has his own dedicated thread on this forum, which I believe I started myself. He really is a phenomenal actor, and isn't it interesting that his daughter, Fiona Douriff, is an actress as well? She appeared in the film Curse of Chucky and also had a part in the series Gentlemen from the Holistic Agency.

Wait, she's Bart!? 😲 I had absolutely no clue she was his daughter—she is seriously phenomenal in that role.

What can I even say about Bruce Willis? Aside from those legendary action flicks, he’s actually pulled off some really solid dramatic performances—think Pulp Fiction, Unbreakable, The Sixth Sense, Moonrise Kingdom... but honestly, if you ask me, he’s at his absolute best in 12 Monkeys. No contest. That scene in the car where he hears the music for the first time and gets that look in his eyes? Just breathtaking. Terry Gilliam really squeezed the absolute best out of him.

It’s such a bummer that lately he seems to be in like twelve movies a year, and most of them are just straight-to-video B-movies. His last truly great one was definitely Looper.

Hold up, hold up a second... Red Sun... featuring Alain Delon, Charles Bronson, AND Toshiro Mifune all in one movie!? Okay, I need to go hunt that down immediately.

I honestly think most people today probably recognize Douriff best from his role in LOTR. Though, if you’re a fan of one of the greatest shows ever, Deadwood, you definitely know him from there too. He also had a pretty standout part in Mississippi Burning.

I’ve always had this random itch to see him and Crispin Glover team up for some weird, trippy movie. Edit: okay, I just did a quick Google search to see if my brain was playing tricks on me—and yep, that movie actually exists! It's called The Wizard of Gore.
