Birds of Prey (2020) in Movies ·

I had a feeling this was going to be a total disaster 🥱

It's way worse than those other two movies—seriously, if you weren't even feeling Wonder Woman, you should probably just skip this one entirely.

Look, this movie is a tiny bit better than Suicide Squad, but let’s not get carried away—that’s not exactly a glowing review. It’s super messy, full of these random, dumb scenes that don't need to be there, and the tone is just... weird? It tries this non-chronological thing with a narrator during the first half, and honestly, the action everyone keeps raving about isn't even that great. I mean, it’s decent enough, but logically, it makes zero sense almost every single time. Instead of just shooting the main characters, they decide to get into fistfights with them—which drove me absolutely insane, though I guess you can try to ignore it. Still, that kind of stuff really bugs me in movies.

And don't even get me started on that final act people love so much; it was a total disaster for me. I actually liked the movie better when it was wandering through all those different subplots and characters—at least then I was wondering where the story was headed. But the end? Just boring, mindless action mixed with those "girl power" moments that honestly make me want to gag.

The absolute highlight—and I mean the *only* convincing part of the whole thing—is Ewan McGregor and his henchman. They are insanely funny, and every single scene they're in is pure gold. If only the movie had just focused on them instead of these silly women I couldn't care less about.

It feels like Huntress could have actually been something special. She had potential because she's so socially awkward and just doesn't know how to act, but she's barely in the movie, so she doesn't really impact anything.
Margot Robbie, I don't know... I think I'm just kind of over her at this point.

Don't bother sticking around for the post-credits "scene."

Bottom line: the movie is mediocre at best. It's fun in spots, but mostly just meh.
Little Women (2019) in Movies ·
I wasn't really feeling Lady Bird—honestly, I just adore Greta in all her Baumbach movies. Like, I swear she’s always playing some version of me, which is kind of wild, but this specific film felt like just another one in a long line of adaptations. It feels like the 15th time someone has tried to turn this book into a movie, and it doesn't really bring anything fresh to the table besides an incredible cast.
The non-linear storytelling was also pretty much a mess for me.
Noah Roberts46 said:You haven't even seen 1917, so how on earth can you comment on this?

The QT regarding the screenplay is laughable; this is easily his worst work yet. Honestly, almost every other nominated film has a better script than this.

For real, though—those Golden Globe awards are always such a joke. Nobody actually takes them seriously anyway.

Why don't you explain it to us?

Look, you can't even use Wikipedia as a source for a college term paper—so that whole sentence you just wrote is honestly pretty hilarious haha.
I am Mother (Netflix) (2019) in Movies ·
bluecanyon643 said:Yeah, so the kid finally has her little "epiphany" at the end and steps into the role of Mother. Or maybe the consciousness from the robot-mother just jumps over to the girl. It’s pretty stupid and honestly way too saccharine. Same thing with that whole "outcast" character introduction where they try to convince you she isn't even one. The story starts moving in a decent direction, but then it just trips over itself with a few cheap twists and completely ruins the momentum. Kind of a waste, I guess.

What? No way.
Oh man...
Yikes...
I don't even know where to start when someone completely misses the point of a movie like this.

The movie is actually surprisingly good—the production design is top-tier and that girl is incredible 👍 Some parts were predictable, sure, but whatever.
Beautiful Boy (2018) in Movies ·
It’s honestly pretty mid—you’re probably only sitting through it for Timothée Chalamet. I kept mixing this one up with Boy Erased for the longest time, though if I'm being real, Boy Erased is actually a bit better even if they aren't exactly the same thing. People say this movie is similar to Ben is back...
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) in Movies ·
Such an incredible movie—honestly, it was always dubbed into English at my local AMC Theatres so I ended up skipping it, but man, what a shame it wasn't on the big screen.
Creed II (2018) in Movies ·
Honestly, it was just kind of boring and totally predictable—way too much forced drama and conflict for my taste. I was actually rooting for the Drago family the whole time! They seriously need a spinoff featuring someone like Ivan Drago.
Overlord (2018) in Movies ·
Honestly, such a snooze fest—I was really expecting way more from this one. It kicks off strong, but then they try to flesh out the characters and just... fail? I didn't end up caring about anyone. Even Euron Greyjoy at the end felt so over-the-top as a villain that he actually became the most interesting part of the whole thing.
There are a few solid scenes toward the end, super bloody and shot really well, but a lot of it is just so predictable. It just didn't grab me.
It’s okay, worth a watch if you have nothing else to do, a decent effort, but better luck next time.
I honestly feel like this director is much better than the script he was handed.
Crazy Rich Asians in Movies ·
I actually didn't mind it too much—yeah, okay, there are tons of clichés and everyone is super wealthy and privileged, but somehow it just worked for me. I guess a lot of it depends on your mood and what you’re expecting going in. It felt a bit like a Baz Luhrman movie, just without the killer soundtrack, and with more Asian characters.
Escape Plan 2: Hades in Movies ·
The first one is solid—Arnold Schwarzenegger is absolute gold in that one. This second one? Not so much.
Escape Plan 2: Hades in Movies ·
Honestly, don't even waste your time watching this garbage—it's definitely not worth a dedicated thread.
The Room (2003) in Movies ·
George Roberts41 said:Robocop is actually pretty solid too

Solid? Man, they’re freaking incredible. They're right up there with The Room, Rocky, and Troll 2. And obviously, you can't forget The Room. Just a tier below those, I'd say you've got Death Wish and Hard Ticket to Hawaii...
There are plenty more where those came from...
Rampage (2018) in Movies ·
Even with my expectations set pretty low, this movie was just straight-up boring. Honestly, maybe the last ten minutes were somewhat fun, but that’s about it. You can totally skip this one—I only went because I scored some free tickets, though looking back, I probably should've had a drink or two before sitting down.

They have this one funny gag that they repeat three different times—once at the start and then again at the end. It’s such a cheap, lazy joke, but whatever. Seriously though, George the Monkey has way more charisma than the entire cast put together.
Man Who Killed Don Quixote (2018) in Movies ·
The trailer is honestly kind of a mess. But look, I still have faith in Terry Gilliam—I really do. Especially after how much of a disaster Lost in la Mancha turned out to be.

Hands down one of my favorites👍
The Death of Stalin (2017) in Movies ·
ruggedjackal46 said:I honestly had high hopes for Armando Iannucci, so I walked away feeling pretty let down. The movie doesn't really lean into the sheer absurdity of the actual historical events, which I get—the reality was dark enough on its own. But if you aren't going full grotesque, what are you actually doing? It ends up being this semi-serious drama about how brutal the Stalinist regime was and the subsequent power struggle after he died. Is that really groundbreaking? Not even slightly. When I watched *in The Loop* or *The Thick of It*, that specific brand of cynicism, heartlessness, and petty ambition actually landed for me. Maybe it’s because those stories felt contemporary, whereas pointing out the cynicism within the Soviet Union feels like stating the obvious.

On top of that, the film introduces a massive cast and sets up several interesting plot threads that just... lead nowhere. They don't really serve the main narrative at all (take Stalin's daughter, for example). You can tell this was adapted from a graphic novel, which probably offered much more room for actual character development.

I also found it a bit jarring that the film didn't even try to be self-aware about the fact that everyone is speaking English and is played by mostly American or British actors. To me, it just felt artificial. There was such an opportunity to play with that sense of artifice; for instance, having Steve Buscemi play Khrushchev or Michael Palin as Molotov should have been comedic gold, but instead, it just feels unearned and fake.

Look, it’s not freaking Deadpool where they can just break the fourth wall and go, "Hey, lol, Americans are playing Russians." In so many movies, characters are Russian but they either speak English with an accent or don't bother with it at all—you don't need to draw attention to it.

Otherwise, though? It’s an awesome movie. Honestly better than 90% of the comedies that drop every year.
The Greatest Showman (2017) in Movies ·
silentsurfer2 said:It’s a decent enough watch, but it isn't exactly going to stick in my brain for years to come.
If we're talking musicals, Moulin Rouge is still the gold standard for me.
That said, The Greatest Showman blows that one forgotten hit, la la Land, out of the water.

Look, I get that the movie itself isn't a masterpiece, but man, that song deserved an Oscar, period.
And I gotta disagree on la la Land—that ending? I'll be thinking about it for the rest of my life. Seriously, those were probably the best 10 minutes ever put in a musical.
Phantom Thread (2017) in Movies ·
Nicole Thomas3 said:Hands down, *The Master* is Anderson’s absolute best. Seriously. And if you look back at those Oscar categories now, just remind yourself what a complete joke the Best Picture nominees actually were.

I mean, seriously, if you consider Boogie Nights, Hard Eight, and There Will Be Blood to be his true masterpieces, then all this stuff he’s been pumping out lately isn't even in the same league.
