"Listen, officer, I have every right to kill this man, and you can wait until then to react according to whatever protocol you claim to follow. Actually, scratch that—you don't have any authority over me. I have the right to kill him."

It’s the same logic applied to racists. People have the right to be whoever they want and say whatever they want. It's their choice. Of course, their actions are subject to consequences. Whether those consequences are warranted is something people can argue about.

Picture this: someone posts some racist garbage on a forum and gets banned—presumably because nobody actually has the right to spew that kind of hate. So, they hop over to a second site, get banned there too. They move to a third. Eventually, they find themselves with nowhere left to go. But suddenly, everyone starts acting like they have a "right" to be a racist? Follow that logic. It doesn't hold up.

People don't have the right to kill, rape, or steal. But they do have the right to say they’re going to do those things. As long as it's just words, you can't touch them. That's The law.

To be clear, people have the right to be racists. They can walk down the street being racist. But once those thoughts leave their mouths or turn into actual actions, that's a whole different ballgame. It's worth talking about because it's often subtle rather than blatant. I'm not claiming to be some genius or saying my take is the only truth, but I definitely have the right to my opinion, right?

One last thing: just because something hasn't been penalized doesn't mean an admin, supermod, or moderator supports whatever nonsense a user posted. The management team is here to guide the conversation, not cheerlead for bad behavior. Sure, we make mistakes—just like anyone else does at work—but let me be clear: none of us are backing, encouraging, or justifying that kind of stuff.

If it had been, this whole farce wouldn't have escalated. I truly hope you can take a long, hard look in the mirror and reflect on that. A real leader knows how to admit when they've messed up.

Look, more should have been done regarding that thread, but it wasn't. So what now? I'm not wasting my breath dwelling on what "should" have happened; I'm focused on what we do next.

I'm not going to go staring at myself in the mirror because I'm not some big-shot leader—I'm just an admin. There is a difference.

Nicholas King said:If I were to address you in this manner, what exactly would happen?

You don't need this.

Edit: Just to be precise regarding terminology—to "have a right" means to base one's actions (whether spoken or otherwise) upon some written or unwritten law, or perhaps an unwritten "social contract." People can certainly be racists, but they possess absolutely no right to be racists. Anything someone "has a right" to do cannot be subject to any kind of sanction—claiming a "right" to racism would imply that racism itself carries some form of legitimacy.

Edit to the edit: To prevent us from descending into a debate over who holds more authority here, it would be quite helpful if Vojky weighed in on the (non)existence of a "right to racism." In this particular matter, he undoubtedly possesses the greatest 😁.

Yeah, what would happen? Absolutely nothing.

We heard your suggestion loud and clear. This thread will probably get wiped anyway, so thanks for the heads-up.

Please, don't view this suggestion as some legalistic maneuvering; rather, look at it as a necessary bit of housekeeping. 😁

Hey there,

We got your office's letter and we'll definitely take the proposal into consideration.

I read through that whole ridiculous thread. Judolino made a huge mistake by letting himself get provoked and actually engaging with a troll in the first place. But not a single one of his posts was hate speech; he was just insulting other users. What constitutes hate speech here is actually the opening post. It’s a textbook example of calculated hate propaganda fueled by racism. I find it hard to believe anyone could spin a tale suggesting that guy just wanted an intellectual debate to learn something or hear a different perspective. Which begs the question: why hasn't this thread been deleted yet? Or better yet, WHY THE HELL IS IT STILL UP? Just wipe that garbage immediately; locking it isn't enough.
But what absolutely floored me was this statement from the admin: Believe it or not, people have the right to be racists. Also, you have the right to express your disagreement with those views.
Are you kidding me? Since when? What else do people have the right to be—thieves, murderers, rapists? There are all sorts of degenerates among the human race, but that doesn't mean everything can be categorized under "freedom of speech." You have to draw a line somewhere and prohibit statements that are dangerous to the environment—to the rest of society that recognizes the importance of mutual tolerance, which is what makes us a civilized society rather than pure anarchy.
I am well aware that this is private property and might not carry legal liability. However, it still functions as a form of public media, and if nothing else, it carries a moral and social responsibility for the content they choose to leave indexed for search engines. I highly doubt any reputable public media outlet would allow this kind of propaganda in its archives, if only to protect their future funding.

In my opinion, the moderators of this site made a much larger blunder than Judolino did, and I sincerely hope they rectify it soon.
To wrap things up, here is a song for the individual who started this thread, and for everyone else who can't seem to grasp where the problem lies.

Look, you've gotta realize people have the right to be whoever they want—even if that means being thieves or killers. But at the end of the day, their actions are still gonna trigger a massive social backlash.
It’s just like racists. People have the right to be whoever they want and say whatever they please. It's their choice. But at the end of the day, their actions trigger reactions, and whether those reactions are fair is definitely up for debate.

There is one massive failure regarding this forum's administration.

Hey Kurtz,

One of the big unwritten rules here is respecting privacy. That’s why most people use handles instead of their full legal names. We have a reporting system in place specifically so users can flag posts that don't fit the vibe of this forum. Now, truth be told, it’s not totally anonymous because reports go straight to the moderators handling that specific thread. However, they are strictly forbidden from leaking who filed the report—doing so would break our core principles. So, your request for the identity of whoever "sued" you isn't going to happen. Not happening at all.

Also, regarding your comment about someone coming here to lecture you without any shame. Why do you think anyone would come here just to lecture you? Honestly, if we're being real, that exact sentiment could apply to your entire posting history, which I’ve read in its entirety, by the way. It’s just not cool or respectful to talk to the other members like that.

The tricky part about running a forum is dealing with folks who dance right on the line between playful banter and outright insults, and they're usually pretty good at masking it. It takes a certain level of discipline to manage, and sometimes things slip through the cracks. Here are some examples:

mistymason1 said:Any kind of teasing crosses the line when the end goal isn't fun, but rather manipulation to boost the ego of the teaser. Those kinds of women (literally or figuratively) deserve a good old-fashioned slapping. Amen.
Flirting, though, is a completely different story.

Yeah, interestingly enough, any call for violence is strictly banned on this forum. Saying someone deserves to be "given a good slapping" counts as inciting or calling for violence. We don't allow that here.

mistymason1 said:Look, I’d never actually hit a woman. But I don't see that as a virtue; I see it as a flaw. Beating a woman to death or breaking her ribs is savagery. But a little slap isn't violence, even if saying that sounds blasphemous today..

I’m sticking to my guns—even though, again, I personally would never lay a hand on a woman, I still think the behavior described deserves at least one smack. Then again, the little slut would probably just get turned on afterward, so maybe it's better to skip it. Maybe you're right. Maybe a kick in the ass is the better move. 🤣

It's funny that you consider not hitting a woman a flaw. Fine, I guess some people feel that way, but using terms like "slut"... it feels like there's an underlying, whether conscious or not, attitude toward women starting to leak out through your words.

mistymason1 said:And who exactly is sticking up for them? Give me a break!

It’s just a bit deeper, no big deal. Female promiscuity is usually just a byproduct of mental instability, life's disappointments, or some subconscious urge to get back at a man. Real, empowered sexual freedom for women? Honestly, that’s just a myth. There’s always some deeper story running in the background if you just take a second to dig around.

Evolutionarily speaking, sex just isn't the same thing for men and women, and it never will be. Thinking that Western culture has actually changed the game since the sixties is honestly pretty naive.

It’s great when someone actually takes the time to dig into scientific papers—it's just a shame more people don't follow suit. But if you’re going to play that game, you should probably be fair about it. A lot of those studies and books actually point out that when you look at female promiscuity involving the traits you mentioned, the responsibility often falls on men and how they approach them. Since you clearly know how to pull facts from the data, it would be cool if you shared the whole picture. Right now, it feels like you're just cherry-picking info to troll.

mistymason1 said:It’s funny how those subconscious cravings slip out—that deep-seated need to be completely taken over. Especially when it comes from a woman who swears up and down she’s all about being independent and totally self-sufficient. Those little accidental slips from the subconscious are honestly gold. 😉

That’s an interesting take. I’m actually pretty fascinated by your conclusion regarding women and those subconscious needs. You start to see this pattern emerging more and more lately. It’s all about finding the pattern. Like when you finally notice how a specific driver always hits their blinker three seconds too late—once you see it, you can't unsee it. So, are we talking about the experience of women being treated like... well, objects?

mistymason1 said:You really think she’s never going to look you in the eye and ask, "So, who exactly is my dad?" 🙄
Like I said, you still haven't experienced the real deal. It’s like saying you love BBQ without ever having tried a slow-smoked brisket.
Look, Shero, you’re still living in a dream world. There’s no knight in shining armor coming to save the day—you're either going to learn that the hard way or the even harder way.

You’ve got a point—you’re basically saying I hide my actual opinions behind a veil of "just being neutral." It’s like a chef who claims they aren't picking the ingredients just to stay unbiased. But look, if we're being real, the mods should be looking at the subtext, not just the literal words, and the admins are there to back them up when things get subtle.

Here’s some of the "proof" behind why you got a partial. I honestly thought about scrapping this because, let’s be real, it looks a little sketchy—kind of like how you're implying someone just gets a partial out of nowhere without a massive file of warnings or a crazy track record. But, as usual, you have to dig just a little bit beneath the surface to actually make sense of things.

Hey there, just a heads up, the partial remains.
feralpilot0 said:Wait—so apparently starting a thread to wish people a Merry Christmas is somehow considered "threatening" now? Is that how we're playing this? 😕 Are you actually serious? 😁

It isn't exclusive to believers—though its purpose is pretty obvious from the title—providing greetings and a pleasant atmosphere for those actually capable of sharing them without feeling nauseous, for once.

Who even bothers to follow the topic guidelines anymore? Some people just want to kill the entire vibe—dragging everything off course just to derail the point—simply because they’re trolling. Is that really all some folks have to offer?
That’s the textbook definition—if you want to be that literal.

Usually, nobody objects to starting a discussion about the origins of Christmas—but shouldn't one approach such topics with a bit of nuance and actual insight, wouldn't you agree?

If someone feels threatened—as if that’s even possible (lol)—or somehow shortchanged... Just by existing—is that really enough? Such topics—really—are meant for the believers, aren't they? As per the attached PDF—if you even care to look at it.If he starts losing his grip on his own convictions—well, then we’ve got a much bigger problem on our hands.

Enough said.

I’m saying this one last time before I lock it.

A Christmas thread isn't hurting anyone, anywhere.

I checked in with Nicole James and the rest of the mod team about that post; we talked it through, and I even asked them why they felt that way. I did my own digging too, and honestly, I don't think the guy was trying to troll. I'll respect that people see it differently. I just asked that, moving forward, we avoid posting things in these kinds of threads that could—again, *could*—come off as provocative.

🙂
Susan Price30 said:
What Nicole James will decide to do next year remains an open question for all of us, so let's just wait and see how things unfold.

If I understood him correctly, the whole idea of a Christian Christmas discussion on Christmas Day shouldn't even be allowed in the Religion section, simply because he felt that a topic about Christmas was bothersome which is why he posted that message in the "holiday greetings" thread, right?

He also mentioned here that the Religion sub-forum isn't "exclusive to believers"—which implies that this supposed "dominance" of a faith that doesn't even seem to exist is actually bothering him. This concept of "exclusivity" is a bit of a myth anyway, since we have separate sub-forums like Spirituality for those with pagan or New Age beliefs, and Mysticism/Alternative for others, both of which seem to function perfectly fine within their own dedicated spaces.

The point I’d really like addressed is why anyone would think religious people should be denied access to the one specific space intended for them—the space meant for religious discussion and expression.

In other words, why do others (pagans, alternative groups, etc.) have their own designated areas, yet in the Religion section, religious individuals are suffocated—to the point where a moderator (if we follow his logic) wouldn't even want to see a Christmas thread or feel comfortable offering greetings to those celebrating the holiday??

If anyone ever needed a clear illustration of what suffocating believers looks like on this sub-forum, perhaps this is the perfect example of the sad reality we're seeing.

Thank you.

You didn't quite catch my drift. There’s no rule saying people can't wish each other a Merry Christmas or a Happy New Year on a PDF. That wasn't even what he was complaining about, and that definitely wasn't his reason for posting. Honestly, I’m not going to drag this out any further because there’s really no point. It’s just one person claiming one thing while I claim another. Let's just agree to disagree; dragging this on is just a waste of time spent trying to prove someone else wrong.

It's true that the religion subforum isn't just a private club for believers. There isn't an exclusive section on this forum reserved for any specific group of people. Religion is a topic anyone can jump into, as long as you're registered and don't have any active bans preventing you from posting here or in that subforum. It’s not about gatekeeping; everyone has the right to share their thoughts on the subject, provided they play by the rules. I don't see why pointing out that the religion subforum isn't an exclusive space should be taken as an attack on believers or anyone else. It’s just a plain old fact.

Religion is basically a space for us to chat about faith, different religions, and anything else that falls under that umbrella. This isn't just for strictly "religious" debates—sometimes people might just be phrasing things a bit weirdly, and that's okay too.

Religion isn't just for the religious types, and spirituality isn't strictly for the non-religious or pagans either. Every sub-forum here is open to everyone.
Nicholas King said:And he’ll just—quite predictably—respond with, "Yeah, obviously I was trolling, did you see how bad I wrecked the thread, huh? Huh? Huh?" 😕

Trolling isn't always about someone's underlying intentions—some people just have a natural, innate talent for it on these forums, trolling even when they think they're being perfectly well-meaning. The way Nicole James jumped in, well, nomen est omen—that whole ego-trip of "me, me, me, look at me, this is what I'm celebrating"—is absolutely trolling. It shows a complete lack of respect for the actual topic and for everyone else participating in it.

But, let's set that aside for a moment: you definitely seem to be prone to a very specific kind of over-analyzing (if you will) of anything a moderator says. Not long ago, after you interpreted Kowino saying "I don't think I did anything wrong" as "both of them know they messed up", and now you're reading "Next year I'll open a massive mega-thread for all the various holiday greetings so nobody accidentally ends up feeling offended..." as if it means "you guys can go screw yourselves next year since I'll be the one opening my own consolidated mega-thread," instead of reading it as "Nicole won't be doing this anymore".

I get the urge—really, I do—to try and smooth over the nonsensical errors or nonsense coming from the mod team, but it probably wouldn't be such a bad idea to stop trying to satisfy that urge by insulting the basic common sense of the rest of the forum users.

Look, Nicholas King, this thread isn't a place for me to sit here and listen to your deep dives into my personality as an admin. There's already a spot for you to air your grievances if you want. Please take those kinds of observations over to the "Questions for administration - comments and off-topic" thread. If you have actual questions, use the "Questions for administration" thread.

As for what Nicole James does next year, that's anyone's guess, so let's just wait and see.

Regarding that part in bold—"you’ve got people on this forum who are just born trolls, even when they think they're being perfectly nice"—I'm 100% with you. I'd even go as far as to say those types use trolling to vent their real-life frustrations online just to feed their ego or whatever. But hey, that's life; we've gotta deal with them.
Nicholas King said:And how exactly did you reach such a definitive conclusion? 😕

Walking into a thread dedicated to wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and immediately pivoting to celebrating the day of the Sun or whatever else—well, it’s basically rewriting someone else's playbook, even if they stay silent about it. I mean, someone could have just as easily decided to wish people a happy birthday for Humphrey Bogart instead. People don't celebrate a random date; they don't celebrate December 25th just for the sake of the calendar, they celebrate Christmas—Jesus' birth and all that jazz. It's meant to be a gesture of goodwill toward everyone.

Is it really that difficult—or perhaps just too unbearable—to let them enjoy their greetings in peace, without poking fun at them from behind the safety of a red username paired with a purple "he definitely wasn't provoking anyone" backup? Does one always have to demonstrate Nicole James's greatness everywhere, making sure to show that I (blah, blah, blah) am out here celebrating something entirely different?

By asking him myself. Not just him, but I checked with the other moderators too, and I even went out of my way to look into how things are handled here.

I get that his post probably shouldn't have happened, and he should've just said we don't do that anymore. But no, I really don't think he was trolling.

mistymason1, you’re definitely keeping that partial credit.
Susan Price30 said:But that has nothing to do with Christianity or the Christmas we know and celebrate, right?
The deity Sol Invictus ("unconquered sun") isn't related to Christ; it's a pagan god often identified with Mithras, the primary deity of the Greco-Roman mystery cult Mithraism during the reign of the Roman Emperor Aurelian back in 274 AD. It's worth noting that today, that cult is virtually non-existent—at least not in the form it held back then.

This thread was started to celebrate Christmas—the Christian holiday marking the birth of Jesus Christ. Since Nicole James doesn't believe in or follow the cult of Mithraism, but instead identifies as an atheist or anti-theist (and since celebrating on the exact same day wouldn't be called Christmas), it definitely feels like a provocation to those of us who celebrate Christmas.

Thanks for the effort, Daniel Ward87, and for always trying to smooth things over. However, it’s significant that Nicole James doesn't feel the need to offer an explanation or an apology to the people here who expressed their frustration and find her post irrelevant to the topic.

It's true that there isn't much connection to the Christmas we celebrate today. Also, while Sol Invictus isn't tied to Christ, as I mentioned in the link, the idea of bringing Christ closer to pagans by blending religious foundations is an old story—anyone with even a basic understanding of religion knows how that works. Okay, I get that this is a bit off-topic for a holiday greeting thread, but I just wanted to clarify that there was no intentional trolling going on here.

One thing is for sure: Nicole James wasn't trying to be provocative, believe me. However, I suggested keeping the Christmas greetings and similar stuff to a more basic level just to avoid any unnecessary drama.
Amy Castillo4 said:I’m honestly just sitting here wondering why. 🤔
Alright, here we go—Nicole James is going to give us the answer.

Can you tell me, while we're at it, what was actually the point of that post you made on the Christmas greetings thread?
Either I completely missed the point, or you were just being provocative—or maybe you were actually trying to be funny? Hard to tell.
🤷

Neither. I read the text, asked the mods for some clarity, and did a little digging online to get up to speed on the literature.

It wasn't a provocation at all; it was actually a pretty positive sentiment. Sure, it might sound edgy, but celebrating certain dates—especially December 25th—has been around since forever, long before Jesus Christ showed up. It's no secret how various holidays, especially Christian ones, came to be. Even Jesus himself is depicted as Sol Invictus http://hr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datotek..._Invictus.jpeg. So, there's no provocation here; if anything, it's just a basic historical fact.
