Could you give me an example of what you mean? It’s pretty tough to wrap my head around a question or a comment that's this broad.
What's the logic behind handing out partial bans? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Larry Walker24 said:In my book, partial bans for history or TV threads are overkill. Plus, you’ve got guys like BP-northern constantly trolling the tennis subforum, yet somehow that just gets swept under the rug. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 🙄🙄🙄🙄

A partial ban isn't just handed out because someone felt like it. Before mods even consider a partial ban, they usually drop warnings, issue strikes, or straight-up ban users and scrub posts to prevent things from escalating. It’s typically the end of the line after we've put up with someone's nonsense for a long time.

Once a request for a partial ban comes in, the admins check the user's track record before making the final call.

Anyway, thanks for getting back to me and for the input.

It really helps us out when users flag posts that don't belong here. Ego mentioned that these hadn't been reported yet. Next time, could you please hit that little triangle icon with the exclamation point? That’s the best way to make sure the mods actually see it and can jump in to fix things.

Anthony Cook70 said:The term itself isn't that heavy-handed, so it feels like a waste if someone gets a permanent ban over it.

Calling someone a "midget" is definitely offensive, even to people with dwarfism. Like Nika said, just steer clear of that word and you won't have any issues.
Do we need a Ban Hammer subreddit? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Henry Hernandez7 said:Don't go twisting the truth.

I’m not even gonna argue—I haven't been hit by the Ban Hammer, nor have I been getting any special treatment.

I was just making a point about why that other guy didn't get hit with the same Ban Hammer I did. Looks like I'll be waiting for that reply until the cows come home.

And you’re still coming at me with threats about permanent or partial bans? Come on, man, chill out. Just because you’ve got the moderator tools doesn't mean you should act like you're better than everyone else.

Look, you aren't going to be waiting forever for an answer. Your real issue is that you’re convinced you're right and everyone else is wrong, which is why we’re just spinning our wheels here. Just because the replies don't fit your narrative doesn't mean there isn't actual communication happening over on the Ban Hammer.

Just tell me which moderator you're talking about and we can look into it.

So what? You're acting like everyone HAS to go through "official" channels just to change a nickname. They don't. They can just shoot over a PM. Whether the Administrator actually does it or not is entirely up to them.

vividtiger922 said:Isn't having a dedicated thread for nickname changes basically there to create a paper trail, just to keep things transparent?

I mean, a new user might have no clue that someone used to be a Moderator. They won't have any idea where God went or who this Gotspođa character with the weird symbols is if they just joined today.

So, to avoid anyone playing the "I didn't know" card, we follow a simple procedure. Not everyone has access to the Moderator tools, and they aren't required to know who an old staff member was. Honestly, following the rules seems way easier than dealing with these kinds of debates.

Let's stick to this for now and save the whole "unannounced staff changes" debate for another time. 😍

There's also the "user notes" feature available. I personally use it as a log since I've handled a few nickname changes for folks who reached out via PM.

Anthony Barrett37 said:Alright, am I actually entitled to a response from supermoderator rustydrifter10 or Administrator Daniel Ward87, or is this just how we're doing things now? We used to call them out, and now we're just supposed to ignore their requests? Real classy. image

That moderator has always had those weird symbols in her handle, so it makes sense to just tweak the nickname while keeping the same vibe.

Former mods still have access to the Moderator tools, so they don't even need to use the public thread for nickname change requests.

hiddenpuma75,

I caught up with the Spirituality mods, and we decided it’s best if you step away from the Spirituality boards. Just a heads-up: for us admins and mods, it’s not about how many threads you post, it’s about how you carry yourself and how you treat people in the comments. Just something to keep in mind.
Official complaint regarding... in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I’ve gone through the thread and looked at the posts directed at you along with the moderator warnings, so based on all that, you’re getting a partial ban. Look, I’m totally fine with you having your own take on a discussion, but in this specific case, your approach is just killing the vibe of the whole thread. Since you didn't back off even after the warning, we have to go with a partial ban.
What's the deal with ACTA? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
Henry Hernandez7 said:1. I wasn't actually talking about my own posts (though I have some), I was talking about how he wipes out anything where someone drops a link to back up their point. To me, it just feels like his personal opinion is being used to decide what counts as "quality" content or not.

2. Honestly, I’m mostly on here by accident. I keep the site open on my phone, and since my phone is basically glued to my hand, whenever I’m hanging out at a Starbucks... I just pull it out and end up browsing forums.

So, you're essentially saying it's just your gut feeling that Sam Green73 is censoring people. You're totally entitled to feel that way, but Sam Green73 isn't playing censor—he's just cleaning up stuff that breaks the rules. A lot of folks post links thinking they're speaking for themselves, but that's not how it works here.

"Why should your judgment be the gold standard when deciding what counts as low-quality? And wouldn't you basically expect someone to say, 'Maybe I misread the situation, hey, we're all human...'"
It’s valid up to a point because his job as a moderator is specifically to clear out posts that don't add anything to the conversation. It’s not just his opinion, either; looking back at some of your old stuff in the Politics section that Sam Green7 (and others) cleared out, I honestly think they should have been deleted too since they weren't adding much value.

If I could give you some friendly advice, try rephrasing that to "I spend a lot of time away from the Forum." Living on a message board 24/7 isn't exactly great for your mental health.

Henry Hernandez7 said:So why'd you go ahead and delete my thread where I was just sharing avatars with the guys, and now I'm getting slapped with a 30-point penalty too??

It’s because that thread goes against our politics subforum rules since there isn't any actual discussion happening. If you really want to swap avatars, we have the various subforum which is a much better spot for that kind of stuff.

Larry Walker24 said:then you clearly aren't reading my posts!!! because my actual take would be obvious!

Besides, there's an ignore button—so just mute me if it's that big of a deal!

There's also the Offtopic/Spam rule, where you lose 10 points for every copy-paste job. Any post that's just a mindless rip-off without adding any actual insight is basically spam, since anyone hanging out on Reddit can find that info themselves. On the Politics sub, those kinds of posts break the rules, and honestly, I think they violate the spirit of this whole site too.

Like Tim mentioned earlier, you really need to step up the quality of your posts. Otherwise, the mods might start nuking every single one of them, and if this keeps up, a partial ban is definitely on the table.

What's even the point of voting?
So, why doesn't the majority just make the call?

Just a heads up—whenever you see me posting in blue, that’s not my own take; it's just the official word from the admin team.
rustydrifter10 said:Comparing this to prison just doesn't cut it. Isn't the whole point of prison to distance people from society? It’s not just about cutting people off from talking to one another; it's actually how she finds fulfillment. Besides, they have solitary confinement too, if we're really talking about prison life. 😁

One of those... 😉Another thing we could aim for would be...
Henry Hernandez7 said:I know it doesn't matter much to those of you who never wrap things up on the "one" side, but for us folks who find ourselves there a bit more often...That would be such a massive boost for motivation and getting back on track..

Honestly, looking back at your track record, you've been sidelined more than a few times. I’m not sure if being put on ice like that actually helped you get your head in the game or stay motivated.

I don't see any point in dragging this out. The proposal is rejected. 🙂

Henry Hernandez7 said:The whole idea is just to make the time fly by a bit. It’d be nice to actually chat like real people—it's not like anything major would happen to the rest of the board.

What's even the point of inmates hanging out together in the yard?

Maybe give that proposal a second thought?

Serving a ban is basically just being put in time-out. A forum is built for talking, so if you’re banned, it means you’ve been cut off from everyone except the mods. It really just gives you a moment to sit back and wonder why you ended up in a spot where you aren't allowed to speak.

So, it’s a no-go. Deal with it.

Henry Hernandez7 said:Hey everyone, I’ve got an idea for those of us who hang out in the ban corner a bit more often. We should probably lobby the admins to give us some kind of chat feature while we're sitting in the FBI section, just so we can actually talk about stuff.

I honestly came up with this because I was bored out of my mind waiting out a three-day suspension. Even guys in federal prison get to talk to one another; why shouldn't we be allowed to chat, unless we're already out on parole?

What do you all think?

Proposal denied.

The whole point of this forum is discussion. The whole point of a ban is to cut off communication because someone went off the rails. What's the point of a penalty if we just let people keep talking in the FBI section?
