Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
I think I totally botched my Windows 7 installation.

All I can see is the C: Drive, even though I was pretty sure I set up two separate partitions.
What’s the move here—do I have to wipe everything and just start from scratch?

The C: Drive is sitting at 100 GB, but the rest of the space is just playing hide and seek with me; I can't find it anywhere.😕

Man, Matthew Young35, you're getting way too deep into the weeds for me with all this detail 😵

Thanks for all the help, everyone.

I definitely picked up a lot from that PDF.👍

I guess I’ll just go ahead and slap Windows XP on it; I was originally thinking about sticking with Windows 7 just because the install seemed like less of a headache.

Since my new rig is arriving in a few days anyway, this old machine is basically just going to be a glorified storage drive for photos and docs, but it really needs a total wipe since it's acting buggy and feels totally cluttered.

To be honest, I'm a little nervous it won't even survive the installation process—it actually overheated and shut itself down right when I tried to jump into the BIOS.

The new one is definitely getting Windows Ultimate😁.

By the way, does anyone know what the actual deal is with the difference between 32-bit and 64-bit versions?

I finally upgraded my mom's old laptop from Windows Starter to Windows Ultimate.
It feels like a total night and day difference since everything is running way smoother now.🤷

I’m still planning on doing my own install via a USB drive—the BIOS gives me that option😉 but I'm honestly a bit worried about whether Windows 7 can even handle my poor little machine.

The specs are pretty rough:
it's rocking 512MB of RAM and an 80GB hard drive, and the thing is already seven years old.😁

Do you think it'll actually work?
Does anyone know how long it usually takes for a package to get sent back to the sender if it's undeliverable?
It’s already been nine days, and normally my stuff shows up within two or three.
How much longer should I just sit tight and wait?

Thanks so much for the hand, I really appreciate it!😉

Look, if you weren't feeling up to answering, you could have just skipped the question entirely. No biggie.🙄

Getting a USB to actually boot up is probably going to be one of those little hurdles that feels like a total headache, but I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually.😬

I honestly don't think I'd even know how to get out of there,😂

I’ve got another quick question about the installation process if anyone’s got a second to help me out.

I haven't quite gotten around to wiping that starter version yet—I'm planning to tackle that over the weekend since I really need some extra breathing room to get it done.

The first time I ever did an install was on my mom's brand new empty laptop.

Now that I've realized it isn't actually that big of a deal, I want to wipe my own machine and load up some fresh Windows, but my disc drive is being super finicky and won't even read the CD.

I figured out you can do the whole thing via USB instead, but I'm a little nervous about the part where you have to go into the BIOS and mess with the boot priority to select the DVD/CD drive.
How do I actually tell the system to kick off the installation from a USB drive?
I don't recall seeing an option for that at all; it just seemed like there was the hard drive and the CD, and that was it.🤷

I'll just roll with that then, thanks!

I've got Windows 7 Ultimate—is that good enough, or should I grab Home Premium instead?

So, I'm basically calling it quits on the upgrade and just going for a clean install from scratch.

When I installed Starter, I didn't realize what kind of limited version I was dealing with, so now I can't even change my desktop wallpaper🙄,and who knows what else it's blocking me from doing😕, so I'd rather just wipe the slate clean while there isn't much on the laptop yet.

I checked that out, but honestly, I’d probably just go the old-school route and run it straight from a disc😁

Since it looks like the usual way isn't an option, I'm wondering how the install actually works once you get past that hurdle—like, when I kick off the new setup, will it just roll right over everything using that starter, or am I going to have to go in and manually wipe some stuff out first?
Is this something that’s going to be a total headache or more of a breeze to pull off?
Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
Is it actually doable to jump from Windows 7 Starter straight up to Home Premium using a disc
?
All I can find online are these instructions for upgrading through some Windows Live upgrade tool via the web
.
If there's a way to just pop the disc in and do it, does anyone have a solid tutorial they could point me toward😁?
So I was dropping off a package worth $33 (shipping was $6.00) earlier today, and the lady at the counter was being super intense about me disclosing exactly what was inside, basically saying she wouldn't even touch it otherwise.
She claimed it’s some kind of new regulation they have to follow now. Anyone know if that's actually legit?

Now that everything is settled, we really ought to take some lessons from this experience to apply to our next outing, holiday, school essay, or movie night...

But what kind of lesson, and for who?😁

I'm not sure if I totally caught her drift in those last few posts, but it feels like she still doesn't see any issue here, other than continuing to blame the teacher.🤷

Kimberly Robinson2 said:No way. First off, you don't eat in a movie theater—it's just not how it works.

And that question of yours? It’s pretty damn provocative, isn't it?

And for all those people who keep insisting that he "borrowed" it—or that she "lent" it to him—let me stop you right there: that’s just plain wrong. He didn't ask for it, and I certainly didn't go asking her to lend it to him. She just handed it over because she didn't want to be the only one sitting there without anything to eat. Fine, whatever... but let's play this out—if I hadn't signed him up for that summer camp in the woods, would she have "lent" him that, too?

The whole thing boils down to her deciding—all on her own, mind you—that she was going to lend something out. Nobody actually asked her to do that. Look, I’m glad she stepped up and was generous, really, I am, but I feel like I've said this a hundred times already: she could have just made it simple. She could have just sent her mom to the school to handle it, but no—instead, she tells him to tell me, and then somehow it turns into me having to send the money through him! It's just unnecessary drama.

You honestly can't really wrap your head around it until you actually hear her talk.🙂Maybe the little guy's just a bit too shy to come clean about it.

First off, Mom already knew the night before that we were hitting up McDonald's for the trip, so even after all the money we blew... $2.00 For a snack, she really could've thrown in a little more. $6.75 She should've slipped him five bucks, or even just a couple of singles, for some ice cream. She knew exactly what was happening—that kid was staring at his shoes while everyone else was digging in. I mean, if I recall her mentioning it in another post, she wasn't short on cash or anything, so there's really no excuse.
Second off, if I don't have... $6.75 Honestly, if I were in that position, I wouldn't even let my kid go on that trip. It just isn't worth it to put them through that kind of awkwardness or discomfort.
Honestly, the thing I resent most about my mom is how she handled everything after that incident. She basically let the kid sit there for days while his Teacher interrogated him about the money, all while she was busy trashing the school, the Teacher, and the whole trip count on online forums. If she actually cared, she would have walked into that school the very next morning, handed back the cash, and had a real conversation with the administration to make sure nothing like that ever happened again. But no, that’s not her style. Instead, she sent him off to the movies a day or two later just so he wouldn't feel "isolated," which is hilarious because she’s the one who caused the mess in the first place. It’s fine if he feels left out at McDonald's because of her mistakes, but God forbid the Teacher is held accountable. And yet, she still makes sure he goes on every single field trip, even that summer program. $400Even if you try to hide it, it’s still gonna show. No point in pretending otherwise. $1.75 Even if he knows all those kids are heading straight to McDonald's, he's still going for the ice cream.

Is the Teacher actually at fault here?🙄
The Teacher did the right thing by letting the kid have that cash for a Happy Meal, but I’ve gotta say, I’m not a fan of her asking for those 21 bucks back.
Honestly, I’m seeing a lot of double standards here. You guys are all over this Teacher for asking for a measly couple of bucks, but then you turn around and act like the mom is totally justified in her position. It's pretty hypocritical if you ask me. $7.00 Look, we’re talking serious cash here. How on earth do you guys actually know that Teacher has that kind of money? $7.00 And it's not like we're talking about a massive fortune here, right?

Exactly. I'm pretty sure the little guy learned his "lesson" and is going to remember that trip—and especially McDonald's—for the rest of his life😢.

It’s like when you’re driving down a highway in the middle of nowhere and suddenly realize the GPS just completely cut out—you're basically flying blind without that connection to the world. kaže:
I’m not really one for getting into heated debates on these forums, but hey, sorry if I'm stepping on any toes, but do you actually know what that word even means?I don't have anything to say right now.
It’s kind of like what someone else already pointed out—it just goes without saying. $6.75 Wealth means different things to everyone, but I honestly feel like any mother would give her kids the world if she could. I totally get where that mom was coming from because I grew up constantly hearing the phrase "we can't afford it," and it always stung seeing other kids with stuff I just didn't have. As someone who hopes to be a mom one day, I can only imagine how heavy that weight feels—that gut-punch feeling when you have to send your kid off on a school trip knowing they don't have any pocket money. It’s not like she’s choosing to struggle; she’s just doing her best with what she's got. At the end of the day, you can't just go out and have kids whenever you want, so you just have to make it work. Thank God I won't have to carry that specific kind of guilt.

I’m totally convinced my mom didn't have those kinds of thoughts, you know? It's just like how some people can see right through a situation while others are still trying to figure out the basic setup. $6.75I'm just sharing what I'd probably do if I were actually standing in her shoes for a second.
I’d probably take a completely different approach to this, honestly. Like, I'm just struggling to see where we're not on the same page—what part of this isn't clicking for you?
Even if that whole mess actually went down, I’d be right there at her place that same day to get everything squared away, because honestly, I wouldn't even dream of starting some massive drama online without having all my facts straight first.

I honestly couldn't live with myself if I ever let my kid end up caught up in something like that.
Honestly, you could’ve just pulled the teacher aside before everything kicked off that night and let her know the situation—like, tell her the whole holiday feast was already paid for and there was zero cash left over for a trip to McDonald's.

Honestly, we don't have a clue what was actually going down over there or why she decided to hand him that cash; I mean, it’s not like she was covering his losses if he had already completely blown through his savings, so maybe she just figured Mom hadn't seen the notification yet?

Honestly, all this chatter about hitting up McDonald's and those school field trips is totally off the rails; it feels like we're drifting into a completely different conversation altogether.

We’re just hanging out waiting for Mom to find a free minute to swing by the teacher's office so we can get the real scoop on how things are going.☕

copperheron18 said:It’s easy to sit here on this forum and play the expert, but I doubt anyone would actually want to pick a fight with a teacher who will be instructing their child for at least another year or two. You really should try to handle this gracefully—return that blessed $7.00 and then have a serious talk with your kid about not taking money in the future.

As for the teacher giving him cash, she clearly had nothing but good intentions. She felt bad seeing a child watch everyone else eat while he sat there with nothing. Apparently, instead of having those kind intentions, she should have just let the poor kid suffer and stare at what everyone else had. And the fact that she reminded him about the money? Clearly, she expected the little guy to tell his mom immediately so she could send it back right away. She wasn't asking for interest; she was simply asking for what she lent out of pure kindness—which, apparently, is a mistake because you end up looking like the villain anyway.

$7.00 It’s truly a small amount of money. Now, someone might argue that for someone struggling, it’s a lot, but who is to say it wasn't also a significant amount for the teacher to part with, which is why she expects it back?

I don't see why there's such a massive fuss. No sane person would cause this much drama over a few bucks $7.00; it's just not worth it, especially in this situation. Besides, the kid could have simply said no if he wanted to. Tomorrow or the day after, he can just borrow some change from a friend for an ice cream or a candy bar or whatever.

The teacher didn't force him to take the money; she merely offered help during a very awkward moment for a child. In my opinion, the mother should actually be grateful that the teacher spared her son that embarrassment, seeing as how everyone else had $6.75, while her child didn't even have enough for $1.75... basically the cost of the cheapest ice cream cone imaginable...

Totally agree.👍

What bothers me even more is that this whole thread turned into a debate about whether the teacher acted appropriately, when the truth is the little guy is just caught in the middle of a misunderstanding between his mom and the teacher that just keeps dragging on.

🤦

Is it really my mom's fault that the teacher didn't give them enough heads-up? I mean, what was she supposed to do? Go knocking on all her friends' and relatives' doors the night before a field trip just to scramble together some cash? Give me a break...

Honestly, here’s how I’d handle it. I’d just be straight up with her. I’d tell her that nobody needs to be blindsided by last-minute news like that. And look, my kid isn't an orphan—they have both a mom and a dad who actually care. You don't just spring stuff on people; you ask for permission or at least try to coordinate with the parents first. It’s just common sense, right?

I’d just insist they eat sandwiches or maybe just pack $6.75🤷

Since Mom found out everything her kid would have to deal with just the night before, I honestly feel like she messed up by letting it happen.
I don't get why everyone's making such a big deal out of this.

At the end of the day, my kid would either eat what everyone else is eating or they wouldn't go at all.

And frankly, I’m dying to hear what the teacher thinks about any of this.
