Honestly, the only person here actually putting a friendship on the line over some wedding duties is you. If your ego is feeling a little bruised and that's enough to make you toss a "friend" aside, then hey, maybe he did pick the right person to be his best man after all.
Maybe the real reason is simply that this other guy has more money than you and your buddy wanted to treat you to a good time. The bottom line is that he asked. If you were actually the kind of friend you claim to be, you would have just told him straight up what you were thinking from the jump.
I'm not trying to drag you, but I am suggesting you take a second to look at the other side of the coin here. Since you seem to be looking at this whole mess through a purely self-centered lens, I'm guessing you aren't married yet and have absolutely no clue how much of a massive headache organizing something like this actually is.
