If you strike out, just spin up a VM ( https://www.vmware.com/products/player ). Then throw Windows XP onto the VM. Give it one core and a bit of RAM, then just install the old XP drivers for that printer. Honestly, it’s the only way to keep those ancient printers running on Windows 7.

Better to go with a cheaper CPU. If my rig can handle rendering two 27" displays at once without breaking a sweat, it'll chew through your posters just fine.

Same print head, same mechanics, same ink. Only thing is the HP 2800 has a garbage driver, so you have to use the CP 1700 driver—which used to be the gold standard for designers back in the day.

Because HP wants to force their loyal customers to go buy a B9180 if they want actual Photo quality.

The CP was never the designer's choice. You're talking nonsense. I mostly saw that thing in architecture firms as a cheap alternative to plotters. For Photo printing, it's absolute trash. Today's HP MF units are basically just CP 1700s in disguise when it comes to photo work. The CP is fine for people with zero standards. They pushed it because it shares heads and ink with the big plotters. If you buy a plotter, you usually grab a CP too. So stop acting like it's some legendary machine just to sell more units.

The Midwest is alright. People there have been bitter ever since they lost their local control during that whole yogurt revolution era. That was my first takeaway. Also, they hate it when outsiders try to force their views on Buddy. They’re pretty low-key people. Personally, I dig the Midwest as a visitor. The food is killer—especially all the seafood. 🙂

There is no media jam.

Then the drum is shot. Why are you even bothering? For like $90, you could grab a used model that replaced the old 15 series. Brand new, works fine, comes with toner. A single genuine replacement toner for an LJ 1000 is like $75. A whole new printer will run you about $200.
If the drum's gone, don't waste the money fixing it. It's all cheap junk anyway.

No way. Sounds like you had a paper jam and ever since, the thing's been acting up. I've got an old LaserJet 1000 myself. When the toner runs dry, you usually just get faded spots. This mess you're describing sounds more like your rollers are trashed. That part I posted is just a consumable—it's all about how the paper feeds through. Standard stuff for the LJ series.
Mine's been chugging along for almost ten years now, and when the toner dies, it doesn't leave streaks. Try a different cartridge, but honestly, I doubt that's the culprit. If it were the drum, you'd see tiny little specks everywhere. Like... fine toner dust sprayed all over the page. Hard to describe. But that's usually what happens.
