David Anderson66 said:...I started a thread on Chatroom to reconnect with some folks from a defunct forum, and now a few of them have reached out saying they registered, but they can't post or reply to anything. ...

I took a look at that thread (it has nine posts right now).

David Anderson66 said:...I'm trying to figure out what the issue might be since they claim they registered properly on Reddit, yet they still can't write anything. ...

At first glance, this doesn't look like a purely technical glitch—the thread was created successfully, posts are visible, and the numbering is correct...

No, but I hope you all manage to get together

Look, my post was barely even off-topic compared to the absolute dumpster fire of threads most people post in here—maybe take a second to actually look at your own post history? Not to mention those other threads, like that mess about digital health passes and vaccine passports. Your standards for what counts as "off-topic" seem a little... inconsistent.
The point wasn't some diary entry about my own medical history after getting the shot; it was about observing how everyone else started acting once they got theirs.
And calling it a "personal analysis of forum users" is just a fancy way of saying I’m making an objective observation.
Honestly, it's a shame you deleted that post. It touches on something incredibly vital given the whole pandemic situation we're stuck in—something I see playing out constantly in my daily life and my work.

Good grief, @Larry Walker24... as if there aren't at least six others acting like that on this subforum anyway.

... Who knows. There are maybe six people who actually run that subforum anyway.
The question was purely rhetorical. ☕

(Since my colleague @Childish seems offended—given that topics like this on this forum just waste everyone's precious time...)

No bootable disk error - help needed! in Laptops ·
urbanwalker2 said:... and when I rebooted, it said there was no bootable device. That doesn't make sense, because the boot drive is C (SSD) where the apps live, notD, which holds my files. ...

?

If those 'boot_stuff' (bootmgr etc.) files aren't sitting in the Hard drive (C: e.g.) directory,
then they should be tucked away in some other folder within the macOS root directory
like C:/Windows/Boot/PCAT, for instance.
Or maybe in
C:/Windows/WinSxS/...

But, where those files actually reside (they all belong on a single drive—specifically the one running the OS) isn't your concern...

...unless you manually moved them to different folders or drives based on your own idea of
"how things should work"... ...somewhere among the data(?)...

Jerry Robinson56 said:...it’s not about 5 points, it’s about the will to live...
...this isn't even about points; it's about injustice. You get me?
...
...I just want to show that I understand Markkonen perfectly...

Whatever. Injustice is just a subjective perception of "fairness."

Anyone feeling slighted by a penalty regarding their standing will inevitably label that penalty as "unfair treatment."
I understand that. But there is another side, which feels an equal sense of injustice:

- injustice toward the effort put into ensuring a specific sub-forum (Natural Sciences, History, etc.) remains a reliable source of information with clear topics... injustice toward the work invested here and there... (certain "deviations" from the core vision of one or more moderators—visions that are clearly visible in a positive way on the sub-forums where they are enforced)

- injustice toward temporary leniency, or rather, tolerating things that wouldn't normally be acceptable... ('exploiting' a moderator's temporary patience)

- injustice toward warnings or low-point penalties, if the point count could have been higher... ('ingratitude' from users toward the moderator)

- injustice toward the users who actually follow the moderator's instructions when given... ('moderator ingratitude' toward those users when the moderator overlooks someone 'problematic')

It is much easier for individuals within a group to follow that group's rules than it is to "distribute justice" among individuals to benefit the group as a whole.

Far away, very far... 🤔 - to Pittsburgh?

I was there once... but a few miles before you even arrive, there is almost nothing. There is no point going to that wasteland, let alone further...
Better to stay home and help us change the internet.

Not a chance. I haven't had any luck lately—I doubt I'll ever pull a single card again.

If you mean this:

coppersailor28 said:...I'm not on your side in this thread—since you're wrong. ...

...In my opinion, they're wrong (exactly why these threads exist, exactly what this topic is about...).

I don't read the 'History' PDF, let alone write in there. It's a lack of interest in history combined with insufficient skill to write on such topics...

And if you mean 'has the right to appeal a strike', then obviously they have that right, but the right to appeal should be done in the specific designated thread.

What kind of appeals over a mere 5 penalty points in a thread created specifically for that purpose are you all making?

hollowwalker24 said:It isn't about the points. It’s about the fact that the moderator handed out a penalty for something I didn't even do. ...

Right, you haven't rested... (which was explicitly stated in the penalty justification).

hollowwalker24 said:...Furthermore, after I sent him a private message asking, "Excuse me, is there some kind of misunderstanding here?"
The moderator replied: "No." ...

And what exactly were you expecting him to say?
"Sir, there is absolutely no misunderstanding."?

hollowwalker24 said:...Meanwhile, this same moderator is doing the exact things he hands out penalties and points for. Apparently, the rules he enforces don't apply to himself. ...

Listen to @Markkonen (and his entourage):
"Zoran, you're over-moderating—take a break."

hollowwalker24 said:...In addition, I'll draw an analogy: a moderator handing out penalties for things people didn't do, using point totals to classify severity, is akin to domestic violence.

- 5 points - wife looks at her husband the wrong way, gets hit in the head with a skillet
- 50 points - wife didn't put enough soup in his bowl, husband breaks her arm
- 500 points - wife goes out for coffee with friends and doesn't reply to a text immediately, husband breaks both her legs

Does the woman "deserve" those points, regardless of whether it's 5, 50, or 500? ...

I assume you know exactly what kind of 'husband' you have and what his 'house rules' are.
How could you even think 'looking at him wrong' was an option?!

I'm not exactly a tech pro, so I was wondering... is this app only for Android? Or did I totally miss something... 😵😵

I'm just as lost as you are.

My assumption was that if you have an Android OS ('smartphone') with Family Link installed, the control is limited to those two specific devices ('the phone' & your router) 🤷

A quick internet (Google Translate):
Does Google Family Link work on a computer?

Google Family Link is a free parental control app developed by Google that lets parents set rules for their children or teens regarding digital technology use. It is available for Android and iOS mobile phones, as well as for Windows computers using a compatible emulator

*FAQ: An information device or software used to run programs written for a different type of computer

PC emulator for "google family link"

Google Family Link for parents
(info, download etc)

or this? (Google Family Link for parents for PC /File size: 147.25 MB ?!!!/)

These are all just suggestions—I don't have any hands-on experience with them, nor can I offer anything remotely intelligent about it.
Likely someone else on the forum will know more—@fadedorca66 for instance.

How to install Windows 10 from Linux in IT Support ·
driftingcanyon2 As specified by darkmason40:
Installing Windows 10 on a brand-new laptop these days is a complete waste of time for two reasons: ...

You're not the only one. Any excuse is a good excuse when it comes to messing around with such a ridiculous username.

@darkmason40 🙂 The Windows 10 activation key is already available, and you can grab the software for free directly from Microsoft's official website.
Let's be honest: installing an operating system can be a long, drawn-out process. It can even get a little stressful.
Look, we’re talking about installing Windows 10 OS here—not Windows XP. If someone were actually trying to install Windows XP, I'd tell them to think twice unless that OS is strictly necessary. But that isn't the case here.

Let’s talk central heating. Specifically, the dilemma of whether to invest in a wood stove, oil, or a heat pump.

Then there shouldn't be an issue...
But it's probably best if @fadedorca66 confirms that too.
How to install Windows 10 from Linux in IT Support ·
You can tell by whether Windows 10 was already pre-installed on the computer you bought. Essentially, if the disc was bundled with the hardware purchase and included in the price.

In your case, the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) would be Microsoft...

For example, if (hypothetically) Bosch used motors from GE in their appliances, then GE would be the Original Equipment Manufacturer—the "OEM" provider for those specific motors inside the Bosch units.

With that setup (a PC with a "factory" installed Windows OS), the serial number is valid only for that specific Windows OS installed on that exact machine.

(I'm not certain about the specifics, but that's generally how it works)

Check back in a day or two.
The videos or channels might have moderation turned on—meaning the creator manually picks which comments actually show up...
If that's the case, they probably aren't sitting there monitoring the feed 24/7 to approve everything instantly.

Alternatively, it could just be your sort settings—switching between 'newest,' 'oldest,' or 'top rated'...

Look, you aren't my only concern.

You can create extra partitions whenever you feel like it. The only actual requirement for making a new one—specifically,
'a new Local disk with a different drive letter'
HTML Code:
Local disk (C:) ... through to Local disk (Z:)

—is having enough space on the drive you intend to split into two, three, or more partitions.

As for installing the Windows 10 OS, this should be plenty to get you started. Take a look at the various 'offers' available and see which one is most intuitive to you visually and textually...
If you need a translation, instead of clicking the main link for any result, just click 'Translate this page'.

Take this page, for example, ?
How to install Windows 10 from Linux in IT Support ·
During installation, you'll have to choose one of these options:
- formatting the drive entirely
- creating a new partition (giving you two partitions total)
- installing onto the existing partition (in your case, the single partition on your drive /dual boot/)

Since you aren't interested in dual booting (using the same disk or partition), formatting is likely your smartest move.
Especially if there aren't any files on the laptop that you can't temporarily offload to a USB flash drive, or if you just don't need them...

If you do have files you want to keep using (opening, saving, etc.) within the Windows 10 environment:
