| No, quite the opposite. Thoughts become "masters" (don't take that literally!) the moment you get caught in a mental vortex—when you start obsessing over SOMETHING (it doesn't matter what: an object, an idea, anything at all). A master explained this perfectly in a previous post. Once that happens, the mind immediately launches into overdrive: analyzing, hunting for causes and effects, inventing purpose and utility, and within moments—boom—you've got a headache. As Karen Sanchez19 says: you can't fight thoughts with more thoughts. It’s actually a massive delusion if you stop to consider it. You think you're using thoughts to shut down thoughts, but really, it's just one giant, continuous thought. Besides, running an experiment is easy. Just relax and let the thoughts drift (again, don't be literal here; we aren't "letting go" of anything, it's all already flowing) and then try to engage in some specific ruminating about this or that. You'll notice the difference instantly. |
