Project: Find a Friend (Classifieds / Meetup Thread) in Psychology & Therapy ·
Hey. Just looking for some friendship. Ideally a girl to hang out with.
It would be nice to actually have things to talk about—you know, movies, music, people, animals, just life in general. 🙂 I’m not really an "out on the town" type, but I love a good laugh, if that’s not misleading you too much.
That’s pretty much it. I’m simple and laid back. Hit me up if this sounds like you, if you’re in Washington, D.C., and if you actually want to meet up in person instead of just endless texting.
Comcast says I need to upgrade my router in IT Support ·
Anyone else get a notice in the mail saying a new router is arriving in two weeks and I have to send my old one back to AT&T?
Does anyone actually know what's going on here? They didn't specify which model they're sending. I don't really see the point in swapping out hardware if my current setup isn't broken.
Where can I find some seriously, seriously good lemonade with tons of ice in NYC?
northernbadger1 said:Quick question: is it actually legal to toss packages around at the FedEx office?
A few days ago I was sending a package to a friend, the lady behind the counter printed my label, took my money, grabbed the box, and then just elegantly tossed it about two feet away into some bin where they presumably keep all the outgoing stuff..
I just stood there totally stunned, unable to even process what happened, let alone say anything..

Standard operating procedure.🤷 Just imagine how they handle things once they hit the actual transit trucks... which is exactly why you have to check the "fragile" box.😉
It’s funny how things work. One minute, a FedEx driver drops a package right at your doorstep, anyone in the house can sign for it, and you just take it without a second thought. Then, the moment a delivery notification hits your mailbox, suddenly you’re told you can’t pick it up at the local post office unless it’s addressed to your exact name—not just your last name, but your full legal name—unless you show up with a formal power of attorney. 😕
Why on earth would the clerk at FedEx ask me what's actually inside a standard package I'm sending over to the States?🤷 So, I just told her it was some clothes, and she gives me this look and basically tells me I could be lying to her face for all she knows.😕 Like, what is that even about??
redpilot37 said:Why am I getting hit with delivery fees in certain cities when the package I sent—which isn't due until the 18th—ended up costing me $25 instead of what I expected? Can't people just swing by the local post office to pick stuff up themselves? Every time I go, the clerk at the USPS counter charges me extra, claiming it’s just how the system is set up and the delivery fee is mandatory... meanwhile, I'm sitting here packing everything myself at home. So basically, $2.25when does this ever happen $3.25? why??? anyone know the deal. thanks

For cities that offer delivery, just make sure to specify that you want to pick it up at the post office. Otherwise, home delivery for a package under $33 2kg usually runs about $6.75 $20. Plus, the recipient gets stuck paying $1.75 $5 upon arrival at the door.
Olivia Garcia47 said:Can someone please help me out here... It's my first time shipping a package. I think I know the drill, but I'm wondering how much extra they charge if I just drop it off at the UPS Store and have them wrap it up in their packaging and stuff it with that bubble wrap stuff?

If nothing's changed since last time, it was probably around $1.75
Drew Parker8 said:I’ve got a question for the pros here. How do I ship a glass plate without it shattering? Should I use a box, or would those bubble mailers work? I'm guessing not, but maybe wrap it in something first?
Can I just use one of my own boxes instead of buying their specific ones? And what's the damage going to be cost-wise? Thanks!!

Use a box and pack it like a pro. Make sure there’s zero wiggle room so it doesn't rattle around inside. Just select the "fragile" option or add it as an extra service when you book. It should run you about $11. Hopefully, that helps.😉
Megan Bishop3 said:Yeah, that's what I ended up doing—shipping costs hit $6.25
and honestly, it feels like the smartest move.

Okay, but if we're talking $18.60, that was just a suggestion, not a set package deal. 🤷 Whatever, doesn't matter anymore, glad you figured it out. 😉

@daca2 you can definitely do that; everything you need to know is right there in your last few posts.
Alright, let's get this sorted for Megan Bishop3, Amanda Lopez52, and urbancobra12 🙂 just ship them as standard packages—specifically "insured shipments," according to the confirmation. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. They aren't going to grill you about what's actually inside; that's none of their business. Just a heads up: if that mascara starts rattling around because the box is too big, maybe throw some packing paper in there to fill the gaps. For anything under 2kg with a value of $33, USPS will charge you $6.00. Good luck, ladies 🙂
Megan Bishop3 said:So, what do you guys think? Looking for some advice here:

I'm just sending it via USPS as a certified package in one of those yellow bubble mailers.
I mean, we're talking about a massive amount of cosmetics here. Seriously.
Dealing with those heavy bottles—you know, the perfume, the shampoo, all that stuff...
Will they give me grief if it isn't in the box?
So, yeah... I don't own a single one. 🤷

It shouldn't give you any trouble. I’ve sent off similar stuff before—they were actually packed in little boxes back then, just to be safe. Not that they'd probably break or anything, but hey, why risk it? No point in being reckless if there isn't even much to lose.
Why aren't you just sending this as a standard package? Right now, it looks way too much like a registered letter. Especially if those bottles are heavy, shipping costs end up being a headache anyway. Plus, it’s just safer—you can actually pack them properly and make sure nothing breaks.
The only reason a recommendation like that actually works is if the buyer is too lazy—or maybe just too busy—to swing by the local USPS branch. Otherwise, what's the point?🤷 Just make sure you let them know there’s a chance he might not show up in one piece. Honestly, I’ve received empty envelopes like that before—those little blisters aren't exactly a big deal anyway.😉
If you think you're out of luck because you don't have any shipping boxes lying around, don't sweat it. You can just swing by the local USPS and grab some small ones for like three bucks. Simple enough. $1.25So, how much does that envelope actually come out to?🙂
Hannah Palmer6 said:My niece in Vienna wants to mail me a dress. It’s pretty light, maybe half a kilo or less. Does anyone have a rough idea of what the shipping should cost?

Under half a kilo $5.00 should be
fine.
Nicole Lee4 said:Once the package is scanned in, there’s a label on it showing the weight—it's also listed on the receipt.
If you're suspicious, just ask them to weigh it right then and there. If stuff is missing, the weight will show it.
Honestly, I'm not sure what else to tell you. There isn't much you can do at this stage; you have to act immediately.
But the girl who received it should go file a formal complaint. They are required to take the report. She probably won't get any compensation since she didn't flag it instantly, but maybe they'll catch the thieves who are clearly stealing from the shipments.

Again...🙂 I just had someone message me saying three items were missing!!! How are you even supposed to notice that? Packages arrive looking like they've been tossed around a dumpster; apparently, this keeps happening with people buying through Craigslist.🙄

@Chloe Moore65/">@@Chloe Moore65 how did you handle it? I sent her everything. So what now? What's the point of a complaint if there's no payout?😕 Yeah, sure, I'm sure they'll catch the bad guys...

So, when I ship something, should I state the weight (I don't even trust the labels anymore), and then tell the recipient to demand a re-weigh upon arrival? If it's lighter, does that automatically trigger a claim?
Got my delivery notice today saying the pickup window started on October 25th and I only had five days to grab it! 🙂 But get this—the notice says it was delivered on the 26th. Total nonsense. It claims it’s just a letter and doesn't even list a tracking number, but when I actually showed up at the USPS office, it turns out to be a full-on package. I ended up having to pay storage fees, $70 a day, so basically $1.25. How does a five-day window trigger storage fees? And don't they exclude weekends? Does the fee start on the 25th or what? 😕 Can someone tell me if this lady calculated the math right? 🤷 I have the receipt here.

I lost my cool a little, and they told me that if I really think a notice from the 25th didn't show up until November 3rd, I can verbally file a complaint with my local postmaster during the shift manager's hours. 🙄 It wasn't just one silly mistake, $1.00 more like four separate screw-ups by the post office. 🙂 And honestly, the only thing that complaint accomplishes—besides forcing me to drag myself back there tomorrow morning just to catch the manager—is potentially getting my supervisor to cover the fee $1.00 if they were late with the notification. 🤣

By the way, the package arrived in absolutely catastrophic shape. I actually have a witness who was standing right there with me when I picked it up. It was crushed, like someone decided to use it as a footstool; all the corners were smashed and it split open on at least two sides, with the contents practically spilling out. 😲 Luckily, everything inside stayed intact. Is that something worth complaining about too? I've got photos. 😉 I couldn't exactly pull a scene and demand the manager right when I received it.
This is the third time this month I've dealt with USPS issues. There were two other incidents, but I'd rather not even go there.☕
Donna Chase12 said:So, I swung by their office today and they told me they can actually look up package info since they keep copies on file. As for certified mail, though? Not much they can do there... just thought I'd share in case anyone else runs into this mess.

Melissa Morgan77, it’s only been a week for me, but I’m already prepping for the possibility that it doesn't show up within the two-week window. Honestly, the most interesting part would be if the package gets sent back to the sender. That's happened to me twice before when things didn't arrive—and the worst part was getting them returned with those labels saying "nobody showed up," even though the girls had checked with the USPS at least two or three times while waiting.😠

ugh 😢 I don't even know what to tell you.🤷 You mentioned it was a standard package and not certified mail, and I know you can still track those even if you lose the receipt.
As for the rest of what you wrote, I'm a little lost on the details, but if this keeps happening, you might as well file a complaint with the post office. Nothing to lose.
Donna Chase12 said:I need help, fast—is there any way to file a claim if I lost my receipt?
I have all the info and the shipping date, but the receipt basically vanished into thin air. The package hasn't reached the customer in over a week... I have all my other paperwork, and usually, everything arrives in a day or two. Just my luck, I guess.😢🙂

Just head back to where you dropped it off and give them those details. They should be able to pull up the tracking number since they keep their own records too. Hopefully, they still have it logged if it's been two weeks; after that, you can just start the formal claim process anyway. Good luck. 🙂
Another letter hasn't shown up yet. 🙂 Does the USPS actually return regular mail to the sender if it can't be delivered? If they do, it’s weird that it hasn't happened to me once. They just seem to vanish into the void indefinitely 😕...
Just one quick plea here: can we please make sure there are enough validation stamps for the recommendations? I mean... I swing by some days and they’re missing. I show up today, and it’s the same story. 🙂 I actually had to start a whole separate thread just to deal with this. 🙄 Honestly, I can't tell if the staff is just incredibly forgetful or if there's some weird supply chain issue happening behind the scenes. 😁 Either way, it's pretty ridiculous that they're out, considering I literally can't do my job without them. Like, hello? 😕
Olivia Green46 said:quick question: if I'm sending something to a P.O. Box address—usually just a standard letter—how does the billing work?
I checked the USPS price list, and there's this extra "Poste Restante" option listed, but I can't tell if that fee applies to the sender or the recipient.

Not entirely sure myself, so feel free to set me straight if I've got this wrong based on what I found in this thread... apparently the package sits there for 30 days and then the recipient pays $0.43.
