Look at the escape from Sobibor—that death camp. It was organized by Alexander (Sasa) Pecerski, who later became a Red Army officer and one of the greatest heroes of WW2. He survived the hell of multiple concentration camps before fighting in some of the most brutal battles against the Germans. Theoretically, prisoners didn't stand a chance against professionals armed with modern submachine guns who were herding them into chambers or lining them up against walls. But when you have competent leadership and experienced, motivated, battle-hardened fighters, you can pull off incredible things and hold your own against forces that vastly outnumber you.

To the Germans, Marshall and his comrades were simply unstoppable and impossible to pin down. ☕
