She clearly puts in the work, prepping intensely for every single role and giving it everything she's got. Plus, she collects rare books and reads poetry. 😍 And even MM became wonderful to me. 😍 Watching the Oscars today, I'm rooting for her, and once the DVD drops, I'll definitely be watching it all over again.

It finally started playing for me, and obviously, I had to dive in immediately since I've been waiting for this for a whole year. 😁 It’s such a solid film, and Michelle Williams is just brilliant—as per usual. She captured Marilyn Monroe perfectly in every single way, which doesn't surprise me given she spent weeks obsessing over her life and work. Michelle is incredible; an Academy Award nomination is practically a given at this point. Not to mention, the rest of the cast is top-tier.

He's just drifting, wandering through hotels, drinking, driving that black Ferrari of his in circles... it's pathetic. His daughter is really the only bright spot in his whole gray, mental wasteland; despite having a superstar for a dad, she actually stayed grounded. 👍 I loved that part. 😍 And I liked that he finally just gave up and admitted to himself that he's a total loser. But still, the whole thing just felt... ugh, I don't know... 😁 But whatever, it is what it is. I still love SC, and I think the movie is worth a watch.

I mean, I absolutely adore "Lost in Translation," and I hold "Marie Antoinette" in such high regard too. For some reason, I missed them in theaters, so I had to catch up. But, but... 🤦 what happened, Sofia? Look, the movie is fine—it isn't bad—but it’s nowhere near as good as her previous stuff, especially LIT. A bunch of people have already written exactly what I’m thinking. The story feels pretty shallow, and the main guy, Johnny, along with his daughter, are just... surface-level. I get it, we all know Johnny is a total loser who's completely failing at life and that his daughter is basically running circles around him in every way. But seriously, couldn't Sofia have handled that better? I’m honestly so disappointed. 😢 Don't get me wrong, I loved the scenes in the Ferrari and that drive down Sunset Blvd (mostly just for my own sentimental reasons, I guess). And the soundtrack? Yeah, it works; it has that typical stillness she does so well. But is that really it? And the ending was just stupid. Like, WTF? Such a massive cliché. 🤦 All he was missing was a cigarette hanging out of his mouth. You know, the ultimate symbol of a new life (which, in my book, starts right before you cook your first real meal in life).
Overall, it's worth a watch, but that's about it. Sadly.

First off, when the news broke that we were getting her as a mod, most of us hadn't even heard of her. We don't sit around watching cable news all day, and she wasn't exactly a household name here either. Of course people are going to be confused about who she even is. I mean, if I suddenly became a moderator for Formula 1 without ever having watched a single race, 😁 you can bet they'd be looking at me like, "Who is this person and what are they even doing here?" 😁 And then there's this whole thing about her being part of the Diaspora. Honestly, that's the least of anyone's concerns if they actually have half a brain. It shouldn't matter where she lives. It's like how people talk about what folks living outside the US are posting on political forums—I know plenty of people doing exactly that. If anything, having a mod based in Washington, D.C. is an advantage because they can actually compare notes on what's happening back in the home country. Even the fact that she took a few days to introduce herself isn't a big deal. The real issue is that she came in swinging from day one, already throwing around threats of bans and warnings on the very first thread. I remember it clearly. Someone makes a joke, she snaps back and threatens them with a ban. That was the pattern—I didn't follow every single thread, but... yeah, she managed to rub people the wrong way right out of the gate. I don't know if that's just her general vibe or if it was just limited to that specific PDF. Because Skattemus is actually a perfectly normal, likable woman whom we've all known for ages, both from that PDF and others. And look, she's fine; no complaints there. She handles things, sends PMs to tell people to chill out, hands out warnings, etc...
And seriously, the Diaspora is such a diverse group on that PDF. We've got people from every corner of the globe—young kids, old-timers, people just starting out, and people with decades of life experience under their belts who have lived on multiple continents... wherever else could you find that? The Diaspora isn't just some niche group worrying about how to get a work permit in, say, Canada. You guys have no idea how much goes into managing a community like that...
Look, don't start with me about Steven Ruiz. 🙂 He’s not my best friend, or some VIP in my life, but let's be real here. When she was running things—especially right at the beginning, and even after—that PDF was great. All these clones that have popped up in the last two or three years, and the people who’ve totally crossed the line? That's not on her. In all these years, I haven't noticed any arrogance or that "talking down to people" vibe from her side.
My suggestions: 1. The current mod, ambermason16, needs to "normalize." By that, I mean stop this hyper-analytical obsession—which includes constantly closing threads, moving stuff around, deleting posts, and so on... (and look, I'm not saying offensive or off-topic stuff shouldn't be deleted), and just normalize how she talks to everyone. 🙂
2. If point number one isn't possible, then ambermason16 should hand over the reins to someone else who actually cares about this PDF, someone who will carry on the legacy of the previous mods who did a decent job. 🙂
3. This goes for all of us: stop making clones (yeah, I'm talking to those of you who spend your spare time doing this), stop fueling arguments, stop picking on the "newbies," stop mocking the unlucky souls who come here asking questions, stop being every kind of annoying person imaginable, stop trashing everything American, and just ignore the "know-it-alls"—let them just babble to themselves, etc...
